The decade sounds almost like its underwater, but in a good way.

With the mic at radically different locations relative to the speakers we hear differences that maybe don't exist in the room.

Yeah I agree, it would be awesome to hear the differences with the same mic'ing.

I felt bad selling and amp for so much. When it had been in the wardrobe for 15 years. I'd forgotten about it completely. ££££

I got a first gen Peavey Rage today for 25 dollars in relatively good shape. besides the dirt and some smudges it's in good order and has all it's knobs, which i find missing on a few peavey amps in Ebay. I saw it sitting there in the store, and asked for the price. when he said 25 dolars, i told the store owner i would take it. it's a loud little bastard. I like that it's got solid construction and plenty of gain. it's a little monster.

Ive seen Decades going for 900... I saw them in Living Room GD's vid and wondered how it compares to the Rage. Definitely different but the Rage would honestly satisfy me with the way Decade prices are 😂

I think prices are starting to fall on the Decade. They're still overpriced but it doesn't seem as insane as it was a year ago

@@phoenixfiles4512 yeah they'll definitely fall, but I doubt they'll ever be as cheap as other similar peavey amps again.

Why is the decade so expensive? It’s not a tube amp, it it? Shit, for 900 you could get a used jcm800

the difference is likely due to the size of the cabinet and the peavey rage having more space around the speaker whereas the peavey decade is smaller and more cramped. I bet if you put some insulation foam in the rear of the rage you could make it sound the same. the peavey decade also has a slightly smaller and different speaker that probably takes much less to reach full saturation, meaning the peavey rage will have to be played considerably louder and at an uncomfortable volume for it to reach the same tone, this is similar to how big full stacks need to be driven and are used with a loadbox to reach saturation but without bleeding ears. it also means that the EQ controls are not the same at all. the decade might seem to have more bass, but this is only because of the smaller speaker and smaller cabinet. when you are playing solo the bass might seem preferable, but you would have to cut the bass when recording, the mastering will do it anyway, or it will ruin the mix. guitars are usually only in the mid and somewhat treble range, never in the lows. try lowering the bass control on the decade and upping the bass and lowering the treble on the rage. they should sound similar then.

i checked the schematics and the rage skips the eq section in sat channel, so any eq pedal should do the trick, also seems that there is a mosfet in the decade sat channel but i dont think it changes the sound so much

No, you're supposed to like the Decade better because a musician who turned out to have a deal with another amp company claimed he used it.

Decade and early Rage are good cheap practice amps. I have both the amps here. I also have tube amps and a Bandit Teal, which are way better but too loud and big for bedroom and heavy. Decade is better sounding than Rage, Rage has channel switch which is nice. Fender Frontman 15 is nice sounding too but will only last 6 months as plastic inputs will disintegrate and not worth hassle to replace. Peaveys are bombproof. Gretch + Dynas straight into Decade = Beautiful thing!
