The prices of plants and auction culture is so awful right now...I'm so glad we have such a wonderful company like Crystal Star Nursery that sells healthy and reasonably priced plants. I always make sure to go through their lists the day before and decide which plants I want to try for so it isn't as stressful the day of. I'm in Calgary and you can only really get basic hoyas here, so it's worth it for me to order the ones I really want when they're available. Honestly the prices of plants is so high that it's worth it to get an import permit and import them/acclimate them ourselves. I'll definitely be looking into getting my import license next summer!
There’s definitely risks with importing plants which is why I just purchase from local nurseries or at least within Canada so that they are acclimated. Would hate for one of my hoyas to die on me while acclimating 😫. But yes crystal star is affordable for most of their plants!
I have a question about the new growth on my pubicalyx and cornosa splash.. they have a ton of new growth and shoots that are about two feet swaying in the air lol they were on trellises when I purchased but I’m not sure when I secure this new growth? I’ve heard if they are winding downward they will die off? 😫
You can have them hang if you want but it’s more manageable for me to have it trellises up because the tendrils tend to latch onto random things such as other plants and when I pull it away to water it everything can come crashing down 😅. Also more space saving since it just uses vertical space lol
The prices of Hoya plants are outrageous. The Hoya cuttings are way over the top. I just started collecting again and the cuttings are expensive and you’re not even getting the plant. I finally found a local grower with beautifully healthy and strong plants and good prices.
I love orchids! To me they are very easy to take care of.

no they won't die off if wind downwards. i tend to just trellis them to keep them from growing too messy and all over the place!

yah it has increased recently as well but definitely not as bad as philodendrons and anthuriums :(

Yes do it!!!! Love trellising up the carnosas. They grow quickly and will fill it out nicely!
