Greetings from the west of Ireland....positivity is so important...I am 70years young...everyday we wake up is wonderful...my life has been very challenging ...and it seems nobody escapes life's ups and downs...one day at a time is a helpful approach.....today was good for me...plenty of tasks ..chores..5 KLM walk...put ten barrow loads of timber logs in the shed...did a little crochet...thank you for your chat today....
I realized that at this age I had to be the instigator of social contact rather than waiting for someone to invite me out for a social activity. I have set myself a goal of contacting someone for a social outing once a week, whether it’s lunch , a coffee or a movie, it doesn’t matter as long as I get that single meaningful social contact a week. In between I can do the zoom cal,S and emails but I need to get out of the house too.
I agree with you, Margaret. I too think gyms are stressful. I'm 66 and I tried aquacize but because of osteoporosis I hurt for 3 days after even tho I loved the water. I'm retired, home with my husband, who lives on his computer, I need a social life, I'm out of practice because of Covid ending my job. It's like starting over. My friends all live far away, no one close, and we're estranged from our son, which includes grandkids, so seeing your videos and advice are very uplifting to me. Thank you for all you do! ❤
I am 68 and finances are very challenging for me. Retirement is not an option as I cannot live on Social Security alone. Like you, Margaret, I am in a studio apartment, and so grateful I downsized and decluttered 18 months ago. The process was mentally and physically exhausting but well worth the effort. I work two part-time jobs which is OK by me. I only need an extra $1000 a month to make ends meet, but that’s not enough. I work extra to shore up my little nest egg/emergency fund. Your videos are always inspiring and give me things to review and think about in my life.
Seems like it’s time to CLEAN my canvas, declutter completely, downsize and go off into this world like I was as a little girl! And I like you so much by the way.
Brilliant!! Am reading Atomic Habits atm - it makes a lot of sense and a lot of difference. I congratulate you on making a positive change. Very inspiring. 😊
Thank you. Yes , friends, so very important. My mother is 83 and I’m sad to say she basically has no friends. My advice to her is make the call, make the effort to have a friend. Don’t wait for someone to call you. It’s ok to take the role of the one that reaches out. It’s ok. That’s what I do! Also, please if you need friends, remember this,,, if you are lonely, you’re not the only one! There’s tons of lonely people just like you! Make a call, go to a group,,, get yourself out there. Someone is waiting for you ! 💕💕💕much love to this group of ladies.
It's not that easy if you live in a small town and you have very little in common in the social groups. I find it difficult to sit in their groups and not be physically active. Its very different in larger places. Keep smiling
Hi Margaret! I have found that myself and friends have some physical setbacks but we are always there for each other. A beautiful support system! To have a friend is to be a friend. We all have this beautiful life to live. Appreciate what you have. Feeling blessed for the everyday things makes me happy.
I walk outside on the sidewalk, doctors orders. AND :), I recently added my little two pound weights while walking, doing what I call "cheerleaders arms", switching it up throughout. Building this tiny bit of upper body strength and flexibility has changed my life!! I have seen a deer eating from a pear tree, two deer frolicking, house cats, people walking dogs, squirrels, birds, plus the fresh air. It is spiritually uplifting! Some days, I am reluctant, but once I am out there, I am great. Sometimes I start with a tune on my earbuds to help my energy level. It works!
Thankyou Margaret. Thank you for being so open and honest. You made me laugh when describing your grandchildren playing with your upper arm. When my grandson was 2 he was playing with his toys on the floor and I was standing at the sink. He looked up and said...." Nanna, you have a big bottom" It's funny at 2 but he is now 15 and wouldn't get the same response from me if he said it now. 😄
Thank you for another really useful video, Margaret. It's so helpful to point out that most of us are just getting along trying to live our best lives on a low income, and life can be good with some practical strategies and a different attitude. It's easy to watch videos about what we 'should' be doing - all those ones on the astronomical figures we should have saved for our retirement, if any of us had been doing jobs that allowed for that. The reality is that most of us have worked in jobs throughout our lives, even professional jobs, where our income just covered our costs or if we managed to save a bit we have times in our lives when we need to spend it. It's a very lucky person who has a pension that reflects our working salary every month with none of the costs of going out to work. So, we have to live a life that fits with what we have. That's doesn't mean living poorly in any way, but living a rich life within our means with interests and friends and viewing change as a positive. Take care. x
Great attitude!! I like the contentment that I have in retirement - I like not having to rush - I like spending time with people that I like - I find that I get the most enjoyment from things that are free or next to nothing. Library books, exercise classes, dvds (sooo inexpensive now). Margaret’s community is such a lovely place to find likeminded people who support you or inspire you - like yourself. Thank you for posting - I can relate 😊
A very wise spiritual person I know once said if you imagine it your are there. There is so much on the internet about travel, poetry, live theatre, plays, ballet, audio books, hobbies and beauty and health …so much and of course your wonderfully supportive channel Margaret. Even if you can’t afford it, you can do these things and be there in your imagination. Parks and forest are free. Window shopping is fun. Exercise gently from RUclips videos. Qi Gong, tai chi, gentle seated yoga for seniors…there’s so so much.
I really enjoyed your video so much. I laughed when I think about my arms as well. I lift weights but there's still wobbly bits. I found that I like to draw especially nature . It's early spring in Australia and there's an abundance of things to try to duplicate. I'm a widow of ten years and I'm celebrating my solitude with yoga, walking and gardening. It's time to celebrate our life with all the physical changes. Forget about the wrinkles and be happy.
I just discovered your channel last week and have benefited from many of your videos already. Thank you Margaret! One of the things I would add to your list is to take classes at the local college or university. Many schools offer free (or very low tuition) to seniors. I took 2 art classes this fall. I learned so much and really enjoyed the relationship with the students. Teachers LOVE having senior students in their classes.
Thank you for this video. Great advice! My motto lately is that I can do anything for 5 minutes. Then 5 minutes goes to 10, etc. Motivation propels more motivation. Anyway, I thought you looked exceptionally beautiful and younger. You are a wonderful person who is inspiring and so upbeat. Thank you. Hugs. 🥰
This year I came across the 50-30-20 rule for budgeting your income. It's so simple and I have found it effective. The 50 stands for 50% of your monthly income that covers Essentials e.g. rent, heat, phone, lights, groceries. The 30 stands for 30% or less for your Lifestyle choices e.g. eating out, haircuts, clothing, beauty aids, hobby and craft materials, cell phone, vitamins. The 20% or more stands for Savings. So in a $3000 monthly budget, that would allow $1500 for Essentials, $900 for Lifestyle, and $600 for Savings. It feels good to see my nest egg growing and it gives a certain peace of mind to know I can handle a financial emergency.
I found, as you say, Margaret, that it is important to make a start and increase gradually until it becomes a habit. I did this with gentle yoga and now my day does not feel right without doing this for my body. I found an instructor on line who matched my needs and did not try to tie me in knots :) It has made such a difference in my life on many levels: strength, flexibility, balance, serenity.
And so at 74, Lady Mag's ,I rather do immensely 😉 enjoy the daily chime in with you and all our sisters on board. A simple torching base is a truly meaningful fond reach out for so many...a loving hand ...a soft touch that inspires the ' as you go about your day' to progress to its best fruition. Gratitude for just showing up with all the enormous effort that entails; the background effort required that so oft goes unacknowledged. Well...One global standing applause for you Lady Margaret and heartfelt request...'Encore!!!' Ensui vas la vie..Bien sur...en 🌹 rose...love from Canada 🇨🇦 ♥️
I appreciate your kind, caring, compassionate spirit and insightful encouragement. Thank you for sharing your vulnerability. I chuckled and related when you mentioned your attempts at participating in a gym. My soul prefers outdoor walking where I connect with nature. You are a blessing and gift to all of us. Thanks!
Some people reach 70 and have no physical impediments to mobility, others are not so fortunate. I have OA in both knees so walking for me is painful for any time or distance. Otherwise I manage well and have coped with it now for 20 years. We all reach our 60's and 70's and further with different abilities, some much more fortunate than others. So count your blessings if arthritis is not part of daily life.😊
I’m the same. It’s upsetting if you love being active and just can’t do what you want to do. I just walk as far as I can each day and if I get sore I just don’t walk.
Margaret, I love your videos! I am 64, newly widowed, and working through finding what my new life will be. Your videos have helped me so much and you are an inspiration! Thank you!
Btw,,, I love the gym for the exercise classes,,, you can meet people and work at your own pace! I’m 63 and I feel happier when I’m with people and exercising
now i have become a serious subscriber! I love this content! Yes all of my life I have not liked the gym- the smells unique to them give me anxiety-flashbacks to junior high and mean girls! :) I will look forward to videos DAILY!!!
Thanks for the great ideas. senior citizens can even join some courses in university of their interest as a result of which they will be having company of youngsters .
I so agree with all your suggestions…and I practice them all. I’ve also found that I now have time for ME and I’m learning to pamper myself a bit more in small ways, that really do make a big difference.
Good for you. You are taking good care of yourself and you need to make yourself feel special now and then - it’s all part of ‘well being’ 🧘♀️ Far better than slipping into self-pity and neglect. Thank you for your inspiring post. 😊
Hello lovely lady! I've noticed you get a lot of views, but not as many Likes come on peeps it's a 1 second thing please like when you view... its good stuff very well deserving of a thumbs up!!❤❤❤ Lots of Love to all!
Your videos have inspired me to have a happier and healthier life. I feel grateful for all the beautiful things I still have rather than what I have lost.
Thank you! I worry more about my body outliving my brain than my money. I've learned to live with no toys other than my stereo and my sewing machine. And to thrift just about everything else! I get no salon services, I cut my hair straight across and put it back or up. The price of salon services...gasp!
Hey Margaret. Love your channel and your style. Is your sofa a pull out? Just curious because imo it would seem that at our age we need room to stretch out and be comfortable.
Lots of good advice there Margaret, thank you 🥰. By the way I received my little crossbody phone bag that you showed us the other day from Temu. I love it!
I Love this community… I am in USA.. I have thoughts of living overseas… preferably Europe or Australia. You mentioned social security.. I’ve been told if living overseas the social security benefits from USA can’t be deposited in foreign accounts. Will you touch more on that in the future. Thank you.
Margaret thank you for these 6 strategies for life. I so needed to hear this. Very simple and durable. I am a person who just likes to stay home and become very anxious when leaving my home. There are special someone always with me and my faith in Jesus ❤ I have you too and am thankful for that ! Have a beautiful and blessed day pretty woman 🌹
Agoraphobia is not uncommon, dearheart,. Not at all. As Lady Margaret says....one minute at a time...assuredly. One step at time, one friend walking with for 1 minute at a time. So happy you have found comfort in Jesus. Does not the Bible say you have a friend in Jesus? Then why not...grab his hand and walk in the faith and so given comfort and unconditional loving friendship for one minute at a time when ever you feel the faith come upon you...let's all hear back from you when you do that one minute ... blessings, Sweetie...and I know you are going to take that faithful and tell us folks all where to go...❤️ you girl,! Stong be as will be done.
Shine !!! ⭐ Cherries on Top 🍒 of Best Vid of the Year. At 63 going on 64 - I am beyond Grateful for all of the encouragement & positivity. I wanna be You when I grow up 😊 Thank you Much ❤
well its certainly not true for me, at 63..i dont want or need ANYONE in my life, i am a witch and thrive in my own company and my dear animals, but weak women desperatlly need others, lol, i do not, but each to their own

Thanks for sharing!!

Great video. The best part is your sincerity.
I appreciate that!
Your videos have inspired me to have a happier and healthier life. I feel grateful for all the beautiful things I still have rather than what I have lost.
You put that so nicely! I feel the same way about Margaret’s channel. 😊
Enjoyed the video very much! Take care! You are such an encouragement!
I'm surrounded by family, but sometimes I feel lonely. Thinking about doing some volunteer work.
Thank you for this ❤
Thank you! I worry more about my body outliving my brain than my money. I've learned to live with no toys other than my stereo and my sewing machine. And to thrift just about everything else! I get no salon services, I cut my hair straight across and put it back or up. The price of salon services...gasp!
Thank you my friend for your positive messages. It helps to know someone who is going through the same issues.

Glad you enjoyed it!

Trying to listen to all videos
10,000 steps a day is for the young! For me, being over 60 means not being able to do what or as much as I did when I was young.
I love it!
Wonderful!
Great information as always
I Love this community…
I am in USA..
You are so welcome!
AGOR
