Hi Thanks for video your system looks great. I agree Silver Perch are certainly a great tough fish for Aquaponics. They survive in Melbourne quite well but for good growth Melbourne is too cold for them. I have a batch 6 years old, some are quite big perhaps 1Kg, however there are some runts that would be 250 gram.

Yes Joey, they are slow grower. Trouts are growing faster but they don't like our warm summer... Where are you based?

Trout are great in the Melbourne climate but you will need to harvest them off when the water temp gets to 23c.

John what do you think of trout as an aquaponics fish for the Melbourne climate?

Hi Philip, trouts are excellent but tricky to keep in summer. better to grow them for 9 months.

Hi Jonaton, I'm planning on creating my own aquaponics system in my backyard here in melbourne, whereabouts did you buy your perch?

What woudl be the most suitable fish for the Toowoomba region? I've been trying to talk my daughter into having her own aqualture and grow vegetables as well.

Jade perch will grow well and if your water remains above 23C you can also do Barramundi among a lot of other potential species.

What type of vegetables can you grow by using Aquaponic technology? Production periods ? Cost of installing ?
If you could provide that information, it would be much appreciated

Hello Sham, Thank you for your comment on the best aquaponics fish to grow in Australia.
Regarding your specific question you can watch those 2 videos: ruclips.net/video/l7cSNwZo640/видео.html ruclips.net/video/z2_NKlmlQaQ/видео.html
The easiest vegetables to grow are leafy plants such as lettuce, silverbeets… The growth cycle is generally 30 days (more or less depending on condition). The cost depends on the scale and technology involved and scale. A good production facility will include greenhouse with temperature “control”, fish tank, filtration, deep water culture tanks, rafts.
I hope the above helps. 😉
      Thanks
      Jonathan

Hey mate are eels and fresh water flounders good for aquaponics

    • @AquaponicsRevolution
      @AquaponicsRevolution  4 года назад +1

Hi Aus Grows. eels are ok but they are diffuclt to keep in the tank. They generally escape easily. Flounder is a saltwater species, not adapted to classic freshwater aquaponics. Where are you based?

How big a tank to number of fish would u recommend?

    • @AquaponicsRevolution

Hi Spina, tank volume is important but what is even more important in aquaponics is the growbed size. I detail the ratio in the free training available in the video description.

Thanks Hugh, Yes you are right Tilapia is an excellent fish for aquaponics however it’s banned in Australia and couldn’t survive to Melbourne winter temperatures. Where are you based? Are you growing them?
      Thanks
      Jonathan

@Melbourne Aquaponics, can you share the reason why it is banned? I am from Vietnam. Aquaponics is my hobby and I am not an aquaponics expert. Yes, I have tilapia in aquaponics system. I feed them with production food and occasional live food (superworm, which I can easily buy at local store with cheap price). BTW, I like your videos and would like to ask if you have any dedicated channel where people can consult with you regarding to aquaponics. That would be great. Thanks.

Hello Hugh, Tilapia is banned in Australia because it is considered as an invasive species, if released into the environment it could compete with native fish and take their place into the ecosystem. Basically the capacity of Tilapia to breed, grow and adapt to extreme water quality makes this fish a dangerous competitor for native Australian fish.
Yes we have a website “melbourneaquaponics.com.au”. What type of setup have you got?
      Cheers

Hello Jonathan, thanks for the info. My system has 2 growbeds and I intend to introduce 1 more growbed (100litre) to my system this weekend. I have around 35 tilapias of medium size in a fish tank filled with around 400l of water. I grow some like:
+ Malabar spinach and savory (grow very very slowly, not sure it is because of my PH of around >=7.5, closed to 8)
+ Cucumber (just grow recently, not sure the result)
+ Gourd (grew very good, looks like it likes PH of 7.5-7.7, unfortunately I had to cut it off as it grows toward my neighbor's house :-) )
I did have 2 videos on my youtube channel showing around my aquaponics system. I don't want to put the links here as I don't want to hijack your video :-).
I am glad you ask about my setup. Regarding to my PH of 7.5-7.7, I am not sure how I can bring it down safely to around 6.5-7 as recommended for aquaponics. I can buy phosphoric acid here but don't want to as the its source is not reliable (imported from another country). I tried with other approaches like driftwood, leaves of Terminalia catappa, compost tea. They all failed in bringing the PH down. Not sure if there is any other way to bring PH down to 6.5-7. I also watched your video "pH Control in Aquaponics (2018)". There I understand that a mature system will likely have PH down and down. My system is like 4-5 months but the PH has never gone down anytime. It is just stable there at 7.5-7.7 :-). If you have any advice on my PH, I appreciate.
      Thanks,
      Hugh

Thanks Hugh, if you want to send me your video link through the website contact form (Melbourneaquaponics.com.au) I am happy to review and give you feedback in a video.
Regarding your pH problem you may have limestone into your system, what type of media are you using? are you adding minerals to your water? have you got any stone into the fishtank?
      Cheers
      Jonathan
