    Using a disposable babie diaper works really well instead of the gauze the tabs even help hold it in place while you get your vet wrap ready

    This is a great way to draw out an abscess.. Dr. Lisa's boot technique is easy to apply and lasts even if the horse is turned out.. and it works!

    The poultice pads are a wonderful product. We used them with good success by wrapping the pad around the hoof, securing with a wrap of gauze, and then putting the hoof in a Davis boot.

    Everyone shows a slightly different way of doing this, so I'm guessing that pretty much anything works as long as you can keep the poultice in place. My vet only recommended using vet wrap to keep it in place, but I can also see that the abscess is close to the coronary band. I'll probably add duct tape for added strength. I read instructions from the company saying the poultice sheet should be put into water that is around 100 degrees for an abscess, but I'm not seeing that anywhere else. I'm seeing different times, from 8-24 hours! You talk about placing the hoof in water after 24 hours, but that's not possible in winter in an unheated barn!

    I thought there was no sound, but it is very little sound. I maxed out my volume, still couldn't hear enough to be worth while. Sorry

    What is the name of the stuff you soak? I use a green epsom salt mixture with a baby diaper and duct tape

    Animal intex is a great product and I always recommend and keep around, but if you're stuck on a dessert island a diaper works pretty damn good aswell. Keeping it clean is key. It sounds mean but sometime a good old fashioned light walk can get an abcess to pop.

    Do not wrap the heel bulb!!! When I did this my horse's heel got seriously inflamed. All the hair came off, it was red and resembled mud fever (I wish I could post a photo here). It cleared up in about 36 hours once the air was able to dry it out after I wrapped JUST the hoof and coronary band.

      It's the Animalintex Poultice Pad that's the key! The pad has drawing agents inside it that help to pull out the abscess.

    How often do horses have problem with there feet

    • @Melora.Perseous
      @Melora.Perseous 6 лет назад +1

      I'm not an expert but it depends on the horse, how often people clean their feet, what kind of environment they're in, if they have shoes, how good their farrier is, etc. My sister's mini, for example, doesn't have shoes but his pasture tends to get muddy in the winter because we get more rain in the winter. So his feet get sore and are prone to thrush. Before my sister adopted him, he was even more prone to thrush because the farrier who was in charge wasn't the most reliable (not trimming the horses' hooves as often as he should've). While farriers usually aren't vets, good farriers are knowledgeable about hoof problems. I saw a FB post that said "Good farriers cost a lot, but bad ones cost a lot more."

      I had one that accessed all the time but blew them out on his own, thru the hood wall or coronary band. Very soft feet and soles. My other horse 2 times in 13 years. They can get toe sore when the weather changes and goes from wet to dry. Just have to know your horse. Depends on the horse.

      This is an excellent comment. You are correct, this wasn't the safest method of restraint. It's easy to get forgetful of safety, especially with our demo horse here! Thanks for pointing this out.

    Why not just call a vet to give immediate pain relief and antibiotics without all this drama . Oh and tell the lady in the video not to pick up a horses leg while it’s tied standing at the end of its rope .

      thanks for the feedback- our assistant LOVES to ham it up for the camera and we can't get enough. We are aware of the sound quality here, as one of our earliest videos, we still had (and have) a lot of learning to do.
