    I have an important question. When you develop a RAW file in Lightroom Mobile, the product will be the same (in terms of size and resolution) as if you had done it in Lightroom for desktop?

    I have the 10.2 ipad, but haven’t edited on it. I usually edit on my MacBook, but I really want to start editing on the iPad as it’s a lot easier and lighter in my camera bag when I’m away for the weekend.
    I can still use my Mac when I’m at home, but if I get to using the iPad when out it’ll make my life so much easier.
    What is the best lightning dongle that people recommend?
    Need SD, Micro SD, USB (for external hard drive) and charging ( if possible) is there any dongle / docking station that anyone with the 10.2 inch iPad would recommend? Anker make the perfect ‘hub’ but it’s usb c and not lightning.
    Cheers for the info in the video. Really helpful!! I’m pretty new to this, so have only ever used Lightroom on the computer. If the original poster, or anyone in the comments can suggest any pointers for dongle &/or workflow tips, that’d be wicked!
    Cheers…

Is there a way to move the original RAW files + the smart previews that have been generated with my current edits, from the Lightroom cloud service to my iPad, so that when I am “on the go”, I can continue to work on them without having to wait until I re-establish a connection to the cloud via WiFi, or do I have to start all over and lose the changes I have made so far?

    I just bought the iPad Mini 6 and the whole folder system is completely alien to Windows, but I am creating folders in 'my files' to load my raw files into considering I may have as many as 4 gigs of photos on any particular day and I have lately been editing my photos on tablets with Lightroom instead of my PC, just more convenient, the iPad Mini 6 is quite fast and like you said Lightroom needs an import function, in lightroom when you edit a raw file on a Android tablet and save it as a jpeg or tiff it will get exported to a Lightroom folder automatically set up in your gallery, so I've had to create my own Lightroom folder in 'my files' to try keep things organized..

    Thanks for your video. I imported, edited, filled up my icloud storage and now can't get them back off in raw format. If I save to files or export, I get a jpg. And if I try to save directly to USB c, it takes ages then gives up without telling me. I have an ipad air 4. Icloud.com does the same, only allows download of jpg. Do I need to keep a copy of my raw files elsewhere and delete raw from ipad after editing, or am I missing a trick to get the raw back from icloud photos?

    thanks for the video, exactly what i needed and short and sweet. I'm fairly new to photography and I'm finding I do a lot of lightroom work on my ipad pro (lightning). just got a new imac with 27 inch screen so I do use the big screen for fine editing and for the less than elegant process of getting my photos from lightroom CC to my smugmug website. But i do overnight shoots where i take our camper out to one of the many photogenic places here in New Mexico, shoot late afternoon to sunset, go to the camper and edit, sleep, and go back out for dawn through sunrise. Being able to leave my laptop at home and just bring the ipad which fits better in my photography backpack is a big plus.

    Great video. When you import the photos to Lightroom and delete them from the camera roll, are the photos stil on your iPad and filling up your limited storage space or are they now all in the cloud?

    • @spyrosheniadis
      @spyrosheniadis  5 лет назад +1

      It depends.
      If you are subscribed to adobe’s cloud, then the full resolutions images are moved from Lightroom on the iPad to your Adobe cloud.
      On the iPad you’ll have Smart Previews, which are low resolution copies of the RAW files that are connected to the original.
      You can do any editing you would do on those smart previews, and if you do an action that requires the full resolution file, Lightroom pulls it from the cloud as needed. (Provides you have network access. If you don’t have network access you’ll have to wait to complete that operation until you get back to a network).
      And if you have sync enabled for a desktop/laptop version of Lightroom, the full resolution images are also synced to and are stored on the drive of the computer as part of that Lightroom catalog.
      If you are using Lightroom on the iPad but are not subscribed to Adobe’s cloud, then the images are still taking up space on your iPad, because they can’t be synced to the cloud and removed from the iPad.

      @@spyrosheniadis What happens if you import images from camera roll into Lightroom whilst OFFLINE, so they do not sync with the cloud, and then delete them from camera roll, before Lightroom has synced with the cloud?

    I’ve just started using a 5th gen iPad Pro however when I import my photos I am getting them show three times over! Once as the camera name, once as a heading of raw and once as a heading of unable to upload. Which ever heading I go into the photos are there apart from a few that haven’t uploaded (in the camera and raw headings) that do show in the unable to upload heading. The ones in the camera heading show as raw and jpeg written on the image. I am so confused why this is happening but some one suggested it might be because I have iCloud photo back up switched off because I don’t pay for cloud storage. Any ideas would be most welcome as I currently do not know how best to just upload from my sd card. I’d like to upload raw and jpeg to my iPad, edit the raw to convert to jpeg then delete files that are not needed. Thanks in advance

    Didn’t see the video yet, but I assume nearly all of this applies to iPhone too? For the most part, nearly all of my Lightroom editing is done on iPhone, and I surely would love to access my RAW shoots from the camera I use (DxO One, which I shoot in RAW there and maybe 2 “Super RAW” (4 RAW photos in 1, but needs proprietary DxO’s editing software, which is not on iPhone/Android ), but JPEG is “good enough” for some platforms, but I’d much rather use RAWs. I’ve been meaning to add a Lighting port SD card reader for a while now to my accessories, and hope this is a good convincing.
    Thank you, I’ll hope to enjoy the video and see the tips as I go! 🙂

    Hi, thank you for your videos. I have the 20 GB Photography plan, and am currently experimenting using both Classic and CC together (following your excellent video on this) by importing originals into CC which then sync to Classic. I will up the plan to include the TB of storage if I decide to import all originals in future into CC. Thinking about should I wish to go fully down the iPad route (doubt it but you never know - I don’t take loads of photos) and not replace my Mac when it is old, I have been experimenting with exporting from the iPad. What I have noticed is that JPEG photos exported from LR CC on the iPad are much smaller than those exported both from Classic and CC from my Mac - like about a third of the size. Is there a way to export larger files from the iPad?

    Great video. I go to a lot of photo workshops where Internet is not available and you also need to edit and share work via a Flash drive (ie instructor collects it and displays on their laptop etc.), I would really love not to take my laptop to such remote locations just to facilitate this. Today’s release of PS for iPad also means that I can do more complex editing up to standard on my iPad. And these workshops assume RAW shooting because they are fine arts oriented. So this is one piece of that puzzle,. I have one of the old 10.5 in. IPad Pro’s (I may actually upgrade if this is a viable workflow). This shows me I can get the files there (I can work out how to import into iPad PS without resorting to iCloud, I think it looks possible), then go from the iPad to FlashDevice, etc. and voila. I just unloaded several pounds from my hand carry.

    • @spyrosheniadis
      @spyrosheniadis  5 лет назад

      As of right now, no. With Lightroom on the iPad you have to import the photos into Lightroom before you can edit them. At this time, none of the apps that let you edit RAW files will allow for editing from an external drive. That may change in the future, but as of right now, the images have to be imported somewhere before they can be edited.
      What this new update will allow for is importing into Lightroom without having to import into the camera roll first.

    I had a 10.5” iPad Pro and now have a 12.9” 2018 iPad Pro. I do a some editing on my iPad and find its faster in handling files in a lot of ways. The one thing that holds me back is I usually take a lot of photos at events, sports, etc. I have not found a way to batch process like using the sync function to apply settings to a bunch of photos.The other issue is getting photos off the iPad onto something else not being able to use a flash drive external drive etc. Does anyone know how to sync settings to multiple photos on iPad? I know you can copy and paste settings from one photo to the next photo. Which seems to have stopped working recently not sure if that is a bug or what. But doing one photo at a time can be time consuming.

    Great video Spyro! I’m doing almost all my editing on my old iPad Air 2 64GB, which of course is not nearly enough space but I just like the mobility that it gives me to edit on the go. I use mostly ACDSee Pro for just light adjustments & crop or Affinity Photo for more complex edits but managing the files on the iPad is always a pain without a proper file manager. I tried many different workflows but not being a pro and shooting just for fun, my needs can still be covered by an iPad and I use my computer to store the results.

      The RAWs were taken with Sony a7r3 and a7s2.
      I tried a third party SD to USBC card reader as well as the original apple product.

    I get blank white images in my photos app when importing images to my iPad. Anyone knows why this is happening?

      Chris Mac Donald. It happened to me when importing from a canon camera. An update of the camera software solved it. Hope this helps.

    UPDATE. Since iOS 16 the import may not bring up the Photos App import dialogue automatically. You may need to go to Photos and then select device and import the photos before you can do the rest

    Or you could just save that money from the adapter and just import them into Lightroom (not classic) and wait a few minutes open your ipad and start editing...

    Great video, but this all changes soon with iOS 13 (which comes out in beta next week). iOS 13 is rumored to have a full file management system like the Mac has "Finder".

      I hope it does change. Well know for sure soon, and as soon as there’s an update I’ll be making a video on it. 😊

      I don’t mind the subscription cost. I think it’s more than worth the cost, but I also recognize that not everyone feels the same way.

    Does not work with iPad mini.

      Which iPad mini, and which version of iOS are you running?

    • @handydkman
      @handydkman 5 лет назад

      @@spyrosheniadis It is iPad mini 4, running iOS 12.4. I guess the problem is not enough power in the Lightening plug. I have tried to connect the camera with a Lightening/USB adapter. Same result!

    Cool. But what if you literally have 1000s of images? I took 5000 photos on my last holiday, this is going to be a hot mess!
