    I just discovered your channel and I am obsessed! I am a legal secretary and I have horses, so it is challenging to keep nice, neat, short nails. Everyone kept telling me to get gel nails to "protect" them at the barn and still look nice at work, which I did for about 10 years in the 90's. They absolutely wrecked my nails. So, from 2005 on, I've been a natural nail gal. Thank you for promoting natural nails! Healthy is beautiful!!!

    A few months ago I came across your channel and you recommended jojoba oil! It's been a game changer for me, particularly on my toe nails. For 20 years ( yes, 20!!) I thought I had a fungal infection on my toenails. I kept them covered with nail polishes because I was so embarrassed by them. Over winter, I stopped using polishes and kept my nails bare and used jojoba oil twice a day consistently for many weeks. I now have lovely bare toenails. No sign of any white damage at all. I'm guessing it wasn't an infection after all but maybe just dry damaged nails.??? I'm not embarrassed to show my toenails now. Many many thanks Anna xx

    I can say the same thing. I followed your advice (jojoba oil) in the summer 2023 and had lovely nails. Fall/winter hit - woodstoves fired up and my nails when down hill fast. I had gotten lazy about the jojoba oil. I kept filing them short and started with hot jojoba 2x per week and after washing and doing dishes and bought some Kerasal (which a a miracle salve!!). I put the Kerasal on before bed. My nails look so much healthier now. My only issue is a thumb that has a permanent split down the middle that is genetics, but happy to finally putting some Dazzel Dry on.

I was breaking my nails so often, so painful, though they were seemingly healthy and the skin around healthy too, so I couldn’t figure it out then, but your oil after hand washing tips, kerasal at night and weekly oil soaks have keep my nails from breaking!
    Knock on wood but it’s been about a month that I have had pretty medium long nails that have not broken, close call a few times with incorrect opening of door or window but nails stayed intact!
    Now I want to try dazzle fry next as you have shared many beautiful swatches and manicures with them! Hope to keep my hands and nails lovely and strong/flexible from now on!

    I discovered your channel following one more research on why my thumb nail kept on splitting for the past 18 months. I know it is incredible but in this time I tried everything to my knowledge: stuck some gauze, glued the nail, let it grow, cut it short, filed the top of it (now I know I was creating MORE damage!). Then I figured I wd begin using dazzle dry (at least I had one tiny piece of puzzle right although this wasn't fixing the problem just masking it), then I used some other pre cured gel nails to (in my mind) prevent the nail from splitting, since I thought it wd protect it. But of course, I would also in between gently file the nail (although not much I was conditioned to make it look smooth) anyway, if it existed I did it.
    And then a stroke of luck I searched on RUclips ONE MORE Time and your educational videos came up. Being a bit compulsive (it has many advantages) I got the products the next day. I am only end of day 2, I used the OPI and soaked it in warm jojoba oil and my split nail which is still there, hasn't caught on anything, (I am mindful too but even when I was, due to my hand washing the nail wd somehow curl a tiny bit and catch on ANY fabric) . Nail is slowly growing, but this time is remaining flat against the skin I have about 2.5mm for it to be fully grown out and for the first time I am believing this can be fixed! THANK YOU THANK YOU, it was really bothering me (and hurting me) and now I know it was an issue I created by:
    - using too abrasive files
    - over filing the top
    - being too harsh in my manicures. This is my new self care routine and I LOVE IT! THANKS HEAPS

    I've followed your advice, using a plant oil balm (Hurraw!, for anyone curious) and lanolin instead of nail oil after washing my hands for several months, but couldn't come up with a good setup for a hot oil soak. So for Christmas got myself two hot water+acetone soakers, only instead of using acetone, I filled them with castor oil, covered my nails in lanolin, and sat down to watch a movie, soaking the entire time.
    On the 27th, I was exposed to covid. I wasn't able to take care of my nails, including basic daily filing, for three weeks and let me say: they were 1.5 times the length of my nail bed with no breaks when I finally cut them a couple days ago. I'm back to a more sensible length to be able to type and things. My nails have always grown abnormally fast (2-4mm a week, haven't bothered to try to narrow down what causes the variance), but break very easily, so having talons was pretty fun! I don't do any polish, but thank you for instructions on a basic grooming routine for my nails

    • @TheSalonLife
      @TheSalonLife  Год назад +1

      Castor oil is not very penetrating and not suitable for warm baths for the purpose of plasticising the nails. I'm sure it has benefits for the skin but for the nails (which have much tighter structure, nails are not easy to penetrate) not so much.

    Amazing progress.
    This is a little off topic but I want to express my gratitude. I'm so glad I found your channel only a few weeks ago, or I might have made some critical mistake following people who overfile and cut their skin which I assumed was the way to go. I don't come from damaged nails so I don't have a big transformation, but the skin around my nails has never looked better just from using a drop of oil after every handwash and urea hand lotion and removing the (actual, as know now) cuticle. I rarely used to cut my nail fold with those v-shaped cutters and sometimes even to blood, and I had very dry skin around the nails, that tore and cracked in winter. I don't like the feel and impracticality of long nails, but I do like colour, so I'm curious to see of I can elongate my nail bed/plate with your tips even a little, as I think they're really short.
    I wish I had seen advice like yours 10 years ago when I had horribly damaged nails from constantly buffing and shining them. They were peeling badly and I blamed acetone and nail polishes, which wouldn't last even an day.😅

    This video sounds like me and the issues I have had thru the yrs. I have always been a nail bitter since about 5 yrs old. My fingers are small and my nails grow usually it takes about a week or two weeks to grow out. Once they get a little longer its usually they are off the tips of my fingers and end up getting dirt under them, I try to get the dirt out from under them with a finger nail file, then off to wash them w/ soap and warm water. That barely works. So I usually go and chew them off down to hardly nothing or they start bleeding (that doesn't usually happen, my fingers just get sore.) So today I started using a finger nail file, went around the top of what is left of my nails, then I thought I wonder if this stuff I have called Instant Cuticle Remover by Sally Hansen will work. I used it several times a while back didn't notice much of a difference. I'm thinking I am gonna have to do this with my nails atleast 2x a day (morning and evening) along with filing my nails 2x a day as well. I would just like to get my nails looking like what's on the picture on the right side. I know I'm gonna have to push my cuticles back so I have a longer nail bed on each finger and not have any nail sticking off the tip of my fingers. If I need to be doing something else what should I be doing or using if you think I need to be doing something else. Also how long of a process is this? I'm just curious. Thanks

    Great video, Anna. Will help so many people! My issue is I like to wash my hands many times a day (bit of a germo-phobe), but mostly because I have cats, and I pet them, clean up after them, so every time I do, I feel I must wash my hands. The soap I use is very gentle, and I use lotion at least once a day, and always oil my hands and nails thoroughly at night with jojoba oil, argan oil, or coconut oil, but there is still some peeling at the tips of about half my nails. I am wondering if just having my hands/nails in water so often is what causes the slight peeling (and subsequent little rip at the edges, which I have to file and smooth).
    Is it that my nails are overloaded with water? They are not brittle or hard, or "bendy". I am going to again try what I have tried before, which was oil on the nails every single time I wash my hands (it could be 15-20 times a day!), and see if that helps. Your suggestions?

  • @judycook4314

    I think that her nails look MUCH improved!! I notice that they still have some ridges, which has always been a problem for me. I have worn gel nails for quite a while because due to my job, my hands were often in front of people during document signing and I was embarrassed at how terrible they looked in their natural state.
    I am retired and would like to try your instructions from the earlier video. Will it take about a year of keeping my nails very short in order to see if this will work for me? My nails were very bad from my earliest recollection, and I started the bad habit of biting them off!

    • @TheSalonLife
      @TheSalonLife  Год назад +4

      Hello Judy! Thank you for writing! Vertical ridges are very normal and it's not a sign of a damaged or an unhealthy nails. Just like grey hair for some people they appear sooner than others. But just because the hair is grey it doesn't mean it's damaged or unhealthy :) It's just beautiful differently :)
      It takes 4-6 months to regrow the nails fully. So if you take care of the new growth you will have a good and strong nails growing. The damaged part can be supported as it's growing out.
