    "GET OFF MY PLANE!"
Fun Fact: Gary Oldman's performance earned him the nickname "Scary Gary" during production. However, he did not stay in character between the scenes. Wolfgang Petersen called the filming experience "Air Force Fun" because of how comedic and genial Gary Oldman and Harrison Ford would be off-screen. He also said that Gary Oldman would suddenly return to the menacing film persona instantly. Harrison Ford has since named Gary Oldman as his favorite on-screen nemesis.
Also, Harrison Ford and Gary Oldman are actually hitting each other during their fight scenes.

This was probably like the 4th or 5th movie in a row that Oldman played a villain, he said after this movie he didn't want to play villains anymore.

Wolfgang Petersen's commentary for the AF1 DVD is one of the best ever recorded. The guy loves filmmaking so much and is so involved in every aspect that it makes his running narrative a joy to listen to. His description of the scene where the plane almost lands but doesn't is a thrill ride in itself. 🤩

My view of "The mole" not revealing himself right away is this. I would assume that either he somehow met with the terrorists during his time at the White House, or was involved with the terrorists already and went undercover at the White House. Either way, that probably takes years to go undercover and recruiting someone already there is near impossible, so he would not want to reveal himself until there was no other option. There was a line in the movie that didn't make the cut, i believe the president said "I trusted you" and he said "So will the next president". All hope was lost for the current terrorist operation, but I'm sure others knew about it and he had done his job with this operation, which was to make sure they had access to the weapons cache on the plane. When there was no other option to get off the plane, being only one more could get rescued, he revealed himself, and if he had succeeded he could have said someone was still alive and killed the president and went on to work with the next president and the terrorists would still have an inside man. Idk, i may be totally off by this, but that's how i always took it.

    • @hbk314
      @hbk314 9 месяцев назад +1

He was definitely recruited because of his role. Heading the President's Secret Service detail is one of the most sought-after positions. It could be he was contacted while they were in Russia, as the whole operation seemed to be a response to General Radek's capture.
As for his long-term plans, I think he was hoping the terrorists would get what they wanted and release everyone, and he would go on in his role with nobody the wiser. Once it started to fall apart, he had to maintain his reputation as a loyal agent. The only way out for him at that point was the terrorists getting what they want, which was virtually impossible by that time, or Air Force One being flown to safety. He only revealed himself when it was the only way to save his own life.
While his motives aren't at all explored, it seems likely he was being paid for it. If he were a true believer in the cause, he'd likely have acted with less self-interest.

As someone who has been on board Air Force One a number of times I can tell you that the escape pod is not real. That’s something Hollywood came up with. There’s a few other things that are wrong but they did capture the essence of the plane and all that. Great movie!

Great movie, with one of the best one-liners ever!!
Ranked right up there with Arnold Schwarzenegger's "You're Fired!"
Gary Oldman is one of the best actors today.

    12:55 - I disagree with this statement.
The President, whether they like it or not, is a Public Servant.
Their free will is actually limited because they took an Oath to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution.
Ultimately, that is their sole purpose for their term(s).

For most of our history our president had been a general or some experienced military officer. After all , his primary role is the head of the military.

One of my favorite films from the summer of 1997.
Much like Independence Day (1996), we were given a U.S. president that spoke truth with heart and as an former soldier, no holding back in kicking some serious a**.
Gary Oldman in the 1990s was one of the greatest actors to play villains and as fanatic Egor Korshunov, perfect.
Glenn Close as the first-lady vice president (a first on film, pre-Kamala Harris) felt really believable in how she handled the situation.
The two main separate-sets, AFO (airborne) and Situation Room (on the ground) are directed very well.
The camerawork matches and moves along every space
perfectly just as they are IRL.
I like the action sequences between the aerial battles and the
confrontations on AFO, especially with Ford doing most of it and
just being the rugged actor he is.
Lastly, Harrison Ford as P.OT.U.S. is considered to be one of many beloved presidential portrayals (why not?).
It's because Ford can pull off real performances in action/suspense films and nothing wrong with that.
Hopefully you'll check out other classics by The late Wolfgang Petersen:
Shattered (1991), In The Line of Fire (1993) with Clint Eastwood,
The Perfect Storm (2000) with Wahlberg & Clooney and Troy (2004) which is amazing.

If you guys need help clarification over why the mole did it there is 2 sources.
The novelization of the film which stated the mole of the secret service did it was for money.
The second was in the script but it was cut cause "it took too long to tell.". But the mole was in the CIA and "lost a lot", and was angry at the American government and he knew terrorists from his days in the CIA and got them in while they did not know who he was to keep his identity a secret

When I think of president movies. I have 6 that immediately come to mind.
    1. Airforce One.
    2. Independence Day.
    3. Dave.
    4. The American President.
    5. White House Down.
    6. Olympus Has Fallen.
There are others but I'm fair certain that y'all can agree that the speech before the big battle in Independence Day steals a lot of the show and indpires you. Which is why it's on the list.
There are a decent number of reaction to this movie on YT. There are a handful of Dave and American President reactions (both are fantastic). Everyone has done Independence Day (including y'all). But no one does White House Down, and (only a handfull of) Olympus Has Fallen.
