When we were in Iraq (USMC; 2005) there was this grunt that was a stud with the MK 19. He could put 3 rounds in your bedroom window from 300 yards... no problem. I know 300 yards doesn't sound far, but MK19s weren't meant for precision shooting. The max range on one is over 2300 yards (max effective range is 1500 yards), but again, you're not trying to hit small targets. It truly was amazing to watch this dude put grenades wherever you asked him to. He had the sights down to a science. He had a good eye for range finding too.

I fired one of these in the Marine Corps and it was the most incredible crew sized weapon ever created. The ENTIRE mountaintop was on fire. Every tree. Every vehicle. Every target was obliterated. I feel very sorry for anyone that is ever on the receiving end of one of these weapons let along more than two. A machine-gun grenade launcher is SERIOUS BUSINESS! Highly motivating piece of weaponry. OORAH!

The sheer amount of firepower two of three of those can put down range is pretty incredible. Imagine how much deadlier it would have been back in WW2 to have something like this used in large numbers...

My favorite training was "Nick at Night" or night firing. Tracers going over head NBC mask on throwing metal down range.
@tiredbutntfinished @tiredbutntfinished Yes we did wear NBC mask's on the nick at night range, (Ft Jackson)this is were we were stationary in a cement firing position, not on the low crawl under the wire exercise. So to be clear "Night Infiltration course" is not the same as firing from a stationary fighting position at targets on a fixed range coined "Nick At Night" Peace.

My inlaws live pretty close to Camp Lejeune. I swear, sometimes is sounds like friggen Omaha Beach over there. It's awesome.
There are a lot of marine officers in their neighborhood, and one was in the middle of a divorce, having cought his wife cheating with their neighbor, also a marine. The guy had a meltdown, and buzzed the neighborhood several times in an Apache, probably trying to scare them. Supposedly, he got in deep shit over it.

I was there from 1996-1998 then honorably discharged. I lived in the barracks on mainside and yeah you could always hear the firing of weapons on the ranges even after the sunset. For some reason my company always fired our crew served weapons on Saturdays.
I know the guy got in trouble with the brass, but man though, that’s got to be the ultimate scare tactic, an attack helicopter piloted by an pissed off marine fucking hawking you for cheating with his wife. I’d look over my shoulder every time I stepped outside if that’s the guy I fucked over.
Still a fantastic weapons system for 40+ yrs !!! Picture a N.Korean 1950s type mass charge and 5 or 6 Mk-19s open up !! They are all dead or wounded !!! USMC / Semper Fi

I'm not a soldier, I'm an armchair general so I don't know about being under fire. From the look of it though, you would be better off being shot at by a .50 caliber MG than this thing , there would be nowhere to hide from this and the rain of shrapnel is ridiculous.
I think the idea is to scare the other guys shitless so that they surrender.

Day starts (nowadays) checking LMVs for ILLEGALS (use imagination how USMC discovered it 'necessary' to check for border-crossers before putting MORE BIG HOLES in an LMV)
Takes about 3 bursts of approx. 7 rounds getting on target
Once on target of something armored .. (even @1000m) ... something _special_ happens:
Each burst has a cadence to the volley ...
Gun fires ... (louder than you're familiar with, but it's _expected_
You see LEAD fly ! ... NO TRACERS REQ.! & I'm talking daytime. They're THAT big!
