- We're reviewing every Neo Geo game, and this time it's King of the Monsters, 1991 from SNK. About that ending though... why, SNK??

The ending is even more hilarious when you win the game with Beetle Mania and you get to hear the reporter say "Beetle Mania is devastating all of Tokyo!"
The ending with the reporter reminded me of when the ISN newsroom gets invaded by president Clark's forces during Babylon 5. Ok, that's an obscure reference lol. Great review, Alec. I always salivated over this game at arcades. Now that I own it, well, it isn't bad but it's not great either. It's fun to play a bit for the nostalgia but that's about it

Nice review! I remember King of the Monsters getting a lot of exposure on the TV show Nick Arcade back in the early 90's. Nice shouout to Silverwings21. He is the man at this game.On my best day, I can get to the 5th match on one credit. It is more about timing than button mashing.

I remember seeing this game at the skating rink, and really wanting to play it. However the Neo Geo games took more quarters than the other games, so I had to play Pit Fighter instead.
I had this on snes😂 I wanted to like it so much. The fact you could destroy cities made me so happy. I really need to try this version, that ending is amazing 👏

2:57 The 1st time I played this game was back in 1991/2 at a Ground Round restaurant. I think the MVS was a one slot model, because I don't recall any other games on it. I finally got this game and the Neo Geo AES in 2018.
11:22 I heard there was an earthquake, that happened around that time, and the data or something was destroyed and that's why King Of The Monsters wasn't on Neo Geo CD.
I know it's gonna be a while before you get to these 2 games, but I also did a 1-Credit Clear on Hard of Fatal Fury 1 and Art Of Fighting. Burning Fight is also one of my favorites and it's coming up soon, but I don't have the game and I haven't been able to do a 1CC of it yet.

When I was in university, there was a Neo-Geo machine on campus. The only game that I remember playing was King of the Monsters. I really enjoyed it, even if I never got very far. When the SNK collection was released for the PS 2, I bought it just for this game!
Thank-you for the great review and the playing tips. It's time to reconnect the PS 2 and have another go at this game.
Even as a wrestling game I wish KotM had more variation. The ending you showed us was amazing though!

It's been a year since the last main review, but this was a worthy return! I absolutely love this series, so I really do hope you keep these up. This was a very handy review, and these help me know which ACA games to buy on the Switch.

I'll never forget seeing KOTM on the shelf at our Software Etc. back in the day. First time I played it was a redcab in a local bowling alley. It ate my allowance.

I've been looking forward to this one! I wish this game was on the 138-in-1 cart.
There's a little laundromat in illinois that had this on a neogeo standup mid/early 90s. It was on a repurposed xenophobe cabinet.
As a wrestling fan, a kaiju fan, and a Neo-Geo fan... I wish I liked this game more. Though I did do a comparison on KotM2 a few months ago, and that one's pretty decent! ruclips.net/video/23adFYBoIGk/видео.html
I would have told the manager and got my money back.
Of course the SNES version is the worst version.
I prefer the SNES version of King of the Monsters 2. The SNES retains the gameplay of the Neo Geo, while the Genesis version is just a weird makeshift one-on-one fighter.

@@nyronarnold6024 Kind of, but it has rounds, best 2 of 3. And announcer voice taken from Fatal Fury. I don't know why some people like it. It's crap.
