    In today's video we spend our first full day visiting two sites unique to Hanoi Vietnam. When walking around Hanoi, one must be extremely careful due to the lack of sidewalks for pedestrian use, and the driving habits of the locals that most foreigners are not use to.

    Was just there in February. Hanoi is very walkable but Grab cars are comfortable and inexpensive for the longer distances. The Uniqlo there has great prices. The water puppet show was fun and we viewed Ho Chi Minh's body too.

    Nice vid brother! Train area where you stand or sit had way more room than the one in Thailand. I am glad the relationship has changed between our two countries. John McCain had incredible courage to be able to go back with no resentment or hate and visit/re-live where he was held captive is powerful stuff and a lesson for everyone

    Joe, nice to see you all having fun. Been doing business with Vietnam since 2007. People are great, food is incredible and they can be tough as nails. In recent history, they spanked the French, the Americans and the Chinese.
    My thoughts and prayers to those that lost family members and goods in the recent storm. One factory I buy from had it's roof peeled off. Thankfully, no injuries. They evacuated to a safe place but it took a couple of days to reestablish contact.

    You'll notice the concrete "beds" in the cells are sloped down from where the legs were shackled, that was so the prisoners couldn't lay down very long. I was there in 1999 and 2001 with a group of Vietnam vets and have videos of some of the trips on my channel. Truc Bach lake there has a marker showing the spot McCain was pulled out of the water. There's also part of a B-52 sticking out of a little lake that they repaint the US star every year. The Vietnam Military History Museum is okay. Go to Ha Long Bay and do a dragon boat tour and see some caves. Not sure where you are going after Hanoi, but if you want some ideas of places to see over there let me know. Wish i was there again, have a couple of Tiger beers for me and some spring rolls with peanut sauce. Martin

    Nothing to apologize for showing the former POW prison Hanoi Hilton. It was part of history just like Pearl Harbor or Nagasaki? People visit every day. Thanks Joe for allowing people to see this infamous place. How narrow some people are to think a visit to history is an endorsement? I walked on Omaha + Utah Beach + took pictures where 10K of our boys lost their lives. Was very moving. Great video Joe! Rick

    Hanoi Hilton. Hard to say I enjoyed seeing it, but it was interesting and enormously disturbing to see what our guys went through. First time I've ever seen any of it. My father was in the Vietnam war late 60s like 67-68 or so in the Navy on the USS Coral Sea. The train, I wonder how many people have been slammed into by that train over the years? I appreciate the tour even with a few tears..

    Thank you Gift, Joe and David for sharing your 1st day in Hanoi. That train street was a bit scary as it seemed as if the train was going quite fast! The prison was fascinating but had a definite slant towards Communist ideals. I liked the added philosophical bit from Mr. McCain about his experiences there, which I guess that every serviceman must expect if they go to war. It was a great mistake for USA to ever get involved in that conflict and also the "Secret War" in Laos. Having worked in prisons, I always take an interest in prison history and current practices, which in many countries the treatment of prisoners is still far from humane. Take care with all those crazy motor scooter drivers. God bless you all 😀❤🙏

    I’m a Veteran but was stationed in nearby Korea at the time. Vietnam looks beautiful and the People seem nice, however, I have no wish to visit there. I was too young to understand the politics, but I’ve read that S Vietnam asked the World for help, and the Americans responded, but I don’t know, especially since the French got out. There are negatives like the North and Cong were butchering people in the south.
    As far as John McCain, he was a RINO and worked against his party. There was a story that he was involved with a fire on a ship, but not sure that’s true, besides being a POW hero!
    With respect to the Americans and other Allies who died, as a traveler, Vietnam is not on my list.

    Your trip has convinced me that I have no interest whatsoever to visit Vietnam. Way too congested. No room on the sidewalk, no room on the street; they are just full of aggressive, rude people laying on their horn. I also noticed the cars liked using their horn too. If I want to see rude people, there are better places in this world to find them.

    • @thaigirlgiftforeignerjoe7774
      @thaigirlgiftforeignerjoe7774  Месяц назад +2

      I don’t think they are being rude, it’s more their lifestyle and the way they communicate their intentions of passing or that they are near you. Unique way of driving and I know, but it’s their country.

    • @fido7783
      @fido7783 Месяц назад

      The people are not rude at all. Very nice and cheerful. They are honking to let others know they are coming through. You'll most likely see more rude people looking in your own house than in Vietnam.

We also shared some clips of John McCain talking about his experience as a POW. In addition, we shared some info in the description of our video from Wikipedia about John McCain’s lifetime career. No propaganda intended, this was our experience in Hanoi today.
