As someone from the eastern shore, this brings me immense joy in seeing someone showcase our little part of Maryland so well. I’m so used to only hearing about Baltimore and Annapolis. Thank you so much for coming here and enjoying our little slice of heaven with us. ❤️
I live on the eastern shore and I think the only thing people know about it is the eastern shore I’m glad they showed other people what the eastern shore truly is.
The crab cakes and the people are what I miss the most about living in Crisfield. I think Kara and Nate really captured the spirit of that area perfectly.
I’ve really been loving your recent direction of people oriented episodes, meeting locals of different places. I think you guys have really hit on something with this format.
What I'm loving about these 50 State vlogs is that you're really getting to show the real unfiltered USA! I think one of the main misconceptions about our country to those who are not from here is that it's pretty much the same from coast to coast. The people are the same, the food the same, etc. But nothing could be further from the truth! We are a country of regions, and each one has it's own unique personality. To me, that's one of the best things about the US. Maryland is the state immediately below mine and I love seeing it through your eyes. ❤️
#truth!!! And I love it. Most people who have never traveled to smaller towns or like people don’t know this. I appreciate small towns and the people are like family even though we are all strangers.
I’m from Maryland and this warmed my heart. The accent never gets old. The work ethic of these folks is unmatched. Hope you got some Boogs barbecue right around the corner form Thrashers
I've lived in Maryland all my life and this was the best 48 hours I've seen. I parrot Dark Ruins in that the chemistry they have with each other, and ppl they meet, makes this channel. I wish I could give multiple likes! Just discovered your channel; smashing the subscribe button now.
One of the things that makes this travel series so enjoyable is that you are truly approaching this from a journalistic point of view. I love the fact that you are able to tap into these authentic experiences with the locals. I think the greatest benefit of traveling is that you never return home the same as before you left.
I was watching another #vanlife channel today and was thinking about why Kara and Nate are so much more captivating than other travel channels and I realized it’s because all their videos tell a story. It’s not just a vlog (which is fine and I still enjoy, but I digress). So incredibly talented! Thanks for doing what you do, guys. I truly look forward to your stories every week :)
I had a friend (unfortunately she is no longer with us) who was a brittle diabetic, she made the most incredible cheese cakes but couldn't even taste the batter! Just working with the ingredients would cause wild swings in her blood sugars! Absolutely would not listen to any warnings...Bev, so glad you are at peace and making heaven so much sweeter!
As a born-and-raised shorebilly from the Maryland eastern shore, you did a great job showcasing my home state! Now I'm living out west so watching this gave me all the feels, it was a perfect tour of my old stomping grounds. I can't wait to go back and get thrashers fries, dumsers ice cream, and ma's crab cakes!!
My grandmother just passed away 2 days ago and my sister is in the hospital. Your positivity and interaction with people in the video literally took away my sadness, even if it was just for 20 mins. I hope you guys know how much your videos mean to me💓 Thank you to the best travel couple!

I loved watching this! I lived in Maryland for 3 years, when I was stationed there, in the Army, many years ago. Maryland, and it’s people are wonderful. I really appreciated you showcasing the special things about Maryland. I am originally from Texas, live in Florida and just found your channel. I, like you, decided I wanted to travel and see the world before I settled down. Travel vlogging was not an option 30 years ago, so I joined the Army right after law school. Within 6 months of graduation I was living in Germany. Traveled all over Europe , Asia and North Africa during that time. Still go back once in a while. The next phase of my career, after I left active duty, has taken me all over Central and South America. I am still traveling monthly to that part of the world for at least a week, with an opportunity to live in Mexico City for two years. I love watching you because I feel like I’m traveling to some of my favorite places in the world I have traveled. Now because of you two, I have new places on my bucket list, starting with North Pole and Antártica. I feel like I’m watching my kids following in my footsteps. WHEW! I didn't think my first comment on your channel would be so emotional. I'm currently having a very bad mental health day. Lowest in a while. So I came to YT to distract myself. As has become the norm recently, your channel is my go-to. I watched Kara's 30th Castle Birthday and this video popped right after. I instantly busted out in tears. A little history- I lost my Dad in 2010 to cancer. He was my hero and my twin in all things. I miss him every single day. His Mom and Dad, with their 9 kids were born and raised in Crisfield, MD. I literally spent my entire childhood being regaled by countless stories of Crisfield culture, history, and cuisine from my Mom-Mom, Pop-Pop, aunts, and uncles. At 8 years old, my parents gave my sister and I the option of Disney World or Crisfield. I emphatically chose Crisfield, something my little sister was extremely salty about for a long time. 😅 All that being said, this video popping up was absolutely like all of those family members who've past away, saying "We're here. As a homegrown Marylander I have been eagerly awaiting this vlog! I’m only 5 minutes in and had to comment - I can’t stop beaming. I love our state and am so glad you enjoyed it, too. Assateague is one of my favorite places in the world ❤️💛🖤
My late father was born and raised in Cambridge where I still have many family members. AsA child I always loved visiting my eastern shore family during summer vacations.
*Id love to know how you two have SUCH a fun loving, romantic relationship having being together 24/7/365 and endure the travel stress that take a toll on you both!* How did you find each other so perfectly?! I can't believe the strength of your relationship. Your hearts are so big.
I agree they seem perfect together and they make me smile every video. And I’m not saying they are not perfect but almost nothing is so in this world, their are up and downs to everything. I assume that they have their fare share of arguments and struggles but why would they put private things like that on the internet ? Remember we only get to see 25 minutes of their entire 168 hour week.
After watching their videos for the last few months, esp the van life ones,, I finally decided to watch from the beginning. If you find a video from Feb 14, 2016 they answer fan questions. It's great that they are high school sweethearts.
I never really leave comments but I come back to this video on bad days, it just makes my heart happy. This and the Louisiana one. You guys are at your most bright when you're meeting locals. I love you guys, thank you for getting me through the worst six months of my life
I read “Misty of Chincoteague” when I was a kid. About a wild pony on an island in what is now the Assateague National Reserve, Maryland. And Pa is cute but Ma is a force!
Yes. I’m surprised Kara & Nate didn’t know about that book, or movie. It was the first thing I thought of when they said they were going to an island in Maryland.
I wish my great uncle was still alive and had his store still up and running. He had one of 2 restaurants on the island. His was not fancy by any means but the best food you’ll ever eat
Their accent is the same as folks from the Outer Banks in NC. It’s a dialect called “Brogue” and originated from Irish settlers who came over hundreds of years ago.
One year later, of all your videos, this has got to be one of my favorites!!! As DarkRuins commented, “ the chemistry that Kara had with [“Ma”] is legendary”!!! I didn’t know about Dwight’s passing, absolutely breaks my heart😢🙏
I really love that they are allowing nature/wild life to remain as that and not being quick to tend to them. I feel like when we all attempt to lend a hand to animals in the wild we mess with how it naturally adapts to its actual life. Like for examples getting in the middle of prey and the predator
Just wanted to thank you guys for supporting me and giving me entertainment during Covid/quarantine! I still remember the first video I watched! One of my favorite series was the bike trail in Colorado which was great and showed and taught me a lot about bravery! Thanks Kara & Nate!
I don't even know how to feel... but watching 'Ma' stress out Kara and be both terrifying and hilarious was... something. And like *cue Kara putting on a tap dance show of celebration for how yummy everything was - out of fear and submission to the Reign of Ma* was ENTIRELY relatable.
How good is this? As an Australian watching your adventures in your own country, you are giving a great insight into the country, the life, the people and having a fun time! Please keep going!!!!
I was born and raised in Baltimore City. After 1 semester at Dundalk Comm. College, I had it with city life and moved downee Ocean. Life has been so much simpler and wonderful. Cross the bay and take a right off of 50 or a left. So many places to visit at a slower pace.
I love the wild horses there. And funny story. I was working in VA for awhile and went to Ocean City and walked down the boardwalk to get some of those fries, minus the vinegar. And my husband called me and said you look hot in those shorts. I was like huh? He had found a webcam in the boardwalk and saw me walk by. He was in SC. I absolutely love this memory because I lost my sweet husband in 2014 and miss him so much. So glad you had fun in the DelMarVa area.
I love the feelings of inspiration and “make your own fun” that I get from your vlogs. ❤️ You two are on my top five list of people I’d love to have lunch with! 😁
My son and I tent camped on the beach with our medium size rescue dog. Was amazing waking up to wild horses surrounding our site. They had no fear of our dog and we even have video of them walking together. People really need to help keep them safe and healthy by keeping food away and staying back. Glad you had a chance to enjoy.
Thrashers fries is delicious I’m glad you went there my family runs it !! The other famous things on the boardwalk is the saltwater taffy. And the fishers popcorn
You could do a whole series on Maryland! OC is an icon, of course. But Maryland is known for being a little tiny America. We have the coasts, beautiful mountains and sprawling cities. Plus, we could have every kind of weather in just a week! Snow on Sunday, rain Monday afternoon, then sunny days in flip-flops by Wednesday! I would love to see you guys come back and experience more in the future!
I've had a fascination with Assateague and Chincoteague and the wild horses for a while. Love that you guys did this! Hope to see you in Chincoteague next! ❤
Love this episode! Jamie’s mom sounds just like my aunts and uncles, all from Baltimore! Brings me right back to Grandma’s house eating crabs with Old Bay... can’t wait to go back 😋🥰
I am thoroughly enjoying the interviews/conversations with locals all over the US. It gives us a glimpse of actual US lives to those of us not in the US. Your international travels are great but this is amazing. Mostly because you seem to be invested yourselves in learning about your own country.
I still don't count your cross over the CA border as a trip to CA...😂You really need to come see the state...the beach, the cities, the mountains, the prairies...
You’ve never had a crab cake until you’ve had a Maryland crab cake! Thank you for showing the shore when you came to Maryland and not just Baltimore. Signed a Delmarva local
My boyfriend lives in Delmarva (Seaford, Delaware), so that's really the only part of Maryland/Delaware that I've had the good fortune of spending time. Love Rehoboth Beach and Ocean City. Still would like to see Baltimore outside of the airport, which is actually in Linthicium (I may be writing that wrong). Such a historic city. With growing up in Colorado and living in California for over 30 years, it's fun to see these places that have so much more history. Yes, Colorado and California have history, but the east coast has that history dating back to the 1700s. Also, such a different beach culture between California and Maryland/Delaware. And Thrashers fries are pretty awesome. Dolles and Grottos Pizzeria are pretty great, too, if you're in the area. And don't forget Candy Kitchen!
The best day of the week! I love your videos. I have followed you for a long time and I have noticed your progress. I feel like I am watching something famous documentary. Keep up the good work! Greetings from Finland! 😊

My late father was born and raised in Cambridge where I still have many family members. AsA child I always loved visiting my eastern shore family during summer vacations.
Assateague in mid summer is the experience of getting eaten alive. It’s hell
*Id love to know how you two have SUCH a fun loving, romantic relationship having being together 24/7/365 and endure the travel stress that take a toll on you both!* How did you find each other so perfectly?! I can't believe the strength of your relationship. Your hearts are so big.
I second this!
@@ftgv1 that si very very true! I want to know if they fight, what they fight about, and how they work it out or make up?
@@emmab.9435 let's thumbs this up so it gets attention and they can address it!
After watching their videos for the last few months, esp the van life ones,, I finally decided to watch from the beginning. If you find a video from Feb 14, 2016 they answer fan questions. It's great that they are high school sweethearts.
No one:
Ma: “no pressure but hurry it up”
Great video! I’ve lived in Maryland my entire life and absolutely love it here, Maryland has something for literally everyone.
Dude I read it too and the sequel stormy misty' foal. So enjoyed seeing video of this unique place!
That book is actually based on Chincoteague island in VA / Chincoteague Wildlife refuge which is the Virginia side of Assateague.
Thank you for this! I'm southern and I thought their accent sounded A LOT like ours down here! Was v confused
@@savannahroberts7633 parts of Maryland away from the cities is the South, it’s below the Mason Dixon line
Yeah barely any of us sound like that
@@jnels2007 Well sure but when I think South I think deep south, like the actual lower half of the US.
Seeing these smaller, out of the way places has been so much fun. This episode cracked me up so many times with Ma. 😉😅
Ma is so funny oh my god. “You made that right up” 😂😂
Just wanted to thank you guys for supporting me and giving me entertainment during Covid/quarantine! I still remember the first video I watched! One of my favorite series was the bike trail in Colorado which was great and showed and taught me a lot about bravery! Thanks Kara & Nate!
Hello my friend
I don't even know how to feel... but watching 'Ma' stress out Kara and be both terrifying and hilarious was... something. And like *cue Kara putting on a tap dance show of celebration for how yummy everything was - out of fear and submission to the Reign of Ma* was ENTIRELY relatable.
How good is this? As an Australian watching your adventures in your own country, you are giving a great insight into the country, the life, the people and having a fun time! Please keep going!!!!
Nate crying laughing in the background of cooking that cake 😂😂😂😂
Seriously, honestly, from the bottom of my heart, this is the best channel on youtube.
I had no idea Smith Island existed. I’ve lived in Baltimore my whole life. Everything is so different outside of this place wow
the other side of the bridge is a diffrent story
I was born and raised in Baltimore City. After 1 semester at Dundalk Comm. College, I had it with city life and moved downee Ocean. Life has been so much simpler and wonderful. Cross the bay and take a right off of 50 or a left. So many places to visit at a slower pace.
Same!! I had no idea
Yeah I never knew it existed either I've been going to Ocean City for years (actually ever since I was in the womb)
I wish they would’ve gone to Deep Creek. I think they would’ve loved going there to the mountains.
I miss this!!!!!! My people.
After all that with “Maryland State” cake Nate, you blundered and called the cake Smith Island in the end 🤣🤣🤣😂😂
I was like, isn’t it a Maryland state cake.....?😂😂🤣
We call it a Smith Island cake here in Maryland.
@@karens.368 Are you saying Ma gave Kara all that grief for nothing? 😂
I lived in Crisfield and we always called it Smith Island cake.
I love the feelings of inspiration and “make your own fun” that I get from your vlogs. ❤️ You two are on my top five list of people I’d love to have lunch with! 😁
Loving the attitude Nate used when he said " Were Kara and Nate"
Beautiful attitude
My favourite Episode. I love your work (all of it) but I just fell in love with Smith Island. Old style hospitality. Great K&N xxxx
I live in Maryland that would have been so cool to see you :(
Hello my friend how are you doing
Sameeee
Same
Same
I love Ma, she’s a riot! Born and raised in Maryland. I think I’m due for a trip to Smith Island to try her crab cakes :)
Thrashers fries is delicious I’m glad you went there my family runs it !! The other famous things on the boardwalk is the saltwater taffy. And the fishers popcorn
We actually know the Marshall family and we go to boat docking! There an awesome family! The horses are awesome!
Kara you are just getting roasted by ma!! i’m finding this very funny right now 😂😂
YAAAAS BEETY GOT NOTICEDDDDD
I've had a fascination with Assateague and Chincoteague and the wild horses for a while. Love that you guys did this! Hope to see you in Chincoteague next! ❤
Love this episode! Jamie’s mom sounds just like my aunts and uncles, all from Baltimore! Brings me right back to Grandma’s house eating crabs with Old Bay... can’t wait to go back 😋🥰
so cool to see people from our small community be noticed the marshall family is such a nice family super kind to everyone
It makes me SO happy to see people exploring where I grew up!!!
“what in the devil what kinda board?” lol 😂😂
comedic gold. LOL
This woman is a national treasure. She must be protected at all costs.
@@thelady7226 AGREED.
Those crab cakes look so good. What an experience!
Loved Nate's attempt at the intro 😂
🤣🤣🤣
That was funny 😂
Hello my friend I also love them
I am thoroughly enjoying the interviews/conversations with locals all over the US. It gives us a glimpse of actual US lives to those of us not in the US. Your international travels are great but this is amazing. Mostly because you seem to be invested yourselves in learning about your own country.
Working my way through your year old content. Lovin’ it!
Exactly people over look Delmarva and when I saw the board walk I was like they actually care about where they go
My boyfriend lives in Delmarva (Seaford, Delaware), so that's really the only part of Maryland/Delaware that I've had the good fortune of spending time.
I was honestly hoping they would try scrapple on camera while they were here
@@bamazur22 My boyfriend's trying to get me to try that. I may break down and actually do it sometime.
Love making my way through Delmarva on my way to one of my favorite places in the world - Virginia Beach! Signed a Nutmegger (CT native).
Hi! When y’all come to PA make sure to check out Gettysburg and Hershey they have many fun things to do 😁
I love how Nate wakes up Kara it’s so sweet!
Wow...
Such humble people in Smith island !
Your BEST video EVER !!! 👏👏👏

The best day of the week! I love your videos. I have followed you for a long time and I have noticed your progress. I feel like I am watching something famous documentary. Keep up the good work! Greetings from Finland! 😊

This ep was hilarious!! Kara cooking with ma was amazing, 'I assemble things...charcuterie boards' haha
Smith Island seems like the perfect setting for a charming novel 😍
van life kara and nate is so funny to me. y'all did the most random things and looked like you were having so much fun while simultaneously being on the brink of losing your minds. i love it.
ocean city hits close to home, my whole child hood since i was BORN i was at my grandmother and grandfathers house a few years go they moved and we haven’t gone ever since. i remember the ferris wheel i went on countless times, and the caterpillar, you really made my day
"I was thinking they smelled a bit ready" 🤣
LOL that was so funny and sweet at the same time!😄❤My son's name is also Marek! Cheers from Canada🤗
@@fabienneroure9995 love that! Any connection to Poland? 😄 Greetings From Georgia! 🇬🇪
@@SarahandMarek No connection to Poland but I love the name! I'm originally from Provence, the south of France (my father is French my mother is Greek) and moved to Canada when I was a little girl. I live in Ontario right at the Québec border so there are lot of French speaking people. I wanted my son to have a name that sounded good in English as well as in French and not too common (around here anyway!) so Marek was the perfect choice! Sending you blessings from a sunny Canadian day!🙂
I have been waiting so long for this one!! Thank you for doing my state justice 🖤💛❤️🤍
Kara’s energy is sooo contagious! Between the food reviews and the singing while horse hunting... Hilarious!
The way Ma talks reminds me so much of Levon Helm's character in Shooter. I kept waiting for her to say, "hey, gunnie!"
Best vlog ever. Thanx for the smiles and laughs from Australia. And we even got a mention. Blessed 🙏🧡🥰
how are you doing
Y’all are the best
Also PLS wait to go to New Hampshire/Vermont until it’s fall!! The foliage there is some of the best, and the Kancamagus Highway in NH through the White Mountains is stunning. The drone shots would be incredible
I always feel a kinship with New Hampshire when I go there. It’s definitely at its prettiest in fall
Love the Monty Python and Steve Irwin references!!! And now that Nate has some crab fishing experience he needs to pull some pots on a Deadliest Catch crab boat in Alaska👍
I lived in ocean city for 3 months when I was a student, I also saw the wild horses :)
maryland is so underrated thank you for coming and posting on your channel for people to see hows maryland.
I love wild horses! If you go to north Carolina they have them there too! Same thing they are protected and they think they were there because of a Spanish boat. Beautiful animals.
