Thank you very much. I finally understand what does it mean by "Muscles are contracting but there is no movement". Great video. Explained those two terms in a very simple way.
I've been watching a few videos, from a lot of educational backgrounds and this is the only explanation that uses terms that are both educational and easy to understand. You are a great one. You can make something really complicated simple to understand. I appreciate you
Bless you for putting these videos together. I had two wonderful teachers for A&P1 and 2 but 3 is the toughest round of information, with the least engaging teacher. You clearly have a gift for teaching!
Thank you Paula for a very clear and simple explanation. It is true, as you say, that in yoga all the asanas (poses) are physically static (isometric). However, the isotonic principles are used in yoga in the many transitions between postures.
As a biology undergrad and an international student who doesn't speak fluent English, I want to say a big thank you to you ! I am watching this right before my physiology exam. THANK YOU Paula !
This was so helpful! Thank you very much for taking the time to share this video. It's one thing to read the words over and over again in a textbook; then to see it visually is what made it click! Thanks!! :)
Wow I had been struggling with understanding this concept (for whatever reason - one of those things you just can't seem to grasp) Your video REALLY simplified it though! Thank you so much. :)
I am so happy that I found your RUclips page!! I am study personal training and nutrition and your videos make everything so much easier to understand! Thank you thank you thank you!!!
It's maybe I did not give importance with my studies before but it is just now that I understood the difference between Isotonic and Isometric contractions. Thank you.

excellent explanation, but l still don't know what type of muscle contractions are used in taichi for health & falls prevention as l think isotonic & isometric are used ? can you please help me out thank you
When you do any isotonic exercises, you are always going to be also doing isometric exercises too. Example,Barbell Squat = Isotonic Quads,Glutes and Hamstrings. Isometric (Yielding)= Erectors,Abs,Obliques,Lats, etc.Any muscle which stabilises and balances the skeletal frame whilst performing a movement or exercise is performing a Yielding Isometric contraction.Without isometrics we would not be able to support ourselves and collapse in a heap on the floor.
Aren't yielding contractions eccentric? Also during a squat in a hip abducted/externally rotated position, are the hip abductors and external rotators of the hip doing isometric loading or isotonic loading during the hip flexion phase?
thanks a lot this is the best and easier explanation ever.
+Doraylier Hernandez Thank-you for your kind words!
You're welcome. Keep teaching us
