My friend Alicia and I were big LOTR fans. We must have seen all the movies at least half a dozen times. Alicia passed away three days ago. This song has never spoken to me more than it does now. RIP, my friend.
Sorry to read of your recent loss, glad you are finding comfort in time. I've had the Lord Of The Rings, 3 DVD separately, for a long time, but only up till about 1&1/2weeks ago, had I only those 3 movies. I didn't know that, "The Hobbit" was the actual story's beginning, ha ha... So I bought The Hobbit, and last night I finished on "binge watching all the movies, in sequence, starting with The Hobbit and ending with... "the song above." A great collection, will always be a classic. I can vision the entire story told... within both series collectively.
I remember watching the Fellowship of the ring in the cinema in our small town . For the first time the hall was full.. when after 3 days i came again it was only half of it. Then , when after another 3 days i came there again i was sitting there alone. I just couldn't stop coming there. This trilogy is not part of my soul, this IS my soul. Words cannot express all of it. And this music..reminds me of my dad, he passed away 3 years ago because of cancer.. i hope to see him sometime. And this song gives me hope.
I never imagined a Triology would become my Absolute Love.... ❤ I watched LOTR for the first time in 2018 with my friends but couldn't give it an undivided attention and fhus couldn't understand it properly.. This time in March 2023 i decided to rewatch amd since then I've watched LOTR several times and The Hobbit a couple of times.. I can never get over the ending... Frodo just leaving giving a sudden shock to his Sam 🥺😢😭😭 After his ship leaves and Sam comes back, This Song begins and every single time i watch it I feel such a Suffocation in my room that i just go out into my balcony n watch the sky.... 🥺🥺🥺 Such Masterpieces are created once in a Century..... ❤❤
unfortunately at that time i was just 6 years old and obviously didnt attend to the theatre at that time. However, I feel like ive had a similiar experience with the hobbit when Ed sheeran sung I see fire in the second hobbit film.. I was there with all of my friends who loved LOTR as much as I do. Sadly I have no contact to any of them anymore. Good ol' days :(
Both the lyrics and music are mesmerizing. One of the most beautiful songs which I have had the pleasure to listen to in my 57+ years of listening to music.
"Yes"... but that's a road... a road of which we will have to choose for our continued journey on the other side... "Always we're journeying into our "west." The roads we take now, "the roads we believe in, "sail our course...best we can", may we find belief in such peace, such beauty on this road, and on our next road, journeying into our West."
There's an extra level of poetry in this from The West having been used in this way since at least ancient Egypt (all the pyramids and the Valley of the Kings are on the west bank of the Nile!).
Just now in 11/2023 hearing this song for the first time! Now I’m going to learn how to play it on my cello, guitar, and piano, and layer it and hopefully create something really good as a mash up!
This song is amazing...it takes us into the universe that Tolkien created, to everyone who has read the books or studied some more about this universe and has fallen in love with it. So many lessons to learn from it, it's almost unbelievable.
I've always loved Annie Lenox's voice... it's of crystal, dancing on notes of high & low. "What can you see... On the horizon...? "Why do the white... Gulls... call...?" ✨🌎🕊 May we pray for such a moment in clarity, of peace... of having chose "that road" as to be our, "another road", when comes our time, in passing. As I believe that... "our passing of this life is that... "onto another road." As said by Gandalf the white, to Frodo.
I cry EVERY SINGLE TIME I hear this song!!! You just get attached to these characters and to see some of them leave it makes you feel sad but happy for them all at the same time!
Did you watch, The Hobbit movie also, if so, did you watch in the sequence of "The Hobbit", Fellowship Of The ring, The Two Towers & This, "The Return Of The King", having the movie "The Hobbit" paying first?
I just want to say this song helped me so much and lotr changed my life . I lost my grandma in the third grade and was so depressed . The next year I met my teacher who introduced me to the lotr . We all were named after characters in class instead of our names . I was Galadriel. Lotr return of the king was coming out that year and she had a few students stay after class. We thought we were in trouble . She told us she had got permission from our parents and since we were so good and huge fans she s taking us to the movie . When I heard this song at the end I cried so hard thinking of my grandma imaging she hoped on the ship and got carried home. I love this song so much and lotr
@@johnlow7621 Funny... I watched Excalibur at a theater in downtown Butzbach, Germany. While in the service, I had a few dates with one woman, it was Gretchen who had brought me to that theater one early evening, surprised me... and "yep", all the while Excalibur was showing, Gretchen whispered the English interpretation, into my ear. A wonderful memory I cherish, your words of greeting from München, along with song & movie, well... I'm happy to recall that memory.
@@ronbond9766 Hello, Ron! Thank you for sharing that memory with me! It is always nice to have special and very personnel recollections of times in one's life that one can recall and cherish! Greetings from München and keep safe!
On the shores of the Sundering Sea lies the Grey Havens. Nestled safely within the harbour wall a ship waits, it's sails furled at rest. Soon I will board that ship, the sails will unfurl and catch the summer breeze and I shall sail into the West. Where my beloved Debbi softly sleeps.

So, so beautiful 💖
Hard times in here. No one wants a war. Went to see the RotK at the cinema yesterday, seeking some comfort. Who knows what the future holds!

I remember listening to this in the theater after the ROTK 20 years ago. It was so melancholic, you didn't want it to end.

Perfect voice of Annie Lenox for such a perfect song... to harmonize the ending of such a journey...
Agree totally. Rog. Pacific sunset records.

It is the saddest beautiful song ever. I remember to the to cinema performance everyone came out with tears in one's eyes.
I’m choosing my funeral music, this I think will be when my coffin enters the church🙏🏼
