There needs to be more locking ability. Especially for pitch , its annoying to tune a sample then if I randomize I have to retune it. Also if I don't want the effects on, there should be a way to randomize without them turning back on. There should be the ability to lock one of the 4 channels, if I like something on one channel and want to randomize the rest that would be ideal. Density, Syncopation and Symmetry should be able to be locked as well. It would be also cool to be able to randomize the sample slices and keep the same rhythm if I like it. Just some feedback @xlnaudio

To be honest, this kind of features, including the features of life, would have been a perfect addition to XO. I don't know why life is a standalone version.. It would have been a perfect way to make a new XO version instead. I'm working regularly with XO and i love it. But it's still missing features and improvements. Hope to see some additions there soon :)

  • @anarchy0208

Interesting, but this should have been a part of XO or XO2. System is almost same as XO plugin except sample import is easier with mobile phone using dedicated app. I feel tempted at a first glance, but I think it is too expensive for what it does even with intro price. And I do not know why can't still do the half speed tempo when I sync it to my DAW.

    • @TonyByte
      @TonyByte 7 месяцев назад +5

I disagree. It's a concept on its own and they simply made a familiar interface for consistency. There are MANY features I want to see in XO2 (what a depressing situation that is, so much potential and agreement by customers) yet keep it simple and stable. However, although I have to dig deeper into this, I do want to see complete integration. Easily dragging the beats, samples and kits instantly INTO XO (possible now?), for instance. I do understand how this may seem to lean towards combining them but I still disagree for now. Plus, I can imagine there are people who would want this who want nothing to do with XO. I can think of 3 people right now. Just my thoughts and I'm flexible to change. :) Furthermore, there is a ton of tech that went into this irrelevant to XO and those users, justifying a price. Why increase the price of XO for this? I think that would anger some users who don't need this and are waiting for the much needed XO2 features. I believe XLN thought this through and its not a money grab.

Have you tried it? Because it’s awesome. It’s so much fun and it’s such an interesting and different plugin. Finally, a new idea in a space that often feels pretty derivative. In terms of the price, I think it’s reasonable, especially when you consider it has cloud sync without an ongoing subscription fee. Free mobile app, too.

I'm actually not terribly interested in "foley beats" which can be a bit cliché. It's also not at all hard take any recording from your phone and drop it into any kind of sampler with a rhythmic focus such as Battery or Serato, and sculpt the sounds from there. However, I could see this being cool for dropping tonal and vocal samples in to chop them up, randomize, and see what interesting results happen, the kind of things I may have never thought of. A bit expensive for what it is, though...

Great question! The main use case for Life is not to load sampled drums. You could definitely do it and you could get some nice results, but Life really shines when you load other stuff than sampled drums. I can't give you any dates or details about future releases, but Addictive Drums is still really popular and it's the reason that we've been able to make all these other great products so we definitely haven't abandoned it.

Hi! We know the legal language can come off as pretty intense, but (as musicians ourselves) we really don’t think there’s any need for alarm bells or red flags. Part of Life is doing things intelligently and musically, and the way to improve these models is by using actual user data. So we just want to keep improving things for our products/users.

@@xlnaudio Your TOS is pretty clear to me. It clearly says basically the user agrees to grant XLN Audio AB non-exclusive copyright of the samples and/or MIDI data so XLN Audio can do whatever they want with it. Even commercially. Yes this raises a red fleg and rings all alarmbells to me and should do to others as well. Who wants to pay $150 and literally give away the copyright of own samples to a company.?! This is bizarre. Even if you now say you will not do thst, why do you write it in your TOS then??? This is just shady.

Love the concept of this although after trying for a few hours one major thing stands out. The power of this is clearly in the randomizer but I find the randomizer always gives patterns that feel much too urgent or "fast", giving quite an anxious feeling. I haven't delved too deeply into this other than watch a few RUclips demo's but at first glance and already being a big fan of XO, I'd say this has borrowed a fair chunk of something that's already in existence, stuck a fancier graphical interface on it and added auto/semi-intelligent sample chopping to make it more immediately accesible to casual users... which should probably have been an XO update rather than a separate plugin.
Considering XO is currently only 20 Euro's more than Life, it seems over priced and a bit over hyped for what it's actually doing. XO is way more bang for your buck but takes some deeper diving to really get the most out of it.

There’s two main methods… one uses the built in sequencer in conjunction with the beat combinator (randomising and locking patterns as I go) with DAW transport sync switched on, the other uses MIDI parts in combination with Ableton’s MIDI clip editing functions, with transport sync switched off and no sequencer pattern in XO. Both methods utilise custom sample folders and the folder search/filter panel.
I could elaborate on a few more stages in each of those methods but text isn’t the best for trying to describe them. Either way can produce happy accidents and combination of DAW + XO gives extreme control over those.
I did read your reply to another user’s comment about XO getting an update soon and I’m hoping some of Life’s original ideas get added, which would make it a real game changer in terms of more efficient workflow, instead of chopping samples outside of XO.
I will try Life and I’ll be more than ok with coming back here to say I’m wrong but at the moment, I can’t see it being a worthwhile addition to work alongside XO, although I do get why some people might prefer to use it for inspiration etc as a separate plugin.

The main reason Life is using a Cloud service is to enable syncing recordings from the Life Field Recorder to the Life plugin in your DAW without any extra steps. Having access to the recordings and beats from our users also enables us to improve on the service by training our machine learning models on real user data. In Life there are currently two machine learning models which enable auto-denoising and smart pattern variations. We have no intention to use your data for any other purposes than to make the experience of using our products continuously better. We will not share or sell your samples.

@@xlnaudio this is wat people need to hear, many fora like gearspace are very negative about your TOS. it would be better if you come with an official statement. I understand that everything you record with the app hast to go via the cloud, but why are the beats/loops you make with life in the vst also stored in the cloud? and if you use the daw recorder to record sounds, why are these saved in the cloud? your explanation here doesnt make 100% sense?

Why is it that you can’t add the language in the TOS that explicitly states that You won’t/cant use our samples unless for machine learning. Your statement about not wanting to sell samples is a whisper compared to the strong language used in TOS that explicitly states you can do exactly what your saying “you won’t” …let’s just be honest, you all went too far, the language is almost demoralizing and takes away our ability to protect our work even in the event we feel “morally” victimized..really?..that’s ridiculous to add in a TOD based on what you “claim” your uses are for..We need a more clarified statement or TOS. If it’s truly just for research purposes, you should be able to clearly state that in TOS so that we are not literally..literally..signing our creations away. There is no reason why these things can’t be clarified better in the TOS and why more information or statements to put potential users minds at ease. If even Spectrasonics can change their TOS after consumers responses and update it to make it more clear and trusting. Then you should be able to as well. It wouldn’t be talked about this much if it wasn’t a problem.

@@gottabeclassic1154 imo the problem is that “for research / product improvements“ in the context of developing current and future ai tools doesn’t negate that they can‘t really guarantee that the same or very similar sounds and musical ideas won’t make it into multiple users work or into the content of their own products.

WARNING! - This plugin has to be a hook. Look what I found in their terms and conditions!
    (7) XLN Audio reserves the right to impose limitations on the volume of Customer cloud storage as deemed necessary.
The cloud will become a subscription. Space is not free. First I was interested but I knew something was off about the Cloud. Hard pass from me. No no no. Moreover, they will charge for storage all while using what we upload as the dataset to develop more AI.

@@xlnaudio The problem is companies are screwing customers in cold ways these days. And with cloud storage there is no way that space will not become an issue.
