You have to realize that De Niro is one of the most method actors in Hollywood. So when he found out he was supposed to dislike Stiller’s character he would only appear that way off camera and in other appearances. De Niro is supposed to appear aloof around Stiller’s character so he always appears that way around him being a method actor.
If you see the bloopers reel you will see how much fun De Niro had
