  • Say hi to Teddy, an aptly named sweet little Yorkie boy, who is going to help show how to trim a pet Yorkie's face. The breed standard for Yorkie's is to keep their coats natural, but our pets are usually trimmed in a puppy cut with a Pet Yorkie Head (which usually includes tipped ears.) Come watch how Teddy does for his head and face trim!

      Omgosh, Marilyn, thank you so much! Fortunately, I had a very sweet boy on which to demo, which made grooming that much easier! 😀 I really appreciate your support and kindness! 😍

    Superb Yorkie. So compliant. Great cut. My Yorkie had a groomer who cut his hair which is 2 toned and it was a perfect heart shape. She left. We went elsewhere. My boy was barred unless sedated. Story we learned. Boy was left in outside kennel for 1 hour with large dogs in the blazing heat. He bit her finger. Had I known, I'd've bit her myself. We never went back. We DIY, now. Hence my youtube name...a tribute to my unsedated Yorkie. 🤣

      Omg, love the name 😅 and thank you for sharing your story! But I am so sorry your little boy had a bad experience with grooming, but kudos to you for learning how to do it yourself at home! Honestly, it can be the best thing for our nervous babies and he'll love you even more for it. 💕 Thanks for watching and good luck with your manic hairdos! 😆

    I found you guys after I ordered a set of clippers for my 15 year old yorkie and I don’t trust anyone to cut his hair after I found out they had to sedate him and put a breathing machine down his throat for “their comfort”… I haven’t taken him back to a groomer/vet for a trim since then and I will only take him up to those places for check ups. I love teddy, he’s just like my bobo❤️

    • @GinasGrooming
      @GinasGrooming  Год назад +3

      Oh Jalen, I'm so glad you're learning to work with your older baby at home. I have never heard of something so extreme as a breathing machine during grooming, so I certainly hope those people were medically qualified (or you may want to report them!) But even a veterinary groom may be too much for our ageing pets, so your situation is one of the main reasons for making these videos. I hope watching Teddy get groomed helps you on your way, and please use our channel as a reference. I'm trying to cover everything that a home-groomer needs to know, but please let me know if you have a subject that stumps you, and I'll work on explaining it (since I'm sure many others have the same question.) Thanks so much, and good luck! 💕

    You are amazing! I have taken my little guy to five different groomers and they have shaved him down like a Chihuahua every time it’s terrible. he hasn’t been mad either. He’s not a difficult little guy to cut either. Just don’t get it. I’m gonna try to do this myself. Thank you so much again you’re amazing.

    If I may ask why do you use a 10 at the tips? I’m a groomer and still getting better at Yorkie ears and face!
    So do you always want to start off with ears first before the face then the chin?
    So you start from the tip then so on.
    For now I’m using my curved shears for the tip ears then my thinners for ears to the chin. Then later when I feel more comfortable I will start using my curved shears on ears, face & chin.
    It looks fabulous! Love your videos so so inspiring ❤

    • @GinasGrooming
      @GinasGrooming  11 месяцев назад

      Hi Azra! Always an honor to meet a fellow groomer! 🙏 So, the #10 on the top 1/3rd of the ears is used as the standard because it is considered the safest shaving blade (also why used on sani's, armpits) to get those tips looking super tight and pointy. And then, yes, I use the ears to guide the shape of the face. Using your blenders is 100% good, just takes a bit longer! Using curved shears will make a more sharp of a line between face and throat/neck (which I like for Terriers as opposed to more blended teddy bear faces). Good luck, and thanks so much for your kind comment! 💕

    Question: Why do they cut the hair on the tip of the ears? Sorry is my first time owning a Yorkie

    • @GinasGrooming
      @GinasGrooming  Год назад

      Hi Martha, aw, welcome to the wonderful world of Yorkies! 😍 So tipping the ears, or shaving and scissoring the top 1/3 of the ear, is done to accentuate the point and give them their signature adorable look. Yorkies, and other terriers (think Westies, Scotties, etc) are quite unique with their ears that stand up, so it just makes sense to show them off! Hope that helps and thanks for your question!

      Hi Irma! Here's an affordable metal comb from Andis that works great for face and body combing: amzn.to/3xN73WT. Just make sure that you always point the teeth away from your pup's eyes, gently hold his head whole combing, and go slow - and you should be very safe! Hope that helps and Happy Grooming! 🐾

      Hi Yvette! Thanks so much! 🙏 The thinners I'm using are Geib Avanti 48-tooth thinning shears, hard to find, but attaching our affiliate link to a similar pair from Geib on Amazon: amzn.to/3zxxQVD. As you can see, pretty pricey (but if you're grooming professionally, you usually have to make the investment.) However, I snooped around for a good pair of thinners that is under $100 from a brand I know and use, which is Kenchii, in case that may help!: amzn.to/3HijpXl. Happy Grooming and thanks for watching! 😍

If you want to stick to Amazon shopping, here are two choices from two very reputable companies ranging from a low-cost option to more pricey. Hope this helps! Hi Helen, your little 7 month old is yet too young to stay still! But you can encourage good behavior by doing small grooming tasks (brushing, combing), and then rewarding. As they grow older, they become wiser (promise), but it's all about training them to love grooming. Good luck, thanks for your interest! 💖
