Honestly looking back at this and how they situated everything happening to be after DMC2 and the Animated Series, it makes more sense. You see Dante going through a state of depression in the anime, and a Solemn demeanor in DMC2 and I feel it’s because after losing him in DMC3 and killing Vergil in DMC1 he really did start to feel alone, even with trish, lady, patty and Morrison, he still felt alone. When Dante crash down and shoots the pope. His demeanor is very serious and somber. He doesn’t even care that he did a heinous act in public, by the cold look in his eyes. Doesn’t really taunt or makes quips when the guards attack him. Even when Nero drop kicks him and they have their Mexican stand off, Dante still has a pretty serious look on him. But as he fights Nero, his silent persona starts to crack, he starts to exhibit emotion the more they fight. Small moments like Dante playfully mimicking revving his sword like Nero, to him actually final speaking when acknowledging Nero arms unique power, and even when he gets throw across the room to causal proportion his body to sit on a bench in comedic fashion. These are all signs he’s having fun with this fight, and probably spark a familiar feeling he probably hasn’t felt in years. Dude this game STILL holds a special place in my heart. It’s the first DMC I ever played! Beat it like 10 times! And I was in the first grade when that happened. I will always love DMC!
This was the first one I was able to beat! I loved this one. I played DMC3 first but was so bad at it I could only goof around and my older brother had to beat it.
i personally prefer the brutal style Nero has. The brute force approach just looks much more devastating. Dont get me wrong Dantes combat is amazing in it´s own right, but the simplicity of stomping your enemy in the concrete and rip them in half is to satisfying
I've always been a fan of the characters who let their anger control them during a fight. Dante is all about styling and not caring at all, but Nero never holds anything back. If you get him pissed, you're done.
@JUST WAIT, AND WATCH! I literally mentioned what happened with Urizen. That after Nero got his Devil Breakers, he was more powerful than Dante at the start of 5 and in 4. Not only that, but Nero currently has the strength to match both Dante and his Brother. Hence why Nero was not only able to hold BOTH of them back when charging at each other full force, but also thoroughly kick Vergil's ass.
lol Same. When I first saw him taunting me during the fight I did a double take and was like “Wait! Is-is he taunting me? Seriously?!” Needless to say I was surprised but found it quite humorous.
My favorite detail in this scene is when Dante stabs Rebellion into the ground and twists his hand, mocking Nero. It's a subtle but cocky little detail perfectly suiting Dante's character. They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but in this case it's the sincerest form of disrespect.
Nero punching Dante so he launches away, running so fast that he catches up to him midair, then grabbing him and punching his head into the floor is so fucking awesome and the best part is this series does crazy shit like that all the time
Just noticed, now that the timeline's changed, where DMC2 takes place before 4, I'm starting to notice how his attitude changes over the course of the fight. He goes from the quiet, cold demon hunter from 2, to the slightly jovial, smacktalking demon hunter from 1 and 3 as he starts putting the pieces together, realizing Nero's related to him somehow.
@Ignatius David Partogi A descendant of Sparda... "Looks like you too are a descendant of Sparda." That seems like it would fit the bill to me. So yes, it still works. Thank you for not looking for other potential alternatives.
I remember playing this game first time after Dmc Devil May Cry. My reaction to game basically saying "So yeah Dante is your tutorial boss, Good luck!" was so funny.
00:39 Lmao old Nero was so emo " I will fight you" towards stranger now he's telling them he can can join them for his wifey's favorite meal, truely an upgrade
I like how Dante's characters grow throughout the games (albeit some is caused by inconsistency of the writers). In DMC 3 (chronogically the first installment) Dante is kinda punkish and not as composed as his older version. In DMC original, he becomes more composed but still funny and playful. In DMC 2, he becomes more stoic. This is due to the writing's consistency but if we look at it deeply, this is the same Dante who killed Nelo Angelo/Vergil in previous installment. Maybe he's still in grief. DMC 4 is sugar Daddy Dante. Obviously he's already more experienced to the point that anything barely flinches him anymore. You could tell he could defeat the entire Order of Sword by himself but chooses to give Nero some spotlight. DMC 5 is peak Dante. He doesn't even think twice to kill Urizen when he eats the Qlipoth fruit, knowing that Urizen is beyond redemption without his human side. It hurts him deeply but he bear it so Nero wouldn't have to kill his father.

There hasn't been one DMC game where Dante doesn't get stabbed by his own sword
