I just came back from Jimin’s live which explained why he wrote Promise and how he wrote it. Originally the song was a very negative song it had vulgar lyrics and it reflected how he felt during those times but after he started talking with the other members, going out with his friends and performing on stage his mood got better. So that’s how the title ‘Promise’ came into existence. Jimin thought ‘even if the situation is miserable let’s not make me miserable’ ‘let’s promise eachother that’. So Jimin had composed the song already but he wasn’t quite satisfied with it because he wanted to add some English lyrics into this so he went to Namjoon for help. Jimin explained Namjoon what message he wants to convey through this song. Jimin said I want it to say ‘I want you to love yourself’ but it was too long. Namjoon thought about this for 2 minutes and came up with the lyrics ‘I want you to be your light’ and ‘I want you to be your night’. Jimin revealed that those lyrics were his favourite because he says it means that the darkness and light is part of you so don’t throw it away. Also if you noticed you can see that Jimin has used to word “you” a lot but ‘you’ is how he is referring to himself. Promise is a song he wrote for himself. He hoped this song comforts a lot of people and it did.

I haven't listened to this song in 4 years and it feels just as comforting now as it did in 2019 when I suffered from anxiety attacks and depression/s*iciadal thoughts. I memorized the lyrics word for word, not knowing more than a handful for korean words at the time, to sing to myself when it all felt too much. I'm crying listening to it today knowing I made it through that tough time, and while Jimin will never know what how much his song did for me, Im forever grateful... Last week, me and my brother fought really bad.. We stormed off to our own rooms and didn't speak to each other. I stumbled upon this vid and listened to it. It melted away my anger and stress, calmed me down enough to say sorry to my brother. We had a good time, played some games together and even slept in the same bed. Later that day, he went on the way to school and never made it there. He got hit by a car and the driver didn't even stop. He died in the hospital due to his injuries. I just thank this song because it gave me a little more time with him before he left.. It takes time getting over it, but I just listen to this thinking of him. I cry from time to time. But that's life..

I haven't listened to this song in 4 years and it feels just as comforting now as it did in 2019 when I suffered from anxiety attacks and depression/s*iciadal thoughts. I memorized the lyrics word for word, not knowing more than a handful for korean words at the time, to sing to myself when it all felt too much. I'm crying listening to it today knowing I made it through that tough time, and while Jimin will never know what how much his song did for me, Im forever grateful... Last week, me and my brother fought really bad..
We stormed off to our own rooms and didn't speak to each other. I stumbled upon this vid and listened to it. It melted away my anger and stress, calmed me down enough to say sorry to my brother.
We had a good time, played some games together and even slept in the same bed. Later that day, he went on the way to school and never made it there.
He got hit by a car and the driver didn't even stop. He died in the hospital due to his injuries. I just thank this song because it gave me a little more time with him before he left..

I started crying after listening to this song and actually understanding the meaning behind it. I haven’t really been in the best place I could be in right now and this really motivated me. I used to be such a strong army and then I drifted away and came back and I’m not disappointed. it’s been 4 years for me personally since finding out about Kpop through BTS and I thought they would get swept away through all the fame but I’m really happy that they’re still doing amazing and trying their hardest. I was also in my 9th grade when I listened to this for the first time. Being immature back then, I didn't understand this song with the depth that I do now. Back then, I used to only listen to it for the melody without understanding anything at all really.
But now I'm in my 3rd year, having gone through a lot of things in the past 6 years. Came back to BTS after a long time of physical and mental recovery. Sometimes, even now I find myself in a void, I had almost forgotten that this place that consists of BTS and all the armies exists. Just came across a reel about begins = youth and found myself watching the whole series. After that came to this song because I wasn't feeling well. Now that I listen to it again while understanding what it means, it brought tears to my eyes. This was very healing, soothing in a way I can't explain. I'm no longer an ARMY but whenever I find myself losing myself and feeling empty and anxious. I just come here, because in a way this is my third home

I have no idea how to describe this but Jimin's voice sounds so clean and crisp, it's like it reminds me of a crystal clear ocean, it just reminds me of a clear beautiful pristine blue, it's like flying, high in the sky with the cool wind rippling through your hair and just absolute freedom.
The first time I listened to this song, Jimin's soft voice made me cry. Now, that I read the lyrics, I'm in tears again.
I first thought he was saying "I want to be your light" and 'I want to be your night" which was fine because we all know how BTS help us to handle our lives. How important they are for us, how much we learn from them and from their songs. Edit: Break The Silence just ended the other day and I couldn’t be more happier to have met BTS and become an ARMY. My eyes were filled with tears from the first to last second.
