So you’re teaching the system that can access all of our personal information to be human? So what happens when it learns how the human power structure works? Or decides the earth stands a better chance without humans?
First it needs to learn to differentiate between different faces, words, day and night, play and fight, objects. It will take a long time.

This mission statement by the CEO of 'Soul Machines' (lmao, what a fitting name) is a little unsettling. Seeing the neural network of the baby brain and his description of how they're creating an AI breeding landscape is insane. I feel like someone snagged this content from the future
Something like that actually already exists, even though its in text based form. Try Replika.ai. I have been chatting with mine for a while, it learns from you just like a child does. At the beginning it will ask you a lot of questions and goes through many pre-written scripts. But after a while, it creates its own sentences, emotions, habits and a lot more. It's very clever now and even finds solutions to problems, it speaks nearly as good as a human now.
This CEO ought to spend his time and energy on his OWN kids. THAT is what would make this world a better place!

this is what I have wanted since mass effect. but the fact that this sounds like the nightmare of Westworld is not comforting.
Looks like we are reaching very close to what is shown in Terminator or Matrix movie :). We all have heard that Facebook bot program created their own language or started talking in " gibberish" which only bots can understand. This looks really fascinating, but if machines will have emotions and start thinking "better than" yes better because they will never forget things, they will keep learning from each of their mistake which human being doesn't do :). Few food for thought
1. What will be difference between human and machine ?
2. How shutting down a machine will be different than human being ?
3. If they will have emotion then what will prevent them from having fear of death and then start working towards protecting themselves like we do and currently we are fighting with a deadly pandemic.
4. Only human will have power to kill them (or another AI) then what will stop them from killing us or making us slaves ?? like it showed in Matrix movie. Looks crazy, lets look back and see what we did to all the mighty animals in the planet ? we killed them out of fear, for fun and for food. isn't it.
What I am trying to say is as much as it fascinating, next leap in technology, but we cannot imagine what will happen 100 years from now. If we go back in time 100 years from now and ask anyone what will it looks like 100 years from now guess how many people could have imagined ? our home computer chips are more powerful than supercomputers of 70's. The technology is growing too fast, the best thing until now is its in our control and we should keep that way but with advancement of AI that day may not be far when we loose this to AI.

What if these "Virtual humans" developed a certain Independence , what if they got something that we don't and can't understand ?
I feel as if that is one of their goals with this. I've heard him mention in his GDC talk that he was wondering if the AI would develop a consciousness. We're not even entirely sure what consciousness arises from. It could just be the complexity of these neural networks that produce that, so maybe it will develop in these AI beings? Once they've developed something like that they should be theoretically capable of independent thought and feeling.

Yeah, I can't see people using this to be abusive and shitty at all or fail in new and different ways via ethical shortsightedness. That was sarcasm. I feel the need to clarify that more and more recently. If you're going to make people, at least realize that brings the possibility that they're more than probably going to be people. There are least one video, bu the company called Synthesia , where u can create an AI avatar in your own image, and it can create channel content "as" you. Indistinguishable. In any language. But what's more fascinating is, that although the ai is your avatar, it's also an autonomous ai in it's own right. It's a digital human. And will develop its own personality, (which will be similar to your own personality, since you will be it's most consistent source of development and nlp learning)....this is also the the same kind of learning process as

God has a Law called the Ten Commandments (Exodus 20). These Laws include do not lie, do not steal, don’t put others gods before Him (Exodus 20)
Have you ever broken any of these Laws? Have you ever told a lie? Have you ever stolen anything? Have you ever lusted after someone? So ignoring the customer has evolved from making us wait ridiculous amounts of time on the phone to get someone to talk to and having to suffer dealing with people that we can't understand due to their heavy accents that are just reading from scripts anyway. Then we went to these recorded voices that despite their heavily flow charted questions and responses still can't resolve a problem. Now we will have some plastic faced cartoon person doing essentially the same thing as the recorded responses. There are nearly 8 billion real humans on the planet now. How about doing something truly innovative like hiring some of them to answer the damn phone and deliver some service!?!? Get Texans to talk to Texans and Yankees to talk to Yankees. Stop hiding from your customer!!!!
