Thanks for being one of the first to post a reloading video for this cartridge. The fact that you had load data from Hodgdon already was awesome. Sounds like you are getting some good accuracy out of your Henry, good to hear. Great video, keep them coming!
Thanks for watching.
Not yet available on their site.
@@mkshffr4936 I am not sure what Hodgdon is waiting for, but I know they will send the information if you call.
I just picked up my 360Bh today. Thanks for the info. While I was waiting for paperwork I ordered rcbs dies and some 180 gr hot core. If i dont like those bullets i will try them in my 357max. I have always loaded from the Lyman data, it always seems to be more on the conservative side just waiting for a new addition. I am curious how .357 xtp bullets would work in this application, they work great in the max.
I honestly don’t think the xtp bullets would hold up under the speeds I’m runnning. The 200gr round nose are perfect out 200 or so.
Great video! Thanks for sharing!!
Thanks for watching!
A great video thank you for the info.
Absolutely
Hello: I have a Hornady Single stage press with RCBS Dies for 360 buckhammer. Which Shell holders do you use, I am thinking a Hornady #2. I have a case trimmer and I may need to use a hornady single shell casing for that specific issue. How did you trim the case to keep it under 1.80". I am also in Pennsylvania right in the middle of mandatory slug or 360 buckhammer or other Straight wall cartridge. I just need to know which shell holder to use even if its not a Hornady shell case.
I don’t know hornady shell holder sizes, but there are conversions charts online. For Lee it’s a #3 shell holder.
There is a safety quotent built into all max loads by manufacturers. Still follow the directions just watch for any and all high pressure signs. If you find any like he said STOP! and go no further. This round would be a good candidate to build a rifle on. What is the barrel twist?
This is a phenomenal round no doubt. So far exceeding my expectations. Love the rifle as well. The twist rate is 1:12.
I just picked up this very same rifle and can't wait to get my dies and start reloading for it. I've shot the 180gr Remingtons and at 100 yds I'm getting 3/4" groups. I'm using a Primary Arms 1-10 FFP lpvo for my optic. I'm really surprised at the accuracy from an out of the box rifle with factory ammo. I'll be shooting suppressed and can't wait to load some subsonic ammo up and she how it performs.
That awesome beer. Mine is very accurate for a lever gun as well. I am going to be putting a silencerco Hybrid 46m on mine at some point this year.
@@avidwaterfowler7522 the hybrid 46m is what I'm using had it since 2018 it's been a great can.
Great video, thanks!!
Glad you liked it! I think I will incorporate a little more metallic reloading into the channel.
Pretty cool!! Need a follow up with accuracy reuslts (maybe chrono numbers too?)
Hopefully next week.
I just got my data sheet from Hodgdon dated 28 Aug 23 and it calls for the 9 1/2 Large Rifle primer. Not the Magnum. This is just a heads up.
Maybe they changed the data, but the loading table I shared in the beginning of the video is from Luke at Hodgdon. It specifically calls out Remington 9-1/2M primers.
are you using any 30-30 cases and making your own 360 Buckhammer cases?
I’m using factory Remington 360 cases. I fired factory ammo initially. I will be hunting this Saturday with my hand loads.
My favorite lightweight scope. I have a few different generations of them.
They are a fantastic option!
Great video. I emailed Hodgdon around a month ago asking about the load data for this round but they didn't have it yet. I'm still playing around with it a little but I'm getting pretty good results with Lil gun and 200 gn Hornady FTX bullets with large rifle primers. What are your thoughts on using the Lil gun for this cartridge?
I would assume the lilgun and H110/296 would work. They may not get the velocity you’re looking for. I can’t find any 35cal bullets locally for some reason, but I would think those FTX would make this a 250yrd cartridge.
@@avidwaterfowler7522 Thanks for the input. I'll try the powder you're using on my next round of reloads.
What is the starting load using Titegroup? The data sheet shown looked like it was blank on starting load line.
It’s blank because it’s a subsonic load. You could possibly work down if you wanted slower, but thats up to you.
Just began reloading for my 360 but 35 caliber round nosed bullets (358") are as rare has hens teeth from any site I've used thus far. I opted to try some bulk blemished 200 gr polymer tipped spitzers but found with my RCBS die set the bullet seating plug destroys the polymer tip. No luck thus far finding replacement seating plug that specifies use for these style bullets. Will have to resort to drilling a cavity in the plug that came with the set I guess.
Are you using this spitzer bullets in a lever gun? Not trying to be a smart ass, just don’t want to see you pop off a round in the magazine tube. You can find .358 bullets online. Try midway, graf and sons, and midsouth shooter supply.
As for the seat plug, that’s exactly why I went with Redding dies. That is absolutely nonsense that RCBS send the dies with a flat seater stem. I was told, if you can them they will send you a different seater stem.
Call rcbs and ask if they will make you a plug.
@@marklewis9594 I already sold the dies and bought Redding dies. I’m a Redding guy anyhow.
can you reload these with Hornady FTX ( flex-tips ) 200 grain bullets , .358 diameter
Absolutely. In fact, you’ll probably get more accuracy like I did. Get them going 2300-2350 and you’re golden!
338 federal heck yeah. I really like to hear your load data on the 338
It’s one of my favorite cartridges. It’s really an amazing round for what it is. I’m currently running a 200gr bullet at 2625fps with h322 powder. I could get faster with a ball powder, but the consistency was single digits with h322!
You live in Delaware county or something?
No, I live in carbon county, but occasionally hunt Md.
To get rid of all of that static charge, just wipe the inside of the clear plastic with a dryer sheet.
Yes, I know. But some powders just seem to be worst than others. This is one of the worst.
You should do a video on the trigger install. Mine definitely needs an upgrade, it’s about 7 pounds according to my gauge
I could do an install video. Wolf prairie does a good job of that as well.
Where did you get the 360 buck hammer reload data at?
I bought mine from accurate arms and ammo in PA (online of course). Just an FYI, but Midway USA has them for 80 and 10% off of everything reloading
I put a dryer sheet in my powder dispenser when not in use, seems to cut the static out of it.
I have tried that with some success, but some powders just seem way worse than others…
Working on a 180 grain Speer flat nose with lil gun in my new buckhammer. Brass doesn’t seem like it’s going to last very long though
I’m not entire sure there is room for any 180ga bullets in my future since I hunt mostly thick woods. Why do you say the brass won’t last?
@@avidwaterfowler7522 I’m just experimenting with the 180’s. I like the 200 grain round noses better. As for the brass, with it having a rim, that shortens the life of it unless you make it headspace off of the shoulder. That’s what I do with 30-30 to extend its life. Well the buckhammer has no shoulder so its headspacing depends solely on the rim. Then to make matters worse the brass is the thickness of 30-30 brass but it has much higher pressures so that’s going to hurt the life of it also. Mine seems to stretch about 0.007” every loading

I have loaded mine several times with no issues so far. However, I’m not expecting 20 loadings.
What are you're best 338 federal loads?
My best load is a 5 round group out of a savage model 11.
Starline brass
CCI LR
43.4gr H322
200gr hornady SST
SD of 7.2 and ES of 20 at 2625fps
What kind of speed are you getting?
@@rexking3698 I edited the reply. I’m getting 2625fps. If you look for that one alliant ball powder, you can get into the 2700’s but not sure about accuracy. That’s for 338 fed of course.
@@avidwaterfowler7522 thanks. I'm shooting a savage model 16 weather warrior bear hunter
I lost intetest in the 350 Legend for the same reasons....!
I couldn’t agree more.
This round is the old 38-55 they could not make it the 38-55 because their are to many old rifles that could not handle the pressure of this round look in your reloading book for the 38-55 and you will see that i am saying you might want to the 200 grain flex tip from hornady i used this bullet for my 357 maximum in ohio i am glad that they came out with this round and 35 cal bullets i want to use 180 grain for the maximum to deer hunt with and be careful with the 1680 back in the 1980 at silhouette matches the T/C wouldn't unlock after so many rounds shot good luck with your new rifle
It’s definitely fairly similar to the 38-55. The big difference in these new rounds is they up the maximum operating pressures. I’m a huge 35 rem fan, but the cartridge definitely suffers on the velocity front because of low operating pressures. A great example of cartridge versus pressure: If you look at the 450 Marlin, it’s a 45-70 designed to run at higher pressures. They made specifically for that reason. Most 45-70 ammo runs a the lower operating pressure to accommodate older firearms.
I do have FTX bullets already since I already had loading components for 35rem. These are next on my list for trial. Since I mostly hunt thick PA hardwoods, the 200gr round nose is a solid choice overall.
Is ur 450 a bolt or Ar
It’s a Ruger American Ranch bolt action. It is awesome!
@@avidwaterfowler7522 I got the American go wild camo I got a load worked up c.o.a.l is 2.375 using Barnes ttsx 250gr an h110 47gr. Starline case an Winchester small rifle primers an no pressure signs fps 2690
@@kennethshoemaker2941 that’s the model my dad has. The 450BM is awesome! I load the 250gr FTX with 43.5gr of H110 and a cci450srm. I’m somewhere in the 2300+FPS.
It was just a thought cause they did it for me before.
I appreciate it, but RCBS dropped the ball on this seating stem. It’s almost like they didn’t even try.
@@avidwaterfowler7522 not like them. Well stuff happens.
No truer statement about hunting with slugs anymore. The recoil is downright abusive. Also I have yet to find a set of scope rings that will not pop off the rail. Seriously!! That's why I use my muzzle loader for all my firearm hunting now
You got that right. My dad had an encore slug gun that kicked so hard his finger would get cut by the screw that adjusted the trigger over travel.
Looks like 38-55 or 375 Winchester.
It looks similar, but it’s way more potent.
45 70 s little brother
I agree. I was thinking the powder burn rate would equal the 45-70, buts it’s between the magnum pistol powders and 45-70…. So I had to buy the CFE BLK, no big deal it’s pretty much everywhere.
I’m a huge 35rem fan, so this cartridge made perfect sense for me and I already had bullets in stock. The 35rem just can’t produce the speed this 360BM can since the operating psi is much lower. You’d have to go outside the book max quite a bit. The big advantage for me with the 360BM is I can hunt with it in MD where my father lives.
