No amount of truffle, gold leaf, or caviar can fix that. In Italy, pizza and espresso are incredibly affordable, even in popular, well-established restaurants. Just head to Naples and try a renowned spot like Gino e Toto Sorbillo, or any of the other famous pizzerias-they're all fantastic!
I went to Bonci (2nd place) and I wasn’t impressed. At least the combos I tried were weird. The first place the edge was so burnt I would have sent that back.

Yeah screw that lady. She seemed sweet otherwise, but shame on her for trying to shame we that like it. Have people never heard of sweet and savory? It's a food theme in MANY cuisines, especially Asian cuisines. I think it gets a bad rep because people execute it incorrectly. It's better to use fresh pineapple; the canned pineapple is way too concentrated with the sugary syrup.
@@nahor88well I’m not a fan of fruit on pizza, I think it is really bad combo but that is simply my idea according to my taste. Said that, it is true that in Italy we do not use pineapple on pizza and it is considered something savage to do 😂😂😂 but to be honest pizzas with figs or pears are considered a delicatessen! So maybe like you said, the problem is the canned pineapple, which it really is too sugary! Plus please do not forget that, when talking about food, 90% of Italians will judge non Italian food bad even if they never tasted. Yes except me, they are narrow minded like that :)
As always great video, love Italian food and Sonny's humour, but a pinnacle to me was an Italian guide, ex-kindergarten teacher with a penchant for pronunciation. @@SandBoy408 "I" don't. That is what it is called throughout much of the English speaking world, to the degree that many in English speaking countries think that carbonara is made with other types of bacon - with many in North America going as far as using streaky bacon/belly bacon. And while bacon that is most commonly called bacon these days is made from the belly, and back/loin - it can be made from many cuts, and actually refers to the curing process.
I'm italian: There is nothing wrong about the scissors. The taste will still be the same and it's normal for pizza by the cut. About the spaghetti... well... I guess it was made for americans. Anyway, the place was blatantly on the experimental side, not traditional. You have to know and understand tradition before experimenting.
@@shogunbj absolutely not. That's what i mean with "you have to know tradition to experiment". Especially if you put pinapple on tomato sauce. You still have to know what you are doing. I recently went back to visit family and friends. I was surprised to see how bad pizza was in some places, while in others the quality was just new level.
Foie gras, truffle, and expensive balsamic vinegar, truffle "caviar" served on a nice looking piece of foccacia...this pizza screams "gimmick" for the financially unwise. Besides the "caviar" there's not much nuance or thought that went into this thousand dollar pie beyond very expensive ingredients. If you have this kind of money for food, you'd get further at a Michelin star restaurant with multiple courses. I'll take the mid tier "slice" pizza with different rotation options any day of the week. The guanciale and asparagus pizza was the only one in the video that made my mouth water. Regardless, thanks for the fun!
8:07 NO WAY!!!! I sometimes mock my super anxious friends from Stockholm, ordering a Calzone with spaghetti, cut up pickles and a glass of milk in english with a russian accent. 2:48 Sonny most ppl eat a pizza from the center out. even when sliced, which part of the slice do most ppl take their first bite? yep, the center pointed end, not that outer crust.
I like to eat two bites out of each corner of the crust first, and leave the center of the crust for a hand hold. Then I enjoy the rest of the slice. My theory is that with a reduced crust length right away, there is more pizza surface area to enjoy, and you won't have to fight the crust for the last few good bites. Then the middle piece of crust is devoured.
Also the tour guide, that brought him to Bonci for sure she gets her cut from him, because bonci is overpriced and there are several “pizza al taglio” that are way better and cheaper than bonci, bonci used to be great a decade ago now he completely sold his soul
The pizza itself costs 30ish bucks. The truffle alone is around 30 grams x4.5 euro per gram, so 135. So no, the pizza isn't even close to 1k, it's just a few drops of the balsamic vinegar being counted as the whole bottle
Tripe pizza hurt my soul. I also won't spend that much on balsamic. I buy 25 year old aged us balsamic for 50. It's not the same as Italian aged balsamic, but close enough to save 100 or in your case 950.
I live in Trastevere and know very well the place. "Ivo a Trastevere" is a okay-sh pizzeria, you should try "Dar poeta" that's also in Trastevere and it's way, way better
Nice video dude, especially the part where you ate the pizza from the center because I think you didn't understand the given instructions XD. But... Naples... you should have done it in Naples! Rome is definitely not the home of pizza
i think is just ridiculous to promote and advertise that "italian cuisine" when there is so much else...its seems to me that the expensive place is just for tourists and Americans in particular
When I traveled to Italia about 2 years (pre hyper inflation), I went to small local restaurant near Maranello, where the Ferrari museum is. I had to do a 2 hour trip to get there from Milano, taking transfers at Bologna and Modena. I saw the price of Pizzas as low €2,50 for a Margaritha Pizza. Having lived in Barcelona where Pizza slices are famous, I asked them how big is the size of the Pizza. My Italian friend and the waiter started laughing intensely and told me in a heavy Italian accent "that is one whole pizza". Clearly, the 9€ Pizza you got is not the cheapest and definitely one of the tourist spots. I am sure even in Roma, you can find local places for 4 or 5 € Pizzas.
If you want good pizza, go to Buddy's in Detroit. Also, my wife makes a spaghetti based pizza that has no crust - the spaghetti is mixed with egg and becomes the crust!
Expensive ingredients = expensive pizza. 4:48 reminds you your childhood experience. 6:39 a tripe pizza. Like the beef tripe in dim sum? 7:05 pineapple pizza is a Canadian invention. What is wrong with pineapple pizza? 😮
That last pizza did not cost $1,254 unless he used the whole bottle of that rare balsamic vinegar that cost $1090. Yes, he used some of the $1,000 bottle of balsamic vinegar for the preparation of the pizza, but the total cost for the actual pizza was not over $1,000 or even $500. My guess is that the price of the pizza was closer to $250-$300... still expensive for a pizza
2:28 What Francesco said translated to English was "Francesco, always fresh" and by the look of his face when you cut him off he looked pretty offended🥶, nevertheless I love your sense of humour Sonny!
If you just use a few drops on the pizza, it doesn't add 1k to the price. For the truffle only the shavings are added up but not the whole one, otherwise you could have said it's a >2k pizza.
1. It’s a Pizza, not a Pizza Pie 2. Pineapple on Pizza can be delicious if you use the correct technique in preparing the pineapple and match with appropriate ingredients

*The second place:* It seemed like a hipster joint trying to make a name with unusual toppings.
*The third place:* It looked like it had no tomato sauce, making it dry and unappealing.
True!
I went to Bonci (2nd place) and I wasn’t impressed. At least the combos I tried were weird.
The first place the edge was so burnt I would have sent that back.
Bro just kept the right meme 3:08 for Muslim 😂😂😂
😂, that got me too
Controversial opinion: Pizza is just an open sandwich
its literly a flat bread
Hamburger is a sandwich
@@PJxpanterx Yeah, in my country we have it under sandwiches as well
So that makes burger a calzone.
@@tonianzlovar7590 it's not a closed/ shut sandwich, so I wouldn't say it's a calzone
I'm really stoned and this was an awesome video with the delicious pizzas as well as hilarious jokes. What made me lose it was the water drop sounds with each drop of balsamic vinegar lol!
Well I'm also baked and I so, so sick of the "cheers" after every single bite of food even when he's by himself. I think that the Mexican melon head Guga has rubbed off on him. If you watch his videos from just a year ago you don't hear any "cheers" from his video's. Don't get me wrong I love the vids but knock that crap off!
I'm at 9:50 and I already know it's gonna be flippin truffles, gold leaf and caviar or wagyu 😂
but you didn't expect vinegar!
That's what actually made most of the price, and it's also not over 1000€ because he just used some drops of the 1000+€ bottle.
I love pineapple on pizza with ham, green peppers.
Whether you love it or hate it you can thank a Canadian from Greece. He ran a restaurant in Chatham, Ontario. In the mid-1960s, he created the Hawaiian pizza.
it's the Mohammed Hoblos' reaction when eating the first pizza part 😂😂...you video editor is something else bro🔥🔥🔥
2:25 " Francesco sei sempre fresco" it's a rhyme that means Francesco he's always fresh.
you're always fresh*
Pizzeria luzzi pretty close to the coliseum it's more affordable, it's been in business since 1945, they're not only affordable but also pretty good and on top of that the people working there are just so warm and nice ❤ I literally visit Rome just to visit pizzeria luzzi and have a great time and food
I'll definitely try it out soon. There are two right next to each other one is Trattoria Luzzi and the other Trattoria pizzeria Luzzi dal 1945. Which one is the correct spot? Thanks for the recommendation.
Awesome video! I just want to say thanks for making these. It really has been helping my relationship with food get better! Thank you!
Sonny, been a fan since long time. Miss the content you used to make about weird and wild foods of various countries. You were the one who was patching up the space Andrew Zimmern had left. Hope to see such videos soon.
This is his second channel so it is more like television food Network. He still has his other channel here he does extreme food
1:03 Comedy Gold , took me off guard.🤣
American Italians reaction to those pizza: You call this pizza! You insulting my ancestors!
Americans Italians arent italian. Che vadano a quel paese
I'm from Roma and the spaghetti pizza is embarrassing frankly.
"Don't ever put pineapple in a pizza?" 😂 My pizza my way!
Yet they put a fucking tripe and almost everything in those pizzas
Pinapple isn't native to Rome so they are snobs about it. Pinaple absolutely belongs on pizza. Put whatever you want on it.
I love the 3 price videos. Miss the old worth it guys but this is better.
The new travel episodes they're making are so strange
As always great video, love Italian food and Sonny's humour, but a pinnacle to me was an Italian guide, ex-kindergarten teacher with a penchant for pronunciation. I literally felt her anxiety and the need to step in and correct :D :D :D Not because I speak Italian - but I FEEL that need too :D All the best Sonny, Sonny's wife, the whole crew and, of course, our stellar guide.
She sounded a bit too American to me
Guanciale in English is generally referred to as Jowl Bacon, and it is the "bacon" in carbonara. In simplest terms, it's cured pig cheeks.
Yes, and it is very far from bacon flavor or texture. Don´t know why you call it 'bacon" 😂
@@xjesusxchristx Ok i understand
The sizes of your mouthfuls are the choking hazard 😂 haha glad I am not alone 😅
When Sonny choose second pizza some Italians were screaming "persona pazza" 😂😅
Italians to the rest of the world about pizza: drama, drama, drama...
Italians in Italy: pizza with spaghetti using ✂️
I'm italian:
There is nothing wrong about the scissors. The taste will still be the same and it's normal for pizza by the cut.
About the spaghetti... well... I guess it was made for americans. Anyway, the place was blatantly on the experimental side, not traditional.
You have to know and understand tradition before experimenting.
@xyanatos spaghetti pizza made in Italy, but for Americans 🤦♂️
@@shogunbj we got a lot of tourists in Rome (i'm also from Rome) i wouldn't be surprised by this.
@@LasloVisionary sure americans are going crazy about pizza with tripe. I guess you must be ok with 🍍 on 🍕
@@shogunbj absolutely not. That's what i mean with "you have to know tradition to experiment".
Especially if you put pinapple on tomato sauce.
You still have to know what you are doing.
I didn't say the whole place was built for americans, but that specific flavour probably was since past on pizza is too many carbs.
7:03 Yeah I'm still gonna put pineapple on my pizza
My man. Sweet and Savory? Master Class of food flavors. What a noob she is.
Fuck yeah, anything in a fridge goes on pizza. These new iPhone Italians probably don't even know pomodoro is a fruit.
Pineapple on pizza is like cheese burger without cheese like wtff
Lionsfield hiding in the background

🤣🤣
8:07 NO WAY!!!! I sometimes mock my super anxious friends from Stockholm, ordering a Calzone with spaghetti, cut up pickles and a glass of milk in english with a russian accent.
They get super nervous because they are so pretentious.
And now I see there’s really a pizza with spaghetti in it…hilarious!
Restaurant owner: "Staff, we need a massively expensive item on our menu and say it's super exclusive"
Every Chef ever: "Slap caviar and truffle on it"
Restaurant owner: "Omg I'm wet, how innovative, unique"
2:48 Sonny most ppl eat a pizza from the center out. even when sliced, which part of the slice do most ppl take their first bite? yep, the center pointed end, not that outer crust.
I like to eat two bites out of each corner of the crust first, and leave the center of the crust for a hand hold. Then I enjoy the rest of the slice. My theory is that with a reduced crust length right away, there is more pizza surface area to enjoy, and you won't have to fight the crust for the last few good bites. Then the middle piece of crust is devoured.
@@TheReformedRedheadWeirdoNoMore Amen !!!
4:25 The Kindergarten teacher/tour guide was soo adorable and sweet lol! The claps helped me with the pronunciation too! XD hahaha
Alberto is scamming you bro😂
Thought so, he went through the perfect tourist traps 😄
They call him Alfredo in Italy.
@@skyper8934 that pizza didnt even have 10 grams of truffles
7:07 Swedes laughing, putting chicken, bananas and curry on top 😬
4:03 these people are wild olives with seeds 😂😂
Do Bonci Pizzarium have a 2-minute long Pizza, because that's how long it would take me to tell them to stop cutting 👁️👁️

I am glad I am not the only person who uses scissors to cut pizza.
She said never put pineapple on pizza but isn’t that a pineapple pizza close to his left hand???… 7:13
Pineapple pizza doesen’t exist in Italy
@@soulfester6241bummer, hawaiian pizza is incredible
Tripe pizza hurt my soul. I also won't spend that much on balsamic. I buy 25 year old aged us balsamic for 50. It's not the same as Italian aged balsamic, but close enough to save 100 or in your case 950.

Nice video dude, especially the part where you ate the pizza from the center because I think you didn't understand the given instructions XD.

Yes he went to Rome that literally didn't have pizza until 60 years ago.
This video really makes me want to eat a pizza actually 🤤🍕
That first pizza looks like something they trick foreigners into eating.
I moved to italy 20 years ago after being stationed in Vicenza. You did a great job brother
i think is just ridiculous to promote and advertise that "italian cuisine" when there is so much else...its seems to me that the expensive place is just for tourists and Americans in particular
Lady at 4:45 come on, that's a grown man, not your kindergarten student
She's also mispronouncing the word 'Pizzeria'
Here's the kind of foodie I am. I would never spend $35 bucks on a pizza, but I would spend a $1000 on that 100 year old Balsamic Vinegar.
Same. The Balsamic will last you a lot longer, and flavor many meals.

The balsamic vinegar is 650 euros currently.
Wow, Stephanie is such a beauty!

Wow. I will call all my italian friends and parents to make a trip 🤣🤣🤣 Detroit is the capital of pizza...
As a Swede I agree that pineapple on pizza is forbidden... but then I put banana on it instead. 😅
Banana, curry, shrimp and peanuts on a Vesuvio. SO good
banana go on blonds meatballs :D

What did you do with the rest of the balsamic vinegar???
Expensive ingredients = expensive pizza. 4:48 reminds you your childhood experience. 6:39 a tripe pizza. Like the beef tripe in dim sum? 7:05 pineapple pizza is a Canadian invention. What is wrong with pineapple pizza? 😮
Please do Barcelona next! Love your videos! Regards to the team you all are amazing!
I would love seeing a series about Italy on the main channel.
2:28 What Francesco said translated to English was "Francesco, always fresh" and by the look of his face when you cut him off he looked pretty offended🥶, nevertheless I love your sense of humour Sonny!
7:05 PINEAPPLE ON PIZZA WITH HAM IS SO GOOD!! A mix of sweet and savory
8:04 Italians : Spaghetti pizza is not real 😭
Le some famous italian chef: Here i present "The spaghetti pizza" 💀
If you just use a few drops on the pizza, it doesn't add 1k to the price. For the truffle only the shavings are added up but not the whole one, otherwise you could have said it's a >2k pizza.
1. It’s a Pizza, not a Pizza Pie
2. Pineapple on Pizza can be delicious if you use the correct technique in preparing the pineapple and match with appropriate ingredients
