  • It doesn't and it is demonstrable. This was easy to test.

"That is correct. Raw footage can be decoded directly to ACES, without the need for an IDT. In this case, most raw decode parameters are disabled, as they are irrelevant. You can still alter some, such as Kelvin, Tint and ISO.
The exception seems to be Sony Raw, where Resolve does include a Sony Raw IDT. "

Yeah I tried to explain this and sent a link to a response made in the ACES Central forum to the commenter regarding this exact point however the commenter decided it was better to keep saying things that were wrong to "call me out" for not knowing that raw files need to have IDTs selected. I told them they could simply try this themselves by doing what I showed in this video but instead continued to be uh, wrong, and refused to try it. There's no pleasing some people.

@Eduard.A Mihai This video was just a response to a comment I received where the person commenting did not understand this particular function of ACES.
I have some tutorials that help people to get off on the right foot regarding coloring on my channel. Is there a particular thing that you need help with regarding color grading?

@@TonyDae first tnx for your answer..I'm a beginner so I think that first of all I need to understand how color grading works...I saw a video of yours in witch you color graded an HLG footage..I shoot in HLG 3 and it was super useful..but when you color graded you just fast forward..I wanted to understand the color grade steps .I saw you made a lot of paralel nodes and so on..and the result was amazing .a lot of grade on just a head shot....and maybe another video with multiple color correction and white balance techniques (or if you have one plz give me a link and I'll gladly watch it)

That is because of .braw containing the metadata regarding gamma/gamut, correct? That way Resolve automatically selects the right IDT, I think

Raw files can't get interpreted any differently and they all seem to behave this way save certain Sony raw files evidently. It's a bit more than just metadata since there are some other files (non raw) that can contain color space tags as well but can be changed manually. I think raw is a special case regarding not being able to change it's IDT and it may have something to do with enabling or disabling certain raw tab and demosaic functions but I am... unsure of specifically why. I just know this is how it works.
