This guy's son is also cool as hell. I went in there looking for a ribbon for my smith-corona skywriter. I asked him how much. He said, "No charge. Do you want to know why?"I was like sure. He pointed to my T-shirt. I was wearing a Bad Brains T-shirt. We started talking about bands and record collecting. Awesome. Going there tomorrow.

Nice story I really enjoyed it. Insight into a vanishing trade.

My 1940 Royal model KMM is still going strong. Bought it in 1970. Built to last.

i purchased a 1948 Royal DeLuxe from them, and i'll say there's nothing like it. they're kind people, they're always willing to help, and in general they just love doing what they do! you can bring any typewriter to them and they'll fix it for u. their ribbons are good too, so check them out if ur in new york

Typewriters aren't going anywhere and continue to gain in popularity long after this video was made. The grandkid would be wise to at least consider the possibility of learning everything he could from the grandad. In this day and age jobs that are done online via a computer are increasingly being contracted out to a hungry workforce overseas who are willing to do the same work for a fraction of the price. Our society has suffered through many generations that have largely looked down on those wishing to learn a trade. It's gotten to the point that there is a real shortage of people that can actually do many of the things we are still in need of. Not only will a typewriter repair person find an increasing demand for their skill set over the coming years, but it's a job that is safe from being outsourced.

Cool film but the music sucks. It's really distracting and doesn't really compliment the old school vibe of the content.
Maybe you should cut a version without it? I'd rather hear what the dude had to say
