Nintendo didn't care much about revealing the original Switch during the Wii U's last holiday season. The original Switch was revealed in October 2016 before it was released in March 2017. With a Switch 2 likely to be released in early 2025, a Sept/Oct 2024 reveal would make sense, regardless of impact toward original Switch sales this holiday.
I think an argument could be made that the Wii U situation was much different though. Sure Switch sales are definitely slowing down, but the Wii U had been on a long, hard decline since at least 2013-14, Nintendo was ready to move on as quickly as possible. Where I doubt the Wii U would've sold particuarly well in the 2016 Christmas period, the Switch might do well enough in the 2024 period to consider a later announcement. Honestly I still think the announcement will be this year, and soon, but I don't think it's unreasonable to expect a later reveal.
@@MarvelousMinotaur honestly i think the opposite would be true, precisely *because* the wii u sold poorly you might think nintendo would have wanted to eek out a few more holiday sales. if nintendo really wanted to move on from the wii u ASAP then i reckon the switch would have been announced for a holiday release. instead, i think nintendo simply has other reasons to have revealed it when they did
The Wii U had already stopped production and was getting hard to find even before December 2016 though. Something like the Game Boy Micro might be more comparable.
Very true, but it was also the Wii U we came from. I don't think Nintendo cares about one holiday season though if the Switch 2 does have backward compatibility (since people who want a switch mostly have one and they can still get games)
So to answer your question as to why they'd announce it before the holiday season, every sign is pointing to production starting this month, and that's where a majority of hardware leaks come from. Either the internet finds out about the Switch 2 from some factory worker trying to get their 15 minutes of fame, or Nintendo can do an official, controlled announcement. That's the choice they're facing right now.
It's crazy that probably by the time switch 2 releases, the nintendo switch is gonna be EIGHT years old.. It may be just me, but the switch still kind of feels new.. Doesn't feel like a near decade old console.

The problem with these rumors is, that every week someone says: "Nintendo will reveal the Switch 2 next week!" Eventually one of these rumors will end up being true, but the vast majority have been nonsense. I also agree with you that it's too early to reveal the Switch 2. The only exception I could maybe think of would be, if Nintendo tried to announce the Switch 2 as their next premiere, backwards compatible system (probably $350 - 400 US), while the Switch 1 gets a big price drop is being advertised as a cheap introductory console (maybe $200 - 250 US).
I’m old enough to remember the rumors surrounding the “Nintendo Revolution”. That was probably the last time I paid any attention to console release rumor mills.
There was another report saying that mass production for the switch 2 has started, and that Switch 2 will be the final name for the console. They probably want to reveal it before leaks start coming out from mass production
@@rueblie2627 I will never understand this perspective. They dont want a Wii U situation. It works for Sony, it explains all thats needed to explain, whats the issue?

@Ascension721 They don't want a Wii U situation, but they do want a Super Nintendo, or Game Boy Advancr, or 3DS situation. The problem was that "U" doesn't suggest better like "Super" and "Advance" does. Now tbf, I can't really think of a better name than "Switch 2" rn, so it's not a bad name, but there's definitely "more Nintendo-y" ways of naming it. "The Calm Before The NX Storm" was the fist video I ever watched from your channel. In an era when there was worry and fear regarding the NX, thinking if it could pull Nintendo out if their rough spot, your video provided me peace and calmness. That whatever Nintendo puts out, it's gonna be a change to the game. And sure enough, when they revealed the Switch a few weeks later, there was no going back; a new era was upon us. Being in this position again 8 years later, waiting for the Switch 2 announcement, there's definitely a different tension in the atmosphere compared to 2016. Not desperate hope, but rather just curiosity if Nintendo can recapture the magic again. Well whatever they show, I'm sure it's gonna be memorable. For better, or for worse.
I’ve worked in advertisements before and big stuff like this is normally shot months and months in advance. And you could argue it would be shot and released with very little time in between to reduce risk of leaking, but the actors that are in these things really don’t care about leaking stuff like this, they just care about the money they were paid to be in it and also, they signed NDAs, so they can’t leak it for risk of damaging their career. So, I don’t believe in this rumour. They probably have a trailer ready if it’s gonna be soon, I don’t doubt that though.
I genuinely can’t take it anymore. I wasn’t on social media that much for the NX so I only remember how people would fight over if the hybrid thing was real. Following switch 2 rumours is giving me incredible burn out bro
All I want is the Switch we have now but with updated specs, more ergonomic joycons, backwards compatibility, and not having its virtual console library to be totally reset once again. Just do that. No new gimmicks, no need to reinvent the wheel. The Switch concept works, it just needs a little bit of polish.
I think he just hit the nail on the head. The rumors of "something soon" was referencing a developer related reveal/action. It's not a consumer facing thing. It really is too early for a public reveal.
I heard someone else say that they might want to reveal the Switch 2 before winter time, so people waiting for the holidays to get a Switch could just wait a little longer for a Switch 2.
It’s so exciting that we might finally get to see what Nintendo has up their sleeve for next-gen as soon as this week (if not, then next month). I know some people feel tired of Switch 2 speculation but it really is going to be a huge deal to see what they can pull off with more modern hardware.
@@rueblie2627 to me, that feels too close to holiday/Black Friday season for them to want to place it then. I do see your point though, I don’t think they want to compete with their game releases
@@twosoup3252 I don’t really see the issue with it being close to the holiday season with the announcement. Even if they announced it tomorrow it would be unlikely to release until well into the new year.
if they're gonna do the same kind of reveal for switch 2, and the system launches in april or may, i can't imagine why the trailer *wouldn't* drop soon, parallel to its predecessor. only 3-4 months between reveal and release (e.g. january to april) seems too short to me
I gotta say, "The Calm before the Switch 2 Storm" feels really different than the "Calm Before the Switch Storm"! I guess it's because our expectations are high, and yet, it feels like whatever they do can't really be as crazy as the Switch was. Nintendo's in a good spot now and I think everyone is expecting them to play it much safer than they did previously. Plus... The Switch is still doing really well, so we aren't just voracious for new Nintendo stuff.
I've always maintained that Switch 2 is probably not announced until all first party headliner titles are out and no longer being actively supported. With Splatoon 3 concluding updates that pretty much does it for Switch's stable of those, every first party coming out this holiday is B-lister stuff like Mario Party etc. The wrinkle is Prime 4 still being set for next year, but I have to imagine that is going to be a cross-gen game ala BotW. Or if the new system has backwards compatibility that won't even be an issue.
With all of these rumors, I feel like I'm back in school where people would tell you things about games like unlocking Luigi in Mario 64. And occasionally something would be true. lol
The first guy said "a trailer-like commercial." That alone makes me doubt he really knows anything. "There's gonna be a trailer for the new console" is like someone predicting that the sun is gonna rise tomorrow. I cannot put into words how deeply stupid that is.
From someone that does a lot of work in commercial production, if it’s from a big company like Nintendo, they probably already have a air date for it planned. But the 1-6 week window that was posted is probably WAY off. The bigger a company is the more people have their hands involved in a commercial even if it’s a simple edit to put together. You still have to get approval from internal creative, client creative, corporate, lawyers, devs, etc… so probably looking around mid Nov before it’s ready to air. Theres also the possibility they just hold onto it for months, that’s a strong possibility too. 🤷🏼♂️
the original switch was announced officially in the second half of october in 2016, before a march release in 2017. obviously the wii u was already 6 feet under by that point, and so nintendo probably had less reason to wait till after the holidays for the reveal, but it does show nintendo isnt afraid of doing an early announcement in that vein
I imagine rumors will continue flying after the reveal trailer through its actual release date. We only answer the questions of what the system looks like, what new features and games it will have, new wishlists, etc will still be speculated and rumored about. I enjoy pre console launch rumors but I still watch Nintendo rumors all the time from Spawn Wave industry headlines.

@@MacUser2-il2cxlmao
Will they still make PS4 games when the PS6 comes out is the question
The problem with these rumors is, that every week someone says: "Nintendo will reveal the Switch 2 next week!" Eventually one of these rumors will end up being true, but the vast majority have been nonsense. I also agree with you that it's too early to reveal the Switch 2. The only exception I could maybe think of would be, if Nintendo tried to announce the Switch 2 as their next premiere, backwards compatible system (probably $350 - 400 US), while the Switch 1 gets a big price drop is being advertised as a cheap introductory console (maybe $200 - 250 US).
we might be "movin' right along", but the last time i heard a muppet say that, he got lost a couple times before reaching his destination, so....
Turn left at the fork in the road !!
Well then I know that rumour is bogus because there is no way it’s actually called the Switch 2
I’m calling it now, It’s called 2 Switch 4 U
@@rueblie2627 I will never understand this perspective. They dont want a Wii U situation. It works for Sony, it explains all thats needed to explain, whats the issue?
@@Ascension721It’s not nintendo. Nintendo have never named a second console “2” and they never will likely. They could name switch 2 anything, they could name it the Nintendo Snap, Nintendo Swap, Nintendo Advance, Super Nintendo Switch, i think you’re forgetting that it doesn’t have to have switch in the name necessarily.
Ps: I'm still dissappointed there wasn't a pro model for the Switch just because the name "Switch Deluxe" would have perfect for that.
Arlo in 2023: "It makes no sense to not reveal the new console in 2024."
Arlo in 2024: "It makes no sense to reveal the new console in 2024."
It's getting revealed this year and released early next year.
@@MacUser2-il2cx No guarantee anymore, the factory in Vietnam got flooded last week, so it may be delayed.
@@QuizMasterEntertainment i thought the leak came from China?
@@MacUser2-il2cx And your point is...? I'm literally talking about a big issue with the production.
The end of 2023 was kinda a slow time for the Switch if I remember correctly. We have more noteworthy stuff coming out soon so maybe that’s why his opinion changed
The switch 2 is gonna be the friends we made along the way
Paul was actually in one of the early Nintendo Switch commercials. I would bet my money that he would stay in touch with Nintendo’s production folks
i think the Switch 1 commercial was filmed about a year before the launch, & ever since then Nintendo still has to invite people to their Rooftop Switch Party
Arlo please I'd love to know your thoughts about the Splatoon 3 grand finale, the winning team theme and what it might mean for the future of the Splatoon franchise's plot line.
_20 minutes later..._
well it came quickly lmao
Your videos always cheer me up. In hospital atm and your videos make it less shit
3:26 Great reference, my friend!
A week after the Switch 2 release: "The Switch 2 Pro is in development and it has 32GB of RAM and a microOLED screen"
honestly I care less about the system itself and more about what games they got cooking for it
Metroid prime 4’s graphics are AMAZING, Pokémon Legends Z-A, possibly a splatoon 4 (guess), a 3d mario, i HOPE they include a pack in title of some sort, maybe the miis can return
Hopefully a new Mario Kart that isn’t a gimmick like Tour or Home Circuit. I’m kinda sick of MK8 after 10 years
I can't wait to see the real next Zelda game that the team was working on all this time that TotK was being teased.
@@TheDerpyDolphin Honestly i like when mario games are gimmick focused without BEING gimmicks, like how galaxy showed the motion control gimmicks
People underestimate how early they need to start. All this stuff takes months.
i mean, usually when they film secretive stuff (music videos, movies, commercials, etc.) not even the actors know what they’re getting into, only vague info is shared
Arlo’s Nephew be like “ma ma! get in here Uncle Arlo’s on the TV!”
i was just binging your "calm before" videos lol, so it would be awesome to have one in the moment
They want reveal BEFORE christmas. They want people to wait with buying console because the more people buying Switches this holiday, the less will buy Switch 2.
Arloooooooo you made this one day early. The big leak happened today 😭
I'm absolutely with you, I didn't realize how much fun NX speculation was and how much i missed it until recently with Switch 2 rumors
I bet the trailer will include Mario Kart 9 footage and I am HYPED
Neat! Excited for calm before the Switch 2 storm!
This month is moving right along in search of good times and good news
A New Years Eve/Day announcement would be so cool
I think he just hit the nail on the head. The rumors of "something soon" was referencing a developer related reveal/action. It's not a consumer facing thing. It really is too early for a public reveal.
I heard someone else say that they might want to reveal the Switch 2 before winter time, so people waiting for the holidays to get a Switch could just wait a little longer for a Switch 2.
That feeling of “rumor season is over with” was exactly how it felt losing daily elden ring updates after it released.
Two Switch rumors? Looking like a double-wide surprise!
WAKE UP BRO
Yeah it is fun to speculate about stuff based on rumors!
It’s so exciting that we might finally get to see what Nintendo has up their sleeve for next-gen as soon as this week (if not, then next month). I know some people feel tired of Switch 2 speculation but it really is going to be a huge deal to see what they can pull off with more modern hardware.
I’m feeling more mid-November, just after Brothership comes out. There’s no reason to distract from its release
@@rueblie2627 to me, that feels too close to holiday/Black Friday season for them to want to place it then. I also don’t see them waiting that long if it’s entered production as has been rumored, since that’s just asking for leaks to happen.
If the Switch 2 is not revealed this month, it’s definitely going to be revealed in October. I’m excited!
The rumors don’t stop at the announcement, they just switch to the games
"A Week Of" Arlo it's only Tuesday, please don't scare me like this
Calm Before the Switch 2 Storm?? Ooooooh I am so hyped!!!
The anticipation of the next Nintendo console is always fun.
It's probably the 4DS, not the Switch 2, that they made the trailer for.
Its me shiggy and I here to confirm there will be no Switch 2 family of system unless Arlo acknowledges that I indeed do like stories in Mario!
But you don't.
Shiggy M!!!
I mean the rumors that you actively dislike stories in Mario is really stupid.
Hi Shiggy!!!
I would rather have no Switch 2 than hear Arlo utter that lie
I've always maintained that Switch 2 is probably not announced until all first party headliner titles are out and no longer being actively supported. With Splatoon 3 concluding updates that pretty much does it for Switch's stable of those, every first party coming out this holiday is B-lister stuff like Mario Party etc. The wrinkle is Prime 4 still being set for next year, but I have to imagine that is going to be a cross-gen game ala BotW. Or if the new system has backwards compatibility that won't even be an issue.
Need a rumblings tracker to keep up with which happened
With all of these rumors, I feel like I'm back in school where people would tell you things about games like unlocking Luigi in Mario 64. And occasionally something would be true. lol
The first guy said "a trailer-like commercial." That alone makes me doubt he really knows anything. "There's gonna be a trailer for the new console" is like someone predicting that the sun is gonna rise tomorrow. I cannot put into words how deeply stupid that is.
3:36 at this point, nobody could make Sony look worse other than Sony
From someone that does a lot of work in commercial production, if it’s from a big company like Nintendo, they probably already have a air date for it planned. But the 1-6 week window that was posted is probably WAY off. The bigger a company is the more people have their hands involved in a commercial even if it’s a simple edit to put together. You still have to get approval from internal creative, client creative, corporate, lawyers, devs, etc… so probably looking around mid Nov before it’s ready to air. Theres also the possibility they just hold onto it for months, that’s a strong possibility too. 🤷🏼♂️
Im 21. Ive had my switch for 1/3 of my life. You sleep 1/3 of your life.
Nah, the rumor mill never stops. Next year it'll be leaks about a new Smash, then we'll get a few years of Smash DLC rumors, then Switch 2 Pro.
I wanna know how they got so many people to keep the original Switch quiet when you consider all those people watching teens playing Splatoon 2.
It still feels like Switch2 is like, a year or more away, even though we know it's coming sooner.
Arlo's videos are always so fun
the original switch was announced officially in the second half of october in 2016, before a march release in 2017. obviously the wii u was already 6 feet under by that point, and so nintendo probably had less reason to wait till after the holidays for the reveal, but it does show nintendo isnt afraid of doing an early announcement in that vein
I think they're going to stick as close to the switch formula as possible. I expect a trailer either this month or October for sure.
Arlo knows something. I can smell it.
"A certain next Gen console" is the kind of information you get from someone who wants to brag about the shoot they're on but avoid that NDA lawsuit 💀
RUMBLING RUMBLING IS COMING
Yes! I was just about to comment this!
Patiently waiting for the Switch 2. It's time. They milked the switch for what it's worth, now give us Mario Galaxy 3, Mario Maker 3, and give us everything.
Im at least more optimistic with hearing swtich 2 rumors than i was hearing NX rumors.
