    The purpose of life is what you are doing right now. You stand, you sit down. Already. You have fulfilled your life's purpose.
    This is incredibly true and simple and incredibly difficult to comprehend.I love that old films Katie Byron.

    29:41-30:56 - " *Who would you be at your husband's funeral without these thoughts; when he did this inappropriate thing?. . . I wouldn't have been mad at him. Maybe I could have even had compassion for him. . . .He shouldn't have done that. Turn it around. . . .He should have done that? Yes. Because he did. . . .It doesn't condone it. It doesn't excuse it. But, that's the way of it. That's the way of the world. We can do war with it or we can understand it from here(Katie points to her head). And, I hear you say you would be more compassionate and I don't know a higher teacher.* " Thank you for uploading Brian Cormack Carr.

      And our blind belief in our thoughts without questioning and our resistance to even look at them and "for there".
      In a way they aren't even our thoughts, they are the collective thoughts of humanity. They just arise spontaneously and we believe them and make them personal.

    Hello, im new to the work and i would like to ask is it necessary to always judge other people? Lets say my issue is that i feel very uncomfortable in front of other people i dont have friends even though i would like to have and there is resistance
    to me to be open and talk to people. I also have trust issues and often i feel attack from others but i think its just my thinking..how could i do the work on these things ?
    Greetings from Greece and thank you!

    • @BrianCormackCarr
      @BrianCormackCarr  2 года назад +1

      Hi Georgia - Katie advises to start by doing The Work on other people and situations first, because this is the way we learn about ourselves. However, we CAN do The Work on our own issues. This takes a bit more skill and attention, but it can be done.

    Maybe some ppl want to stay away from the bullying. Nothing wrong with that. Unless bullies help you to know yourself better and all the rest ...... . Understanding all from the mind vs going to war with the world - sounds great. We see ppl going to the war against the world every day on the news. They should try this work sometimes 👍

    A question for Brian or some viewer who does the work. When I work with the question that asks what I want, my answer will be something like "I want them to be nicer to me." Well, this is true. I DO want them to be nicer to me. Or, should I work only with the second half of my answer, they should be nicer to me. Then my answer to the first question can be yes or no.

    • @BrianCormackCarr
      @BrianCormackCarr  5 лет назад +9

      This is a great question, and it touches on an area where The Work can become quite nuanced. So, let’s say you’re working with “I want them to be nicer to me”. First of all, it’s perfectly acceptable to answer “YES!” to the first question, “Is it true?”
      Then, when you get to the turnaround, you might have “I don’t want them to be nicer to me”, and the task is to find genuine examples of why this turned-around thought might be as true or truer than the original. In other words, why might you NOT want this person to be nicer to you? Here’s what springs to my mind:
      - Maybe they’re not able to be nicer in this moment. Maybe - given everything they’re dealing with - they’re being as nice as they can manage. As a compassionate human being, I don’t want someone to be forced beyond their own capabilities.
      - I don’t want a ‘not nice’ person to be nice to me; after all, if they were, what would that get me? Maybe I wouldn’t believe or trust them...
      - I can’t know for sure that their being nice to me would be for my highest good. Maybe I ‘need’ them to be harsh with me to prompt me to see something I’ve missed.
      Those are just examples. The Work is about sitting with the questions and contemplating. There isn’t a “right” answer.

      Brian Cormack Carr Wow, Brian. What a wonderful answer! It includes most everything in the book, but I guess that I needed clarification. I needed you to point to the book and say see, it was here all along! Thank you again. 👽

    • @BrianCormackCarr
      @BrianCormackCarr  5 лет назад +2

      You're very welcome! The Work is a process, and it isn't always easy to 'get' it all at once. It takes time. I'm still making discoveries!

    • @UkeGirl100
      @UkeGirl100 5 лет назад +1

      Brian Cormack Carr I have a new question, Brian. Well, in reading her book, I have had the impression that no is the only right answer. You cannot say yes. It is always wrong. That is why I asked this question of you initially, I was thinking boy, is it really wrong? Is that what I need to learn when I do the work? That all questions, they are always no. The first answer should always always be no and under no circumstances is it ever yes. Or, is it OK for it to be right as you say, and I don’t need to try to push and force myself to recognize and understand that it is wrong.

    • @BrianCormackCarr
      @BrianCormackCarr  5 лет назад +1

      I love your thoughtful questions!
      What Katie has often said is “the answer to the first question is one syllable: Yes or No”. She’s also said that, for her, “no thought is true”.
      If no thought is true, the answer to the first question must always be “no”, right?
      Well, Katie often reminds us that the answer we are seeking is always the answer that’s authentic for us, and sometimes that means that the answer to the first question will be a resounding “YES!”
      That’s the beauty of The Work. We just have to answer each question authentically from where we are in the moment, and just keep working through the process. Even if the answer to the first question, “Is it true?” is “Yes”, we have an opportunity to look at it again with the second question, “Can you absolutely know that it’s true?” I’ve seen (and felt) many certainties fall before that second question; but I’ve also seen (and felt) many authentic answers which were *still* “Yes!”
      That’s fine; we just keep going. We consider what happens when we believe the thought (Question 3). We consider who or what we’d be without it (Question 4) - and notice, we can do this even if we still believe the thought! Then we turn it around and find genuine examples - and we can still do that even if our answers to Questions 1 & 2 were “YES, YES, YEEEESSSS!”
      In other words, don’t get stuck on the first two questions. If your answer is yes, keep moving. Once you’ve been through the rest of the process, you may find that The Work has still been working you. 💗

    10:40 Someone says smth to us and we believe it cuz it BRINGS smth to us. We think some kind of security (in belief)
    No one can IMPOSE their belief on us. Only share their thoughts on us
    11:40 She says she's like you
    You're actually just like the her YOU THINK she is
    12:13 Can you find truth in what someone says? If yes, and they tell you say: awesome! Now THEY know what you know

    I didn't get the refrigerator part. Could you please explain to me, Brian?

    • @BrianCormackCarr
      @BrianCormackCarr  5 лет назад +9

      Yes, she's pointing out that when we're believing our stressful thoughts, this can be when our addictions kick in (like going to the refrigerator to eat more food than we need). The addictive behaviour covers up our uncomfortable feelings; if we deal with the thoughts prior to the feelings, the addictions are more likely to let go of us.

    5:09 ...sth dawned on me here about the story of hurting s.b.: the truth here is that your afraid of losing his approval and his support etc... I'm in a similar situation where I promised to be sexually faithful to s.o. and not "betray" him, but the real thing is that I'm afraid of losing his approval... I did tell him to let it up to me to decide, but he insisted... I'm still in for having this conversation... because if not, I'm betraying myself... big wake up call, thank you...

    • @manuelak.700
      @manuelak.700 4 года назад +15

      Hello dear Carolle, I can totally see how it could be understood that way!
      Yet, I see it somewhat differently. Are you open to hear another view? :-)
      As I understand the Work, it's not about making violence a joke or acceptable; it's not about becoming passive and smiling at everything. The Work is rather about freeing ourselves from any thought patterns that block or weaken us - so that we can freely choose how to deal with any situation in the best possible way.
      With some practice, I believe we can even free ourselves from thoughts about people that did (or do) violence... thoughts which continue the war and violence instead of stopping it: "Those people are evil; they are unfit to live; they should be punished..." etc etc.
      Letting go of those thoughts doesn't justify or excuse the violent acts.
      But using the Work, we can free ourselves - so that we are free to act consciously and powerfully and with compassion for ourselves and others.
      Does that make sense? What do you think?
      Best wishes!
