- Candlebox have made the difficult decision to release their final studio album, The Long Goodbye.
The new 10-track collection is ultimately a statement album, a document of a band that somehow survived an era that tragically proved too seductive for some of their peers to remain successful but relevant. The lead single, "Punks," is a cautionary message to young bands that they won't be the hot new thing forever. "What Do You Need" charges forward with a slashing guitar riff and rapid-fire drums, while "Elegante" delivers a moody, atmospheric vibe with Kevin diving headlong into creative wordplay, and the band mimics a synth-pop vibe with guitars and drums.
Kevin Martin [lead vocals], Adam Kury [bass], Brian Quinn [guitar], Island Styles [guitar], and BJ Kerwin [drums] are saying goodbye to their friends and fans as they are currently wrapping up a Farwell tour to celebrate their illustrious 30-year career.
I had the pleasure of speaking with Kevin about the importance of releasing this album, the hard decisions to say farewell, what retirement holds, the search to find his love of music, the reason he consistently expends extreme efforts to seek the ultimate expression in his songs, how there will never be another Candlebox album and his thoughts if Grunge movement killed 80s glam and hard rock. Great interview! I'm gonna miss Candlebox! I've been following them for 30 years and it's sad to see them go BUT I am very thankful for the 30 years of amazing music that will go on forever. And I'm really happy for them to move on to new adventures in their lives....of course wish them ALL THE BEST IN THE WORLD!!! THANK YOU!!!!
Not that my list matters, but out of the 700 bands that I have in my itunes account. Candlebox is in my top 10 list and that's where it will stay. Thank you Kevin for your killer voice and creative soul.
Funny that "Into The Sun" is my favorite and made me a much bigger supporter. I had the first two but the heavier but melodic edge of "Into The Sun" was incredible.
Such a great album.
Wow. What an interview. Been a fan since 1993 cassette. Still have it. Still listen to it. Then last Friday I saw them for the first time opening for 3 Doors Down. SO SO THANKFUL TO BE THERE.
Out of all the grunge bands, Candlebox was always my favorite. I wish they would do a headline tour for this last album before they piece out, but I get it. Live your life my dudes. Thanks for the memories.
Really great interview
That’s funny he said that about Into The Sun because that is 100% my 2nd favorite Candlebox record.
I miss hearing Bardi.
Wait a second did Kevin say he was going to do one reunion concert in Seattle next year with all the old members? If so why wouldn't they record it? Anyway. I can totally respect Kevin's choice. If the love for music isn't same. Why force it?
Thank You Candlebox for all the years and great music you gave us. You Will Be Missed! But I am hoping for the Never Say Never album.
Why are they stopping? I hope it's not for health reasons.
Kevin just wants to do other things.
To spend more time with his son
@@desolategrey he also said in an interview on the band's Instagram account that making music was no longer fun.
They are back on tour seeing them in a week! Playing with Bush and Cantrell
