Just purchased two of the Renogy 550w bifacial panels. I'm super impressed with them so far. They are one of the first that actually get almost all the advertised wattage. Most of the others I've seen seem to be around 3/4 of the advertised wattage at most and on pristine weather.
@2:30 my tip as an experienced off grid installer; if you're going to use 2 Unistruts side by side it probably makes sense to swing for a standard rail system; it will be easier to mount and adjust with a rail like IronRIdge; it won't cost much more and you'll be able to easily change modules if you want to change in the future without having to measure and space out unistrut perfectly.

What areas do you offer your services
You can take advantage of the bifacial technology, putting a reflective material at the bottom of the panels, almost at floor levels and you get even more power, my friend tried and got 30w more on each panels (even white surface works) cheers
I plan on making a video about that I want see how much of a difference it would really be. Should be an interesting video. Might surprise all of us. Plan is in the motion 👍 new video coming soon
@@ModernOffGridDIY One thing too be warned about is that that haven't been written on the description so the voltage and amp will increase and the temperature (this is the warning!) would also increase that could damage the solar panels. I was thinking about this, but seeing the temperature increasing (naturally but wasn't thinking about it) i'm not going to-do that because the heat could making a fire.
Dude thats awesome way to mount those panels.
Thanks buddy hope it helps the next guy with there projects. 👍
I just bought these for my house. I'm installing them as auxilary as my panels are on the roof and will be covered with snow soon. Can't wait to see what they can do.
a shiny front on your power shed will put more sun on the back of your panels... better output on cloudy days👍👍
Nice install video and description. Been studying bifacials about 10 years now for fun. But innovating them, building a prototype around testing inventions/ breakthrough a few years now and output and thermal testing them over a year. Monofacials will be dinosaurs soon.
My record, but it's using some proprietary magic, was near solstice, latitude 38 and during cloud edge effect - 609w from a 445w mounted partially above water during cloud edge effect.
My max hours of rated output, need to doble check, but about 7.3hours rated. Fixed panel, about the height of yours. If you had tilt you would never get anything done - you'd just want to play solar geoengineer, it's wonderful tech, so so many benefits.
Great content. In regards to higher priced solar equipment and the Grow watt you installed I think you nailed it by saying it just works. You can't ask for more than that. More expensive options should be considered if you can afford it. Let's face it at the moment an affordable system that "just works" and is safe is a really great way to go. No need to keep up with the Jones on that front. Thanks for sharing.
Man that’s a nice setup 👌
You just sold me on bifacial panels. I have 8 235 watt sharp brand panels with the light diffuser coating and im going to buy 10 or 12 more panels next week. Now im for sure buying the bifacial. Thanks
I just want to remind everyone regular solar panels work just fine. But if you need that little extra energy and you can justify the cost for you then more power to you. Each his own 👍
I've found the bifacial panels to be great as well. I have the Canadian Solar 445W panels, 20 of them total for a face value of 8.9kW and have hit 11kW with them (only once, but still amazing!). This is my first array, but I am sold on bifacial.
What is max you have ever seen or recorded on your 445w? That's my primary module. I innovate bifacial albedo infrastructure.
How do you have them mounted? Off the ground like this video? I have the 550w and just mounted them and getting less than I was when I had them just leaning on my (white) garage door.
@tlteal you have it hooked up to thirsty batteries or an electrical load and metering/testing it then?
@@CircularSolar1 LFP batteries about 11kw worth
@tlteal whats the gap between the garage door and backside of panel? Just a guess on how to visualize your application, but if possible raise one side so you creat a fixed tilt. Test it normal then tilt on back to back days 100% sunlight for an accurate test.
Bro love your videos, been watching episodes as they were upped on the tube4 years now. Great stuff. Takes hard work and few years of doing said hard work to be able to afford such kick azz equipment. Peace 💯Love and prosperity.
Awesome brother I appreciate the support and dedication you have given over the years. Your right takes hard work to get any where in live as you know. I hope your projects are doing well and always keep your head up.
@@ModernOffGridDIY I'm not sure if I'll ever use what you've taught, but I've thoroughly enjoyed watching your videos. I've been following you since the days of living in the converted jobsite trailer/office and the golf cart batteries.
Awesome brother thanks you got see what most people missed. Thanks for the support
I run bi-facial panels and have for nearly 3 years. If you put a white gravel under them you get a higher power during the winter
Awesome
Nice setup if you add some white rocks or stones beneath your rack it'll help reflect the light to the bottom of the panels giving you more output...
Yes..or just paint some plyboard white.
I plan on making a video about that I want see how much of a difference it would really be. Should be an interesting video. Might surprise all of us. Plan is in the motion 👍
Or spray paint the ground white.
Move to Antarctica to harvest the snowy ground’s reflected light!
really nice setup. so smart !
Thanks for the support
@@ModernOffGridDIY your welcome , i constructed a similar system and two of the panels are by facial . i like your philosophy and appreciate the advise about sizing the system to the specification of the components. keep doing the good work. but , i dont think that this is for every one and there is a lot to learn in doing it your self.
Aloha, thank you for doing your videos. I really enjoy them. However, that hanging power strip, come on brah!
A double-sided solar panel produces more power when mounted high on a mast or at a height of 1.8 to 3 meters with spacing between them to provide the light that hits the ground or a reflective surface and then reflects on the back of the panel.
I hear you can position mirrors reflecting the sun on the rear of the panels, not that your short for power, that would be a good test though, cheers :)
No A/C, heating, or well removes most of the big overnight power usage & minimizes battery requirements. Great place for solar.
Very nice but I worry your stand won’t handle a big storm. We regularly get winds in 90km plus here in winter. Also why are they mounted so flat? I love your nice power room. Really neat. We are also long off grid but seriously looking at adding Bifacial panels for winter.
i have 6 of these panels and they are a beast in the summertime,,, but in the winter here in skandinavia you aint getting much power...
I’m just jealous of that ranch house. Paradise with Cows.
Buddy no need to feel jealous at all. Just remember there is always someone that has it worse then the next person. Hard work and dedication can get you anywhere you want to be in life. Thanks for the support. I love the ranch and being off grid. God's country.
@@ModernOffGridDIY yep agree with all that. You came so far from the 12 volt and that Small shed years ago with a freezer full of beef. Lol. Been a while now.? I was trying to remember your old RUclips handle. Something like Haziblizts or something . Keep the videos coming, For a while I thought you was going to quit making videos. I finally got few things on Solar here and starting to look at the A/C parts to build it into the house wiring. Starting to see a little more automation products coming out. Relays and controlling them. Have a great 4th of July.
Yea sir the old name was Hawaiibiz still keep the freezers full with Beef lol you remember wow most people have know I idea lol. If you get any tips or tricks and can use them in anything you do awesome and if not at least get some entertainment out of it lol Thanks buddy
I might have the same panels from signature solar.
On the solark 15k. Love it
These 550w solar panels I purchased locally. Love the solark been thinking about buying one for my other property. How has the solark worked for you any issues or problems?
Hello! I am curious to know what brand of panels you are running in this video. Thanks!
Will the support rails below the panels..affect the performance of the botton side of the bifacial ,by the shadow of the support?
When there’s snow they’ll produce a lot more power, I have a coup of those for my apartment with 5kw in lithium batteries saves me $$$ in electricity
Put some white gravel below your panels to increase the radiation from behind :)
What are you going to do if a hurricane comes through? Maybe put some hinges on your supports so they can fold flat on the ground and add anchors around it for several straps.
Good question something I need to think about how to protect my panel just in case that might happen. Might be a youtube video showing posable ways of doing this and actually building it into the system some how.
Question.. would an instant hot water heater be better.. more energy efficient and all that than a water heater/tank setup? I know they run about $3K or so, about 2x that of a typical 500 gallon water heater tank setup, but would think for a battery/solar off grid home it would be a better choice for running lower energy only when needing hot water?
Hi, could you put something reflected, maube even white rock. Put weed cloth down, then put the white rock on top!
Do you get 550w from the top side only or does the bottom have to contribute to get the rated watts?
You should put something white either behind or underneath to reflect the sunlight. I have panels on the roof of my house. The sun reflects off my white fireplace chimney onto two panels. Those two panels produce more power than any of the rest.
Thanks for sharing I plan on doing some tests and sharing the results with everyone
Not sure of your location, but if you get snow in winter, you will get a lot of power from bottom side from reflected light. Also bifacials may melt the snow off panels due the heat produced from PV power from bottom side heating up panel enough to melt snow and allow snow to slide off. I'm a fan of solar tracking- not the really expensive 2 axis pole mounted type, but for single E/W axis tracking. Bifacials may lessen the benefit/power gain seen on E/W tracking of single sided panels.
I was thinking along the same lines. I too have an E/W tracker and wondered how bifacial panels would perform. We don’t get snow here but they might make significant gains on cloudy days when the light is defused.
Ao for the 550 watt rating, is that for the front, half in the front and half in the back, or some other divided amount?
How long would you say that it takes you and your helper to install a panel? My wife and I were looking into these and I was curious as to the time involved. Thanks
where you were standing showing the panels you could put a pole in the ground with an old directv dish polished to mirror finish to reflect sun to underneath side of panels and boost your charge even more and take some mylar emergency blankets'silver reflective' dirt cheap and cheap tent stake them down on the lawn under the panels to reflect better.. for max performance. i plan on getting a shipping container and painting roof silver reflective paint and mount panels on roof to welded square tubing. and intergrate a c-band dish actuator to adjust the tilt on panels every 3 months for opt sun tracking.
The panels put out so much power thu the day it's not needed.
Anyone use old mirrors to reflect light onto the backs of these?? Even mylar covered plywood... or silver backed 1/2" foam insulation?
Would you install these solar panels verticaly? I am looking at installing 33 of these panelst and i dont know whether to install these on top of my barn or installing these as a fence with 4x4 polls in between each solar panel? WOuld appreciate a reply thanks...
Looks Great ... How is the WindTurbine work out? ... May want to add a more Reflective material (White Gravel) or Mirrored surfaces to Improve the Bifacial output !!
I plan on making a video about that I want see how much of a difference it would really be. Should be an interesting video. Might surprise all of us. Plan is in the motion 👍
Bifacials are best if you put them up like a fence. There are a few videos out there on YT.
I recommend Solar Assistant to monitor your system. You wont regret it.
👍👍
Hope you got heat pump water heater now. .4kWh
what voltage is your battery bank?
I’m in Hawaii, too! Where to buy the 550W BiFacial Panels? And how much is each new, please? Thanks for posting! I will be delving into building us a solar array sometime soon!
What Island
👍👌❤️🇨🇦, nice panels, do you tilt the panels, in theory the tilt should be as close to the degrees of latitude of your location, I have to tilt my array because of the change between the sun's angel difference between summer and winter
I don't have to change the tilt or anything it's good year around even with my other solar panels
What was the brand of the panels?
Put some white stones under the panel's or somthig to reflective the sun and you will go 10% more energy
I thought that bifacial would be mounted like a fence (vertical). Standing straight up facing east and west. Multiple rows allows for reflections.
No but you can mount them any way you want.
Cross members should have been at the center of the bifacial where the wire connections are then no shading on the back side
It works just fine
Put mirrors under them.
increase tilt angel 5 degree of your bifacial panels, and see the difference
Every solar enthusiasts knows where the sun travels over their yard, lol.
Not the point.
I’ll never understand why most people shove the panels together and leave no room for convection cooling.
So that you create a chimney effect which helps with cooling.
@@1xXNimrodXx1 Exactly. Every little bit helps becasue these things get very hot which reduces its life and efficiency. Letting air go around each individual panel will help radiate the entire system. Removing trapped hot air from the bottom and vacate the stagnant lingering hot air on top. Hot air naturaly rises so why impead its path.
@@Do_the_Dishes Please check on how the chimney effect works. The idea is to create a convection stream, therefore its better to put the panels together.
You should try wind mill for charging, if you got good wind.
I have lots of videos on wind Turbines check them out
@@ModernOffGridDIY Sure I will.
Why not leave your water heater on all the time and add more electric loads like stove and oven etc.
Wondering how they work with snow on them
Not sure we don't get snow here in Hawaii
I am building my retirement home in Macon, GA so there will be a good amount of sunshine. I am trying to decide if I should go completely off grid or completely grid. If I go grid only, it will cost about $10k to run electirical wires to the property. I was thinking I could put that $10k into a solar system instead. My thought was a 60 kwh system for a 1800 sq ft home with normal appliances and AC with a heat pump for winter. Do you think this is doable? What if its raining for a week straight? Are there times for you when there just isn't any sun? What do you do?
Thanks for reaching out, this is a loaded question we would need to talk about all the options and different Scenarios to make the best choice there is lots of options on both sides. I offer 1on1 help turnwasteintoenergy.com
Prepare to be shocked (grin). You are looking at $60,000 (or more) for that much solar, pay the utility. I just bought a $15,000 system from Signature solar, 2 6500 watt inverters, 24 460 watt bifacial panels, 4 5 kWh batteries with six bay rack and a few wires. That does not include any mounting hardware or installation labor. I am doing a self install ground mount.
U have any problems? I’ve 3, of these 550’s in parallel and I’m getting 22 amps.
Are you getting that?
I have every 4 panels wired in series not parallel. My inverter can take in 250v dc
That growatt has better surge capability than the solark, for what it worth.
Thanks for sharing
EG4 18k is better then Sol-Ark and is only $5,099 at CC
Eg4 18k look good and definitely something to consider.
Thanks. Where do you live (what state)?
Hawaii
Purple sky??
Do you have a link to those solar panels?
I purchased them brand new here locally
Mount some mirrors under the panels
I plan on making a video about that I want see how much of a difference it would really be. Should be an interesting video. Might surprise all of us. Plan is in the motion 👍
Where you been brah
Living life building out other properties staying busy. Hope your doing well
What is a bi-facial solar panel?
Sun from both sides
uumm ...
What brand of bifacial panels did you get?
