- Hello friends!
In this video you will see how I made the excavation and foundation for the massive dugout and installed the wooden structure from whole logs. Excavation was very difficult and tiring considering that I came across a rock that was not in the plan. Thanks to a heavy pickaxe, I managed to break it in a few days. I burn the log columns that I put in the ground on an open fire to slow down the rotting. I use massive beams to connect the columns and the whole structure, and I connect all the details with long nails. I end the day with rose hip tea in a peaceful forest environment and the pleasant company of my dog. I sleep in the hammock and continue my work in the next video...see you

I've said it before, your artistry on your projects is amazing and I love it. So, please don't take this the wrong way, but as a combat engineer with the USMC for 12 years, I've done some bunker building. If you put a diagonal beam from the top of the rear corner uprights toward the front and bury the other end at the base of the next upright you will be able to translate the horizontal load from the hill behind your dugout into the ground and it will be more stable and last much longer. Two extra beams will add a ton of strength.

@Mountain Hacker on the corner posts closest to the hill notch the posts near the top so you can add another beam. This new beam will brace the corner post and will need to be cut on an angle. The angled end is inserted in the notch and angled down in the opposite direction of the hill. You are bracing the corner post. The other end gets buried in the ground near the base of the next upright.
@Mountain Hacker No, go all the way to the next large upright. The larger the angle, up to 45 degrees the better the brace. 45 degrees would be ideal. Triangles are super strong in construction and the ground in this case becomes the third leg of your triangle.

@@alecsandru8588 A buttress is a brace that transfers the load of the top horizontal beam to the vertical post. He installed these on the back wall parallel to the cut in the hill. This also added strength and rigidity to the structure but will primarily support the weight of the roof.

На этот раз Вы строите что-то грандиозное ! :) Если не ошибся , Вы посадили семена каштана ? Я тоже сажу деревья. Под большими дубами ищу совсем маленькие , молодые дубы - это готовые саженцы, осторожно выкапываю их и пересаживаю на новое , подходящее место, поливаю по возможности. Под дубом они вряд ли сильно вырастут , а на новом месте у них будет больше шансов вырасти до взрослого дерева.Только желательно присмотреть подходящее место для них(какие места более всего любят дубы, можно найти в интернете). Ещё часто дубы "садят" птицы) , роняют жёлуди, а те в свою очередь прорастают. Так же и с орехами кстати ). Дуб - благородное , красивое дерево, причем летом хорошо пахнет! Один минус у дуба- растет долго, но и живёт тоже оооочень долго. Есть некоторые дубы доживают до 300 лет ,а долгожители до 700. Буду рад видеть , если Вы будете и дальше садить деревья 🙂
Люблю ваш комментарий! Я рад, что вы коснулись этой темы. Если вы смотрели мои предыдущие видео, то могли видеть, что я регулярно сажаю деревья. В этом видео я посадила каштаны. На том месте, где я начал строить, я наткнулся на молодое деревце (не знаю, какое именно, потому что у него опали листья), поэтому я пересадил его в другое место, где я его не повредю. Я не могу все записывать и вставлять в свои видео, но да, я забочусь об устойчивости лесов. на скале много молодых дубов (видео раньше), теперь вы подтолкнули меня пересадить их возле моего дома! Благодарю вас! 👍

My Gawd dude, this was amazing! You go from your Cliffdwelling right to another mindblowing project... you hit hard pan and drilled right through it (BTW, what great material for your foundation)! The frame to your house looks great , I know there's some prep, but still so what, your skills are amazing! And replanting Chestnut trees that's just great, I know it won't shut up all the haters but still a true friend of the forest you are for sure! Was that a night vision monocular I saw in the opening scene when you were packing? You're a mysterious man, Luxon, I'm sure people are beginning to wonder if you're some sort of X-Man or something 🤣! And little Lajka, doing such a good job supervising you!... what a sweet dog she is!!! Ok, sorry to go on but I so enjoy your content and learn so much, Thank You!
Hi David, I'm glad you commented! I accidentally came across a stone and managed to get some use out of it, although it slowed me down for 4 days of work 😅 I always try to give something back to nature, and now I have recorded it. When packing, you saw my knife in the suitcase. I intend to spend the winter here in the lowlands, so there will be interesting details in the construction. Except when it snows, then I'll jump off the cliff to try out the fireplace. See you in 2 weeks, and until then take care

I find it exciting to watch your huts being built. Can you just do it like that in your country or is it a private forest? In Germany, unfortunately, the forest authorities would be on your back immediately and everything would have to be demolished again.

Wow Luxon, it seems like such a big undertaking, but if anybody can do this by himself, you can! 😊 So, as always, I have questions: do you prefer building on a slope more than level ground or is it just conducive to building a dugout? Did you spread the broken up Stone all over the floor? I think that hand drill for the ground was very cool and I was wondering if the blade you used to debark the trees was something you invented or is it a real thing? I am very excited to see how this moves forward and what it will look like. Sometimes in my mind I think I can picture what you're going to do next, but you always surprise me. Thank you. 😀👍
Hi Andrea! I've been wanting to make a big dugout for a long time. I got the material this summer, but as you know I fell in love with the cliff so I postponed the dugout. I used flagstone as a base for the floor. I call the stone tool (used by the dwarves in Snow White) a pickaxe, and I peeled the bark with a scraper used to remove the bark in sawmills. @@luxonbushcraft I know about the pick axe, but I had seen that blade that you cranked with your hands to drill into the ground and I thought it was very cool. It seems more efficient than a post hole digger. 🤗
