The good thing about doing some of the work now and leaving until spring is you might find a few other drainage problems throughout the winter. When there is more rain drains might boil up and you can mark them with a post or something for spring time and fix when it’s dry in the spring time.

    • @IFarmWeFarm

They should be ok, that bank wasn’t actually supporting them and a lot of the larger trees had falling over the years. We left a portion of ground to keep them secure hopefully. Well done Adrian, nothing better than the feeling of accomplishment when reclaiming land. One thing I would bare in mind and it may affect alot of us farmers that have reclaimed land over this last 70 years, but if the EU goes ahead with this bio diversity 2030 Bill, it will be set in law that any land reclaimed this last 70 years must be rewetted back to bog. Somehow I don't think enough farmers know about this and sadly it will devestate rural Ireland, hopefully the political parties in Ireland see sense and vote against the greens and vote no to this bill for Ireland.

I just wonder, most farmers have an urge to keep their fields neat and tidy, weed free, nice looking with leafy grass for good feeding. Maybe it's our fascination with symmetry. But I wonder do we need to get to grips with untidiness and let things go away on there own. Not saying removing an undrivable hill is the same, but clipping back bushes too much, removing briars etc maybe we need to change that. I don't know, difficult to get ones head around.

    • @IFarmWeFarm

It’s not so much the tidiness of the land it’s more for production purposes. For me that is grass, it’s the cheapest most natural food cattle can eat so the more good quality grass we can grow the better. With the way farming is going and all the extra input costs involved we really have to make the very best of what we have. Hope that’s makes some sense, it’s a simplistic version of a complexed industry

Regarding your Mic Adrian, I’ve never had a problem with your audio except when you’ve been working on a really windy day etc.
