The thing I love most about this scene is just how much it makes everyone remember that in all the re games, the monsters you are killing were people before. All those hundreds of zombies you slaughtered were all Jack Bakers in their own right.

I don't think they're going through any pain, Eveline changes their minds, they're not the same anymore, therefore they can't feel guilty or anything. Jack lost his body and his normal mind probably was sent to the "hive mind" or something

Funny how Jack is usually seen as the "Loud and talkitive" type, yet he is so quite during the cutscene. It's enigmatic almost.

Playing this part in VR was AMAZING. I was sitting on a couch and could have swore that he was sitting right there in front of me. you can put your face right up to him when he is talking its so freaky.

@@mothman8721 actually it's revealed that Lucas was never infected, he's immune. He only acted like he was under Eveline's control so that she wouldn't take over his life. All the fucked up things he does in the game are of his own free will

With the End of Zoe dlc, this scene has a bit more added to it as to why Margaruitte wasn't present. When I saw this scene I assumed it was because they were both dead and that's why Zoe seemed pissed cuz she blames Ethan but no, it's because at this point she's still Calcified. But at this very point in time, they're both still alive. The End of Zoe confirms this.
Then I'd be safe to assume that Marguerite is officially dead, since she falls apart as soon as she's calcified.
I wonder if the reason Lucas isn’t in this part was due to him being given an serum to free him from Eveline’s control, but keeping the mold mutations.
This hit me in the feels harder than Hulk was slamming Loki in the 1st Avengers movie.

“Free my family... please...” I love the voice acting, and this game overall. This has to be one of my favorite Resident Evil games, amazing voice acting, a great story, great, realistic characters, just a fantastic bunch. 9/10
It is a faithfully true renaissance of what the Resident Evil series started as. A great story, unique puzzles, and some zombie killing mixed in.
I like the fact that even tho Jack and his family is taken hostage from eveline he still defends her in kind of a way

God damn, the impact of this scene. I would have gone on hating the entire family 100% if this hadn't happened. Then, they just let you know, at the perfect moment, that they aren't evil. Just... infected. And that they aren't just gone, they're... they're still there, inside. That scene hurt.
Tyler Mcrae you can still hate Lucas though. He wasn’t infected the entire game. He was given the serum a long time ago, the company that created Eveline gave him it so he can keep tabs on his family. Sooo yes, he’s still a murderer.

He's just a quiet man and a good father. He went out of his way during a flood to save Eveline, not for a reward but because it was right. Damn sad what happened to the family.
WatchGirlsPlay had the worst reaction. So apathetic during one of the most emotional scenes. Even her reasoning behind choosing between Zoe and Mia was shallow. Kinda went like: “Well Zoe helped us a lot but Mia has better hair so screw you country girl!”. Yes it’s a video game, but the best reactors/reactions occur when they try to relate and understand the game itself
Jonathan Pascual I know. The true emotions come from how the player reacts to these situations and revelations within the story. Watchgirlsplay just went off the rails and was heartless about such a emotional scene. This scene made me tear up when I played this.

Southern accents of ANY KIND make things sound so much more sincere and this cutscene hurts the soul so much. Ryan is so understanding as well because some of the games he plays on his channel always show that the killers and antagonists aren't alway bad

To clarify: This is a characterization of Lucas Baker that we see in the game multiple times, and not a reflection of how I view those with mental health problems or conditions. “Insane” is clearly how the writers wanted us to perceive him, even before Evelyn in the story made all the other Bakers go out of control.
Horror loves to demonize the mentally ill, and this story got crafty by conveniently introducing both the fact this character had existing mental illness, and the supernatural mold/virus that made everyone else go insane at the same time. It makes it hard to tease out whether the representation is truly negative, as he can be seen from a sympathetic or non sympathetic lens.
We only see glimpses of pre-mold/“non-insane” Lucas. That’s for a reason.

I meant this comment more in terms of how Lucas as a character is shown in the narrative, and how he is played to be perceived by the audience. They want us to give him that label, hence all the hints about his brain scans and such. Horror loves demonizing the mentally ill, so it’s no surprise.
The writers’ purposefully made Lucas be on a whole other level of “crazy” even before Evelyn showed up. So unlike the other characters in the Baker household, his mental issues started before the supernatural element used to explain the erratic behavior of the family was introduced.
This story really pulled a sneaky on us because it let a character be labeled as insane, while also having legitimate mental issues that aren’t directly being belittled by said label. I actually think Jack Baker is supposed to showing a hint of denial here as a grieving father, as he probably knows Lucas is a bit different, but knows that doesn’t make him bad.
We naturally want to blame the mold, the virus, Evelyn, for the Lucas we get in the game, and for all the affected Bakers we see in general. Lucas pre-mold had manageable mental issues, and was even getting help. Yet, we also know Lucas was probably more predisposed to certain behaviors even before the mold became a factor.
That’s the same thing that can be said for everyone, but then we also have evidence Lucas reacted differently to the virus than his relatives. We actually see that he seems to have some areas of “immunity” to it too, even talking to and defying Evelyn! I think this is because his mental issues gave him some unique quirks when infected.
Thus, it becomes a real chicken or the egg scenario when we say he is “insane”. Is it because of his mental issues to begin with? Or did the supernatural fictional virus make things get so out of hand and exacerbate his behavior like it did with the other Bakers?
In that respect they handled Lucas Baker amazingly as a character, more like dodged a bullet, really... and avoided having him be “insane” simply because of his mental condition.
Great voice acting. You can just hear how defeated and broken and hopeless he is😞👌🏼

I must admit Jack Baker is kind of one of my favourite RE antagonists. Especially in this scene. The way he and his family (except for Lucas) seem genuinely good-hearted people. I kind of wonder Lucas was not only messed up but he also has an obsession with raccoon city.

Man, what a fantastic scene. Really puts into perspective that they were victims in all this too. Not to mention how talented Jack's voice actor is here-he pulled off all the psycho bits convincingly yet has the range to make this scene come off genuine and heartfelt. Awesome stuff.

This part is very sad
It's not just the Bakers... even Eveline is a victim here. Like I commented on another vídeo, Eveline is a rather tragic character. I mean, she just wanted to have a family, and she act the way she is, because she's technically only 3 years old, so she doesn't completely understands how the world works, and she does all that evil stuff because of that.
It just goes to show how amazingly deep the plot of this game is, and that the true villains are the people behind The Connections, and it baffles me how people can't see that.

I think one of the saddest things is I think the real Jack is completely conscious even if Eveline is in control. He knows and sees everything he’s doing. At spots during the game, I think he even tries to resist. While chasing Ethan, Jack will sometime say “Don’t stop, keep running” The real Jack pushes through just enough to urge Ethan to get away from him.

In the second part to this, half the guys don't even listen. One of them even asks, "Who's Eveline?" It has nothing to do with gender. Some girls are great, some aren't. Same with every gamer.
