► Emerald Warrior is a U.S. Special Operations Command sponsored mission rehearsal exercise during which joint special operations forces train to respond to real and emerging worldwide threats.
► The Lockheed AC-130 gunship is a heavily armed, long-endurance ground-attack variant of the C-130 Hercules transport fixed-wing aircraft. It carries a wide array of anti-ground oriented weapons that are integrated with sophisticated sensors, navigation, and fire-control systems. Unlike other military fixed-wing aircraft, the AC-130 relies on visual targeting. Because its large profile and low operating altitudes (around 7,000 ft) make it an easy target, it usually flies close air support missions at night.

Those weapons are hitting signalled targets from 12km in the sky with high accuracy. Pretty efficient and sophisticated machine.

We were flown in to a mountain top strip by a C130. Then we were flown out a few days later. Reving the engines so hard thought they would blow up. We took off and everyone slid backwards, and on the climb the tree tops scraped the bottom of the plane. Best pilots in the world including the Huey Choppers. C130s built in the 50s are still a workhorse of the military. Hats off to the pilots

@@nobilesnovushomo58 Funny thing that. The original AC-130's did not in fact have any dampening system. When the gun fired the whole craft shifted in the opposite direction! The shock absorbers are there now more for crew comfort as well as keeping the gun on target.

My buddy worked on an AC130 crew when he was in the air force. He kept a bunch of those 105mm shells (I think that was the size) cleaned them up, welded handles and made some badass giant beer mugs...🤣 He engraved two of them as a gift at my bachelor party...fuckin great gift.

Yep! that's exactly what happens when you are the "intended target."
They fire around 4 shots in certain parts of the orbit, to measure wind. At which point they are calibrated and ready to fire. Anything you fire at is a direct hit, always. As long as the crosshair was on what you were shooting.

Anyone else realize this plane is flying over 20,000 ft at 300 mph( these are estimated) and hitting targets. Incredible.
no because its not flying anywhere near 20,000 feet. The cabins are unpressurized, they can fly up to around 7,000 feet usually at night to avoid AAA

Does anyone know how pressurization works on this beast? They say it’s an unpressurized cabin yet can reach a ceiling of 39,000 ft. I was trying to search the average (and optimal) altitude range for engagement, but still couldn’t find out what crew does with pressurization at higher altitudes.

@@AnimeFreakish78 no, that's not really a thing. You need one side filled with the guns and the other to have the ammunition and space for crew.

Unlike a jet plane ,this thing can fly for many hours , waiting till the right moment. In love and war timing is everything.
In a real war, he would have lasted no more than a few minutes, since this is a good target for any MANPADS
