I ordered the epix 2 just waiting for it to arrive. The screen alone looks great and it has all the features that the 7 has. I know that battery doesn't last as long as the 7 but not an issue to charge it overnight. If on a long hike a small charging brick or solar charger will work.
I'm glad I have the fenix 7x, for me battery over screen all day long. Depends what you want in a watch but I think the Fenix is the true Garmin out of the two.
Garmin is testing the waters with the Epix. For myself, I would not buy unless you get a solid 2 weeks or more with that AMOLED always on and that probably requires the 7X size and doubtful even in that size you could get that. The Epix is headed more to the Apple Watch. The Fenix is the true Garmin DNA.
Yes I agree. Many have wanted to see an AMOLED on the Fenix so I understand why Garmin made the Epix. I bet it will sell well. I don't like charging the watch so it makes me lean towards Fenix 7.
I don’t understand this ? Why do you need a watch to last 2 weeks ? It take around an hour and a half to fully charge it. You charge your phone every single day. The Epix is superb I have it and it blows the Fenix away just by having an amazing screen.
@@paulgal With my 7X I almost get a month. It's nice not to have to charge multiple devices. Overall, I returned the Epix mostly because I am a 6'2", 220lb guy and find that the 7 or Epix size is too small looking on my wrist. If they make an Epix in 7X size, I will buy it immediately, although I am not crazy about the always on destroying battery and the wrist gestures get pretty annoying in the evening when the OLED lights up at every wrist trigger.... I don't know, 7X is more utility for me.
@@SmartwatchLabs it's a first person shooter PC game (not sure they ever released it on console) that was way ahead of its time. Its graphics were simply outstanding for the period, but to play it at max (or almost max) settings, you needed the absolute top computer spec, otherwise your machine couldn't run it. The mark of having an excellent computer became the question 'yeah, but can it run Crysis?'
this is a great looking watch. the only thing I see is the size coming from a larger fenix model watch. I think they need to make this in a 51mm like the fenix 7x
Thank you for that vidéo. I Was really interested in viewing the display comparison between Fenix 7x and the Epix. The dilemma is now to choose battery vs display.
It was intresting to see when these watches came out, everybody was crazy about the Epix, but now there are more and more used Epix gen2 can be found on second-hand market because the Fènix fans dissapointed with the shortened battery life and the AMOLED screen is very hard to read by normal sunlight in summertime.
In my opinion. Epix is trying to be a perfect smart watch without microphone and LTE and doing so compromise battery efficiency making less appealing its sport identity. Meanwhile I heard from many users that they were not satisfied with the Epix buttons. I agree about the screen quality but on top of any design choice there is a question: what the product want to be. In my view Epix should be the smart way to be sporty: 1 LTE 2 Microphone 3 Vocal suggestion during your training (too fast, too slow, wrong cadence and so on) 4 - visual animation of exercises Otherwise it is just fenix.7 with a better screen and less battery life. Not enough. The idea is there, the product not yet.
Still glad I bought the 7xss- arrive in next 2 weeks. Less annoying than the Epix having it flash you in dim conditions when you are not even wanting to look at the watch. All the work arounds for that have significant drawbacks.
@@SmartwatchLabs You can put the Epix into sleep mode and use the watch like that. You can turn raise to wake off and therefore just press a button or tap the screen to turn on. The second one isn't there isn't too bad but I'd rather the 7x always on over doing that.
For #3, isn't the opposite true in bright daylight where the Epix will require you to manually increase the brightness (gesture or touch) unlike the Fenix? Or you can still read it in always on dimmed brightness?
Great video, just the comparison I was looking for. Did the 7X have the back light on, at what level brightness ? I already bought the Epix and the screen is so much easier to read than my 6X. But I am sill wondering if I should swap it for a 7X for the much longer battery life.
Epix too early to judge I suppose. Every charge degrades Battery quality… it is to see if Epicx owners are still happy after 2 years charging a lot more than Fenix x owners… I guess it depends if you like more smartwatch go Epix. If you do a lot of sports weekly go for the Rugge Fenix which will last you longer on the short term (less charging) and more important in the long term the Fenix will still be a joy after many years🤔
@@PeterVlutters I ended up returning the Epix and swapped it for the Fenix 7X SS. I prefer the larger screen, not as sharp as the Epix screen but it looks crisper and has better contrast than my 6X. I prefer the battery life of the 7X.

Fenix 7X is indeed a great watch

But the greatest Point over all for the 7X: Solarcharging and Batterylife. Btw, can the Epix run Crysis ?
Yes totally the 7x battery life and solar charging are definitely great features. What is Crysis?

Battery life, I don't mind charging every 4-5 days as my current watch needs to be recharged like every 1.5 days.

Yes would be great to see an Epix 2X

Well said. Battery vs Display
I think that benefits from display, by far compensate weaker battery life (which still is not bad comparing for example to Apple Watch) :)
Tbh if I'm buying watch for sports purpose then I'd like to have a robust and durable watch which I can throw around. I'd go for Fenix

Thanks for the info. Didn't know the used market has more epix than fenix 7.
i'm one of these

7X definitely has many advantages. Can you clarify what workarounds are you referring to?

I always buy a nmew fenix watch at launch, always wanted the AMOLED display, the epix 2 is perfect, but the price is insane!
Yes totally agree the price is super high. The Fenix 7 starting at 699 is more in line whit what one is used to on launch.
Im on always on with 11days left. I also ran it for an hour workout.
For #3, isn't the opposite true in bright daylight where the Epix will require you to manually increase the brightness (gesture or touch) unlike the Fenix? Or you can still read it in always on dimmed brightness?
I think the Epix ambient light sensor would adjust the brightness by default. I will try to do some more testing once I have a sunny day.
I have the fenix 7x solar sapphire the only reason why I won't change to a epix it I use the torch heaps more than I thought I would.
The led flashlight is indeed great
I'm seeing reviews that the solar charging is more gimmick than practical which adds to your case.
Well I do think solar charging is useful but maybe not worth the money for most. Depends on how much you value the extra days it gives you.
You should have shown how it looks on always on display for the epix
Fenix 7 will come on with a wrist flick. I'll take the battery everytime for training, after all yhat what's its about.
Yes battery life is important

AMOLED or SOLAR?!? DAM YOU GARMIN, JUST GIVE US BOTH!!!
Still wondering which to choose :( i like dark color of f7solar, to get tho on epix it’s necessary to pay much more :(
I have enjoyed the Fenix 7 more than the Epix but it's battery vs AMOLED.
pain in the ass to film the epix alongside with the 7, the exposure will never be right.
Yeah the exposure is never correct for both
Hyvää settiä!
Kiitos Kimmo
Shomke and pancake 😉
00:28 in the video and the Epix has already disqualified itself
Not sure what are you referring to. Can you clarify?
@@SmartwatchLabs display always off ;)
Not really. epix 2 can be always on as well.
