Rent this car. I was blown how good the ride is. The suspension over humps is so much better than my outlander 2020. The multiple camera that assist in parking is Godlike. Definitely getting an EV as my next car.

    Ha Chris,
A nice review, I’ve got 12k on my Atto 3, the interior for me is very cool, definitely not boring or mainstream.
Sound system awesome, Dynamic lighting reminds me of my disco days 😂
love how quiet the car is on long trips, the suspension offers super smooth ride, with no rattling, car corners great on the adequate budget tyres wonder how it will go on some decent ones, I think way better.
I like the intuitive controls and tech I’m an old guy and i find it very user friendly. I easily average 13.5 kWh /100km around town and 15 to 16 kWh per 100km on highway.
So 350 km at 110 kmh is no problem all weather. I have a tow bar from stealth EV solutions it works great for trailer towing and my double MTB bike rack.
Regen is actually not bad once you sort out you need to use brake pedal a tad, just like my old leaf.
I can safely say so far this is easily the best car I have owned. I’m lucky enough to have a couple of MV Agusta motorcycles in the shed so I get what real performance is.
Given current infrastructure my car charges fine I’m not fortunate enough to have many DC chargers over 50 kWh where I live and when I get a chance to plug into the expensive fast 300 kWh ones it will handle around 88k till it gets to 70 percent then throttles back to 50 Kw for the final push.
For me it’s cheaper to order another coffee than stuff with super fast chargers.
On a road trip I charge for 30 to 40 minutes and can cover plenty of ground easily.
Frunk is over rated mate I’ve got a power tailgate with plenty of room for stuff at the touch of a button.
As far as position of charging port easier to drive in than back in but yeah short charge leads suck 😁👍
Thanks for all your work especially the vic road tax challenge we all hope you prevail and finally your kids playing smoke on the water on the door bins never gets annoying mate 🤘🏿

Thanks for your sharing. I just want to ask, if the car is not very discharged, and I charge overnight, is there no risk of overcharging? I mean, does it have an automatic off on charging when it's fully charged? Really appreciate your response. This issue is my only concern before buying this.

    • @rohankilby4499
      @rohankilby4499 10 месяцев назад

Car has a very advanced battery management system so no issues with it over charging it definitely switches off when full in fact when fast charging you can witness as it throttles down the charging rate as it approaches full capacity great car go for it 😁👍

Second time I have heard you crap on about regen. I prefer two pedal driving so do many and have chosen to set the car to minimum regen, recovering power through braking where necessary using the Bosch system. Its target use is city driving through traffic and it does this very well, this is what most people use their cars for or certainly people looking at EV's. If you drive at higher speeds on the open road and are worried about range, look at a model 3 or EV6, around the city I exceed the WLTP range of 420kms nearly every charge.

@@chrisvanderstock So my suggestion is that recognise the Bosch system where regen is recovered through braking as well as having standard regen, just not as strong as some others is not a negative for many in fact it is more likely a positive. I note that Porsche have moved away from one pedal driving.; One-pedal driving initiates regeneration first and then has to convert it to propulsion, which the automaker says results in "twice the losses."

We have owned the Atto 3 for about a month now and it's great. Good to have EVs at more realistic prices. I think it pretty much does everything a Tesla can do without the 'Tesla Tax' as I call it. Tesla was out of our budget.
Appeals to first time EV owners as it comes with everything to get you started (granny charger etc, many EV brand now days don't supply one) or like us upgrading from an old Nissan LEAF that was in need of a new battery.

I have bought an ATTO3 mainly because i have viewed some video blogs from Australia.
As a new owner now, i truly agree it is a joy driving this car.
I have found the Voice command feature is handy. I love this lady voice on board that responds to my requests. It makes each of my trips in this car an enjoyable and lovely experience. Like:
      Ok, i’ll increase the ….
      Ok, got it, i’ll …..
Very personal, like a close friend answering to my request in a warmly fashion.
It is never boring in the car
with this virtual lady on board.❤
The owner’s manual is well written in excellent English. Very thorough and well thought out, especially on the safety aspect in driving, even including the safety of the pedestrians around the car.

Forget the one pedal driving you keep banging on about. Some cars have it, this does not. End of story.
You mention the seats as a negative as they are like “gaming chairs” this is an absolute positive.
One of the best seats you can ever sit in. Of course no seats in any car are perfect for everyone.
    Tyres again???
The Batman A51 are thin as they are specific BEV tyres for low rolling resistance.
Grippy, yes for a mum driving a family SUV as this is what it is, it’s not a performance or race car.
Also, I don’t know why you feel the brakes are mushy, they are actually quite outstanding.
Regen is acceptable and it allows people to easily drive and get the best out of a BEV, that still feels and drives like a normal ICE car. After talking to a lot of people, BYD has sold many Atto 3’s for this reason where some other cars like Tesla have/will turn people away as it has no controls for easy/familiar operation which some people prefer.
Lastly, this car is next level the to MG ZSEV which feels bland and simply out dated compared to the BYD.

BYD are a good company making exciting cars. LFP battery chemistry is great. Much better than Ni Co Mn unless you want to race. I want longevity and batteries that can be charged and discharged totally at will. Plus less danger of fire.
The importer though worries me. The servicing requirements to maintain your warranty is a complete rip off (IMO anyway).
I like the look of the interior. I'm sick of seeing boring black and grey and charcoal interiors. Some blues and creams, the thin red trim in the seats, all that appeals to me.
I really wish BYD had either set up their own distribution network or gone with some established car dealers. John Hughes in WA for example.

I like the interior, it's not BORING like EVERY other car. It's not dark charcoal interior as well which totally confuses me for a country that gets 40c+ regularly because of course dark colours don't absorb any heat at all of course. *sarcasm* Nice to have a dedicated EVSE for your EV but some of us don't own our homes and rent so can maybe at best get 10-15A outlet using the granny charger. 60kWh goes to 89kW that has been seen by many owners and other reviews. It's not about the peak charge rate but about the charging curve so a higher peak charge rate may charge slower to 80% than a lower peak charge rate car which could charge at a higher rate for longer. Fastned may have the charge curve for the Atto 3 available like they do with many other EV's. One-pedal-driving may be coming in a future software update. They are updating it with OTA updates semi-regularly. I'd go Atto 3 over the MG ZS EV purely as I love the red and the interior isn't boring.

I get over 420km of range in suburban driving.
The Atto 3 has one pedal driving when the ACC system is engaged and the vehicle in front comes to a stop the Atto 3 will also come to stop without having to touch the brake pedal.
Byd have not copied Tesla its technology that is available to all vehicle manufacturers, radars/camera's have been used for years.
If you drive no more than 12,000km per year the servicing is capped at $189 per service for the first 5 years with the first service free.

In this category the Atto3 beats the MG ZS EV in every comparison on RUclips and I agree. The MG architecture is ICE derived and the software is a generation behind BYD.
The interior is funky, light and refreshing and adds to the ownership and driving fun.
Despite the massive Tesla model Y pricecut that now makes the gap $16500 from Atto3 it is hard to justify that difference.
The Tesla wins on boot size and charging infrastructure but BYD wins on V2L, included 8A granny charger, opening sunroof and a blind that also opens and shuts.
The Tesla price cuts have caused existing buyers grief by instantly devaluing their cars by $3500 in Victoria and $9500 in Queensland as the new pricepoint brings in State incentives.

I've seen a review on this car by a rally driver, what a difference with reviews by these 'amateurs'. Sorry, no offence, we are all amateurs (but the difference is we don't all 'claim' to be experts). Watching reviews like this, it's obvious they're just about personal taste of the reviewer. I've seen tons of video about this car, and what one person says is great, the other tears down completely. For instance, you don't even feel the slightest difference between eco and sport, while some others say it's very obvious. Even the rally driver said you feel the difference, and I rather believe a man whose life depends on 'knowing' a car, than casual drivers like you. Reviewers begin the review with a certain bias toward the car, and they're not professional enough to review it in a neutral way. One more thing: why do some of you feel the one pedal driving is the benchmark on which to rate a car? To claim it's standard in 2023 is ridiculous. Most EV's still don't have it. It's PERSONAL TASTE, just like the looks, comfort or sport suspension, type of car... A reviewer should recognize this car is designed for buyers who don't want the transition to EV's to be radical, and review it as such, without letting personal preference influence the verdict.

I test drove this car today - I was pretty sure I would be buying one soon.
Couple of things disappointed - first was the seat shape - the head rest pushes my head forward and same with my partner, so not relaxing for our necks.
Second thing, no auto windscreen wiper setting. This was a surprise and the salesman said no way of an over-air upgrade.
Other than that, pretty impressive. I would change the Batman tyres and fit a tow bar for a bike rack but it’s still a possible.

Very poor efficiency compared to what we I have got in over 11,000 kms. I have averaged 13.8 kwh/100km since new, puzzled as to how this car has been used. With regards to DC charging I understand it maintains its speed very well across various states of charge whilst only having an 89kwh maximum. The feedback from Germany is that the blade battery used in this car and in the Model Y coming out of the German factory outperforms the CATL variant by maintaining higher charge speeds.
