the mental image of Tulkas coming down to Arda with a booming laugh is so epic I wish I could see it on screen
We need him defeating Morgoth in movies
The problem is that probably someone would ruin that scene...
The delight of Tulkas’ laughter is liken to the tolling of bells for the death of evil.
I dunno, I'm good with it being put on screen, but I hope some one little known with great talent like Jackson had before he was famous gets a hold of it. I'm tired of the WOKE stuff and the rubber stamped movies that are all the same. Let's shake things up abit...
I heard that Peter Jackson and Warner are teaming up again to adapt other parts of the lore, so it might be possible
Tulkas is my favourite. He's so jolly, joyful, and amiable, but also SO ready to throw down when it comes to it!
A simple character but never fails to make me smile
Why does he remind me of the ghost of Christmas present
Tulkas is the best! Even though he is said not to be the brightest of the Valar, him and Ulmo were the only ones who actually were smart enough not to want to release Melkor
It’s not about intelligence though, it’s about comprehension. Even evil may deserve a second chance, but even if Manwë understood evil, they wouldn’t be able to realize that Melkor was beyond redemption and such things.
And people wonder why Faenor wouldn't give up the silmirills. The Valar failed to protect the single most important objects in Arda right in their backyard twice. What confidence would there be in them not screwing up a third time
@@ryansauchuk7290 The Valar aren’t stupid. We’re not reading the same book if you think that. They wanted to revive the Two Trees with their light contained in the Silmarils. The point wasn’t that the Valar failed, but rather Fëanor was too selfish and obsessed with his accomplishment to put aside his pride for a bigger act. The Silmarils were no small accomplishment, nobody is denying that, but it’s more important to return light to the world for Morgoth to hide from. So much darkness and death would have been avoided if Fëanor let the jewels go. Instead, he dragged his sons into senseless slaughter against his own kin, gave into vengeance and hate, damned his own house to distrust for centuries, died a miserable and angry Elf who’d rather curse Morgoth’s name than speak to his own children in his last moments and his soul was sent to sleep in the Halls of Mandos until the ending of the world. Afterwords, his children would too die miserable and his remaining two sons would be given but burned by the very Silmarils their own father created due to their evil deeds, leaving one to cast himself into fire while the other walk the shores in regret and sorrow for time unknown after throwing and thus losing his Silmaril into the sea.
If somebody fails, it’s not inherently because they’re incompetent, it’s simply because the other guy won that day or was just that good.
@@teleportedbreadfor3daysI agree
@@teleportedbreadfor3days didn't one of his sons stay behind after the first kinslaying or was tgat his grandson?
Fists of Tulkas is a secret weapon in Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. Wonderful to hear the inspiration for these weapons!
One of my favorites weapons in that game
Oh cool!!! I didn’t know that! I love Castlevania!
I love how Tulkas laughs as he chases Melkor
IKR!
My fav is Ulmo...he sticks around and helps out kinda secretly. I often thought that he protected the Hobbits with the Brandywine River, helping to build a shield against unwanted foes...until Sharky came!
I like this Theory
I love the part where Tulkas face-slams Morgoth and chains him with no issue
Fr I mean melkor litrally ran when tolkas came down for the first war, so that speaks volume for his power
Ledengarium curb stomp
Super Easy. Barely an inconvenience!
Such a badass character. Exactly the type of the character traits and description that I love!!! Melkor may of been the most powerful in terms of overall ability that gradually weakened himself from corrupting and spreading his influence across the world, but you gotta give mad respect to the one Vala unhesitant to engage him, capable of apprehending him 1 on 1 as well as causing Melkor's initial retreat once he descended into Arda
I just have this image of Tulkas defeating Melkor at the very end with just one tremendous punch.
I figure it would be a powerbomb of epic proportions with Tulkas being a wrestler and all...
Tulkas…PAUNCH!!!
@@archlectoryarvi2873 Suplexing Morgoth in the middle of Dagor Dagorath sure would be something.
Give that honor to fingolfin
I dont think their last fight will be that simple, melkor lost alot of his power corrupting the world but by Armageddon its alluded he will have gained all his power back so if the "melkor is the most powerful valar" thing holds true then tulkas could actually lose or just not win like he normally would
I'm always amazed by this world. What a great story telling!
To think that Tulkas getting drunk and falling asleep is what caused the lamps to be destroyed is actually hilarious
Which proves just how much the Valar sucked at well pretty much everything
@@ryansauchuk7290 well it was their fate eru did say that all that is bad will only prove but his instrument in the divesing of things more wonderful
@@Darkgeran7 meaning that he had to literally write fate in order to compensate for their uselessness
@@ryansauchuk7290 You do realize that they basically made the world, right? After the music, Arda was pretty much a blank canvas for them to do what they would with it. I'm not saying they couldn't have done a better job handling Morgoth and Sauron, but hey, let's see YOU single-handedly invent the concept of rain.
@@ryansauchuk7290 Mommy and Daddy issues, eh?
Tulkas: We gonna wrassle!
Melkor: oh no
Heck yeah, it's Tulkas! I'm glad you showed the part where Aulë kinda chastises him for being insistent on Fëanor. I love their contrast: both impatient, but one a highly skilled and knowledgeable craftsman, and the other a friendly and supportive incarnation of indomitable strength
I loved it too, but it could be that Aule also was on the verge of falling with the creation of dwarves in secret.
Tulkas, my favorit of Tolkiens many great characters. Great vid! Thx!
I always gives kudos to this channel for bringing light to the art used in their videos. Thank you for that!
Morgoth: I fear no man but that thing....*Looks around for Tulkas* It scares me.
Melkor: He's laughing there... MENACINGLY!!!!
He feared Varda above all others Eru made.
One of your best Valar videos.❤ Loved it.
This videos on Tolkien's world is awesome. We always appreciate your hard work and dedication towards these videos. So we love and appreciate your hard work and dedication towards these videos.
THANK YOU for NOT using that overused illustration of Tulkas balling up his fists that's used in EVERY LOTR video over and over.
Ah yes. Tulkas, as Yoysten would call him, the "Vala of bodybuilding." 😂
This guy was so mighty not even Melkor would challenge him!
Funny enough, a weapon in Castlevania Symphony of the Night is called The Fist of Tulkas, explained as having been blessed by Tulkas the Valar.
One of the game and weapon designers was an obvious Tolkien fan.
How did they get away with that given the Tolkien Estate?
@@concept5631 Probably no one really noticed or cared all that much.
Tulkas..and even more Ulmo...always..even when I was a young reader..struck me as the rational two of the Valar. Tulkas loathed Melkor...Ulmo never, ever gave up on Middle earth..his waters told him what happened there. And both stood in that place where they had to ask of their kin..."guys? Are we actually going to do something or what?"
The Valar truly excel at procrastination.
Thank you so much nerd of the rings.Tulkas is my favourite valar. A you have a thrully gift of speech. Its an honor to listen this episode.
Tulkas = Gigachad of the Valar 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Incredible channel, keep it up man!
Tolkiens god of punching has always been one of my favorites. Didn't even bother to come to Arda until there was something to punch. I'd have a beer with him.
It sounds like Tulkas takes direct inspiration from Beowulf, who’s description he matches, and how he fought Grendel without armor or a weapon.
Man the art is gorgeous!
Please keep these coming my guy!!
I have been waiting for this video ever since I found your channel. Thank you.
The thing i love about Tulkas and Beorn is that we've probably all met the people like them. Huge, Jovial, kind, not to be messed with!
Of all the Valar, Tulkas is probably my favorite.
the warcraft music is such a good touch!
It was your vid’s on the Valar that got me hooked onto the channel and really the entire LOTR universe beyond what’s in the third age books and films, so anything on the Valar instantly has my attention.
Tulkas I feel can easily be overshadowed by the others because of how he’s not as integral to the shaping and forming of Arda and Ea compared to the likes of Manwe, Varda, Yavanna, Aule, etc. However I feel that there’s just something refreshing with Tulkas. He’s the strongman of the group that is just so jolly and loving of being that strongman. I can imagine him being the more boisterous warrior compared to the serious-minded Orome.
Tulkas also is married to Nessa and like Yavanna/Aule I’m imagining Tulkas and Nessa to be quite the pair despite their differences.
#ShawStrength 😁👍
The best channel, keep going.
Definitely my favorite of all the valar.
For a brief period of time, while reading the Silmarillion, I had a hypothesis that Tulkas and Bombadil had some kind of connection.
Continue your good work
Thank you so much!!
Long awaited and finally my favorite Valar got his video ❤️
Another great story by the one and only Tolkien with the help of your incredible story-telling :)
I'm generally more drawn to the Valar of wisdom, depth, and sight. But Tulkas...I'm really glad you're on our side.
I always loved Tulkas. I thought he displayed the best qualities of men, laughter and strength.
Whenever I describe Tulkas to friends who haven’t read the Silmirilian I say: “Imagine if you combined All Might with Might Guy and then made him a god”
That just makes me want to see what Tulkas could do if he started to open his inner gates. Morgoth better learn fusion!
Might Guy and Rock Lee are the ultimate Sigmas :D And funny enough I also thought Mighto Gai ^^
Thanks for making better content than Amazon does.
TULKAS: Speak, yea or nay!
FEANOR: Hmp!
The fact that it was a full on battle with the Valar and Melkor straight leaves the galaxy as soon as he hears Tulkas' booming laughter. Straight fear to leave the planet. No combat. He’s like the hulk no steed. No weapon. Just beat your ASS then laugh.
Tolkien: "And then there's a Valar who's an uber badass, maybe not very bright but he'd crush anyone besides Eru and..."
Me: "Okay professor, this is starting to sound a little wish fulfilment-ish. Like if you were a Valar and your brains were replaced with physical might."
Tolkien: "Certainly not!"
Me: "Alright, what's his name."
Tolkien: "...Tulkas."
Great video.
Was wondering if a video on the wainriders can come out.
Yesterday I was like why doesn’t Nerd of t Rings have a vid on Tulkas?? An here it is today)
Day 4 of asking for ranking top 100 lotr characters
At some point, we've all pictured Tulkas looking like Hulk Hogan. Don't lie you did too and if you hadn't before you are now.
Please make a maps of middle earth video covering the geography of Valinor and middle earth before the first age
Tyson: "Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth."
Tolkas: "Yes! Exactly!"
I like how Tulkas is so excited to fight Morgoth. Dude is like "Ugh, whatever. Talk, talk, talk...wait did you say Morgoth is near? Eff yeah, time to fight!!!
Great video mate, always been such a huge fan of the movies, I'm now about to finish the fellowship book and getting obsessed with the wider works of Tolkien. Is the silmarillion a hard read?
Been wanting this one bad.
Rings of power is one of Melkor's discourse to the song.
There is a lack of a thunderer in Tolkien's legendarium, but if there were, Tulkas would be the best candidate. He is the embodiment of energy. He is strong, swift and bright, like lightning. He also speaks with a booming voice, like thunder. If there was an animated movie on the Silmarillion, he would be voiced by BRIAN BLESSED! I associate him with Thor and Jupiter. In Latin, another name for Jupiter is Jove, which gave us the adjective "jovial". So I wouldn't be surprised to learn that his part in Arda's creation were thunder and lightning, even though he is never shown using them in combat.
If all the Valar who descended into Arda became bound to it, how could Melkor leave? Wasn't he also a Valar that was bound to Arda?
NotR was unclear in his narration
All the Valar and Maiar who descend into Ea (The Universe) are bound to it. Arda (The Earth) is in Ea, not synonymous with it. The Valar and Maiar could leave Arda and travel Ea at will (though as only Arda has life they rarely do) but they can never leave Ea. Melkor left Arda and retreated into the farthest depths of Ea.
Hope that helps
06:20
Melkor: "I never really was on your side!"
Tulkas: "Now is coward killing time!"
I see references to Greek and Norse mythology with the Valar's war against Melkor (Olympian's vs. Titans ) and Melkor's chaining (Norse, chaining of Loki)
The description of Tulkas fits how Neil Gaiman portays Destruction in the Sandman
Tulkas, the Brian Blessed of the Valar.
Fionwe is the early version of the name of Maya who fights against Melkor at Dagor Dagorath. His canonical name is Eönwë.
Thanks, I wasn t sure if they were the same.
The OG WWE of Tolkien. He gone body slam Morgoth back into Angbad.
Whatcha gone do when Tulkas runs wild on u? BROTHER!
That makes me see Tulkas next to Mean Gene talking about how cream always rises to the top.
He hit bro with a batista bomb lmaoo
@@W47689 the Silmarils r Morgoth's bling like Rick Flair.
I hope they come with a movie of this part of the history
“You can always get these hands morgoth” Tulkas
BUFF NERD APPROVED
What I can’t figure out is that in the beginning of this Tulkas’s laugh can dispel any darkness or cloudy weather right? So how did he get blinded the spider? Like he should’ve been able to laugh it away right?
exactly the question that came to my mind as well!
Plot holes occasionally happen :/
Also ungoliant was the absence of all light and was there before middle earth and creation she is the darkness that creeps.
Love the Thumbnail Godly looking❤
5:00 the need to make this a movie my god would it be insane 😮
Where did malcore go out side theknow world ,
An how did the vailare come to Imagine beasts , trees without knowing what they look like so he must've had some form of idea of what he wanted to heaven middle earth and Valor
Tulkas being stronger than melkor is definitely a misconception, melkor was weakened when tulkas overpowered him.
When you heard this man laughing before entering a battle you know Melkor and company were screwed
And yet, Ungoliant left him swatting at air and unable to stop her from escaping with Melkor and the Silmarils.
All the character designs remind me of Magni from GoW and of Tsun from the Skyrim.
I will always stan that Tulkas is stronger than Melkor. Melkor might be the "strongest" in his magic and voice, but Tulkas kicks his ass in hand to hand combat twice, and was never once afraid of him.
I think Melkor would beat Tulkas ultimately in a fight but it would be so hard and painful for him (because Tulkas would never surrender or flee) that he just runs away instead.
My favorite Valar 💪
Im irish and Tulkas sounds very similar to The Dagda, one of the Tuatha de danann he was a jovial strong god
I can only imagine chris hemsworth playing tulkas
I will never understand why the Valar went to war to protect the elves but it was fine to let mankind suffer to punish a few naughty elves... (the elves awaken, we have to save them... man awaken, doesnt matter the elves defied us)
Mankind was Ilúvatar’s special child, despite the fact that we were not blessed with the abilities of the Elves or the resistance of the Dwarves. The Valar were probably more restricted In intervention with humanity than it was with the Elves, which was already pretty strict
@@randomelite4562 like what? There is nothing in his writing supporting this...
@@Lodrik18 Except, y’k, we aren’t bound to Arda like the Elves or Dwarves are? When we die we don’t stick around to fade away like those elves who never returned to Valinor, we go somewhere beyond, Tolkien was a catholic and the Gift of Men is very much similar to a great beyond, a heaven after death
If somebody asks you: " Who is your favorite Vala?" The right answer is Manwe. He hears the voice of Eru, the creator of all. But if some unholy force attacks you and you need help - call for Tulkas. You will not regret it.
p.s. My favorite Vala is Tulkas. I just like Manwe so much that I should have mentiones him.
Around 6:30 you mention that Tulkas was furious every time he saw Melkor go by. What does this mean? Where is he casually seeing Melkor?
This would be after Melkor was pardoned after his imprisonment. (Before he steals the silmarils.)
It's all fun and games until Tulkas shows up 😅
Imagine say tulkas name Infront of Melkor during interrogation by Melkor
he heard there was battle in the LITTLE Kingdom...
Imagine Tulkas doing a Stone Cold Stunner on Melkor 😅
What if he's Tom Bombadil? lol. Think about it. Morgoth is sent into the void and there are no more challenges for him, so he retires until Morgoth's return. It would explain why the One Ring has no effect on Tom (Tulkas). I'm kidding, but there is some logic behind that.
Oh, so he is a god that just throws hands?
*Zangief flexes in respect*
I realize, watching this, that if the Valar had listened to Tulkas, a lot of trouble would have been avoided.
The funny thing is "ie" is sometimes pronounced "a" in some nordic languages, same with "u" and "o". So if you squint Tolkien and Tulkas are the same name.
a very unique comment and i love it ❤️
Eru Ilúvatar : I create Melkor as the mightiest of Valar. I aslo create Tulkas as Chuck Norris of Valar !!!
Good Video
You should do a video on the goblin king from the hobbit!
"Faenor would refuse the request of the Valar and Middle-earth would be plunged into centuries of war with the dark lord." Jerk Elf!
Tulkas sure looks a lot like a certain Australian actor playing a certain Norse god comic book character. 😂
I thought it was two trees ? Not lamps.
Never mind lol 😅 but okay I thought it was morgoth. Does melkor become morgoth? I'm so confused and I thought i understood completely. I think I watched a video explaining these things but I can't remember, can someone clarify please.
