Just graduated college and wanted to say - transferring is an option. Don’t settle for a place you don’t feel connected to. So glad I did that.

I know she talked a lot about not picking a college for prestige, because your friends are there, etc... but GIRL, 👏LISTEN👏TO👏HER.
I'm one of the poor souls who literally did just that and came to regret it hardcore. Let's just say I went to a very "prestigious" public uni in Los Angeles and did not click with it at ALL because I did not choose it for the right reasons. Top schools are amazing places to learn, but don't base your entire decision on a name. A lot of people saying a certain school is coveted doesn't guarantee you'll like it, so really do some honest research + soul searching before you make that decision. I also chose that school because my best friend chose it too. We grew apart for some reasons I won't explain, but don't put all your eggs in one basket PLEASE. I'm at a community college now (still a great choice, way happier now!), planning on transferring somewhere better for me. It'll all work out in the end, but considering your longterm needs when choosing a school will def speed up that process.
Also, love you Jasmine, we're all so proud of you

Funnily enough I while choosing schools I initially chose the prestigious one but while applying something's went wrong but I got into another one and I actually prefer the one I got accepted to but my dad is breathing down my neck about going to the prestigious one even though I don't want to and I didn't get in

    • @Daisyhstone
      @Daisyhstone 2 года назад +34

Emphasis on not putting all your eggs in one basket!!!!
I have just finished my third year at uni (about to go into my final fourth year) and I definitely learned the hard way that it’s best not to hyper focus on one group of people and remain sprawled out across a few! Don’t just be friends with who you live with- they’re your house mates but also have friends you go out and see perhaps from your course and perhaps another group you’ve picked up along the way etc.
Create boundaries and varied friendships- don’t suffocate yourself with the same people because when things go pear shaped you may realise you don’t gel with the group as much as you thought or things just don’t work out and then you feel
      SUPER
      lonely.
Anyone going through that transition at uni / college - you’re not alone and you will find people. I got out of a toxic group I became very embedded in at uni and now have friends dotted around the city who I love and see each once a week or less but feel like I have a good social life seeing people every few days.
Trust me- DONT PUT ALL UR EGGS IN ONE BASKET💗
It’s healthy to have a variety of friends with varied intensity of friendships- you haven’t got to be super close to everyone you know but having slight connections yes yes yes

@@shireenansari9409 I was talking about UCLA but I genuinely don't mean to deter anyone from going there, it just wasn't the place for me :) My comment was meant to emphasize why your decision shouldn't solely rely on factors like that, I didn't mean to call any type of school bad~
I know people there who have really loved being there, I just made the wrong choice for my own preferences. I grew up in SoCal and previously knew I didn't vibe with West Los Angeles. There are some other things that made it the wrong place for me, but the things about it I didn't like could be things others would love! And for clarity, I don't think picking a school in part for the prestige is bad; UCLA is known to be a great school for a reason! If you gave your choice a good amount of thought though, I wouldn't worry too much. College is an adjustment regardless of where you go, I really do hope you have a great experience there

my notes on this vid for anyone who wants them grades
    - professors will be your best friend: they can help you get jobs and make up your resume
    - try not to think of the curriculum but more life skills: talking/making a relationship w your professors is so helpful
    partying and drinking
    - partying can be big in college
    - its very important to stay safe and be aware of your surroundings
    - listen to your body
    - stand up for yourself and others
    - how to take a shot LMAO: make sure you eat but don’t be too full, take it slow, breathe out: don’t smell anything and just do it
    - before you go to sleep: drink a full bottle of water so you aren’t hungover
    - know your limits by experimenting in a comfortable environment with people you trust

As someone as a stem major and minor, gpa doesn’t truly matter all that much at least in my eyes. Like I’m cool with getting Cs bc first off Cs get degrees! Secondly getting a C is not the end of the world. I’ve gotten a couple now and I can say, I truly tried to do well in all of my classes while being involved and taking challenging classes. I feel like getting Cs in STEM is so hush hush. I literally watched as people stressed themselves out to the point of not eating or sleeping enough over assignments that weighed only 10% of the grade. I’d rather keep my Cs and the lessons and experiences that came with them than get all As and nothing else. I just feel like personality, experience in clubs not necessarily major-related, hobbies and living your life outweighs GPA. Last tip of advice, if you’re a stem major don’t just take classes for your major if you can afford to take a “fun” like not related to your major but something you’re interested in!

You are the first influencers to say that going to a Junior college isn't bad. I went to a junior college first and I definitely recommend it. First of all it saves you a TON of money especially if you don't know what you wanna do in college so for the HS seniors dont think that it's a "bad" option.

Tysm for this video everything you said is spot on. The part about friends hits the hardest though. I feel like part of the reason I didn’t enjoy my first year of college was because I surrounded myself with my associates from high school. I got attached to them (since I knew them more than the other people on campus) and didn’t make an effort to meet new people because I was scared.
The only other advice I’d add is that it’s okay to transfer schools! (If you can afford to do so) Idk if it was just me but I used to think that bc I committed to a school that I was like … stuck there and couldn’t change my mind especially since I loved it initially. Although I enjoyed it at first, I realized that it wasn’t the right fit for me.

By the end of my time in college i had one friend who i don’t speak to anymore now so I suggest never let petty arguments with friends get in the way of your experience at college or going to a school or job just bc ur friend is going. Do what YOU want todo! I didn’t follow my remaining friends and go to uni i went on a gap year and now work full time, i don’t have any friends there just close co workers but I’m personally okay and I’m happy with that :) don’t let society make you think you have to go partying every weekend and have these massive groups of friends all the time

As someone who just finished their sophomore year in college and is going to take a gap year , pls think about what you want to do in the future , college is a great opportunity to build the foundations of the life you want to live in the future , senior year of high school was a blur for me and a lot of my friends , purely because of the stress during the application process , it all just happened so fast that I didn’t even realize what happened , what school I picked and did I think it through ,college shouldn’t just be “the next step after high school “ it’s foundation building opportunity , if you want to go to community college do it , you can even transfer to amazing schools through there , I didn’t even realize what I wanted to do because of how fast and stressful things went , parents , school admission , the you see yourself , comparison , guilt while filling your application .......just an advice to anyone in high school , if you want to do something, pls go do it , it will be an amazing experience that you can learn something from , as a human and life pov , but it also can look good on your cv showing that you are a well rounded individual , I’m taking a gap year now to transfer to a school I actually want , I feel I’m late for some reason but I know I’m not and neither are you , it’s always a good time to change your life and re-direct it to the path you do want , it doesn’t have to be an ivy school either , not everyone shines in the same environment , go where you can learn grow , also just an FYI ivy schools don’t teach anything secret , the benefit is getting to meet people who are almost all passionate , innovative and well rounded , so it gives a great networking opportunity, that’s what they add , which is something you can do without an ivy school , you don’t need to go to an ivy school to make human connections

School is not affordable or reasonably priced, and a lot of people cannot get an education without financial aid, so community college is a great option. Also advice for any college people out there, don't live in the dorms especially if you are introverted and the field you choose to go into does matter for job hunting most of the time. People say it doesn't and I listened to them and I regret it. My GPA was horrible in high school and unfortunately I did not have a choice in what college I went to, and my college was horrible and they made my life miserable for four years. I still have not received my physical diploma from them because they think I owe them money when I don't, and I graduated back in 2019.

Omg I’m studying speech pathology! So cool you wanted to do that 💗I just finished my first year so I’m not an expert but to anyone reading this I would like to give my perspective on three things: 1) Highschool friends: I roomed with my two Highschool friends this year and it honestly had good and bad points. It was super comforting to have friends experiencing homesickness with you and we carpooled home a lot but it also shows you a whole other side to some friends. Learning how to get along living in one room is tough but we are all still rooming together next year and it brought my one friend and I wayyyy closer! 2) Rate my professor isn’t everything: I tend to forget rate my professor is even a thing until after I schedule my classes which means then sometimes I see I have “bad” professors and it freaks me out! 2/3 times this happened the professors were excellent. They can’t all be winners, you will always have a few annoying classes but it’s really important to take those reviews with a grain of salt. 3) Partying isn’t everything: You can totally make so many friends without it! I was so scared people wouldn’t like me bc it’s not really my thing, but it’s so not true. There are so many people in college and whether they drink or not they will love to be friends with you! I promise! I say hi to everyone in my dorm and that goes a long way lol. Ly guys 💗

I switched from Nursing to Psychology. Graduated with a 4.0 but can’t find a great paying job. Now searching for good internships and will start my master in MIS this fall. Sigh I’m tired of school and work and living with my family and everything. And super lonely since everything is online and don’t live near friends. I feel like I’m lost.. but not? I’m hoping for the biggest and best change in my situation.

I go to Uni in the UK and our first two years don't matter at all to your final grade, you only need to pass all of your modules to progress onto the next year and it is the last two years that your marks actually start to matter

I started uni in 2020, moved to a new city all alone and lessons were all online then so I didn't get to know anyone. it's been weird having that experience since we couldn't do what people normally do when they start uni

in India, you have to know what to do!!! we cant change a course if we don't like it. the college is based on the course you first picked. either you drop out or be in the same course that's the only option we have. I envy you guys for choicesss!!!
