@@easyenetwork2023 Yes on full-season, no on 10-race format. Someone on Reddit did the calculations for every Chase/Playoff format from '04 to '20, and the highest Harvick would've been is 3rd. 5th under most formats.
And yeah, he would've won under the full-season, but I don't put too much into that. I've watched since '05, so I don't look at everything through that lens.

I swear, Chase Elliott is set up to have an even better season in 2020. It's not just because there will be six road courses on the schedule, but because a lot of Chase's sub-10th place finishes were because of bad luck. For three races in a row starting at Indianapolis, he had a top five car and made his final pit stop early. The pit stop put him a lap down and it would've put him in an advantageous position if it wasn't for an ill timed caution. He finished anywhere from 11th to 23rd in all of those races when he should've gotten top five finishes every time. Twice he crashed late at Darlington and once he crashed late at Bristol when it looked like he had a race winning car. If it hadn't been for all of those incidents, he may have contended with Kevin Harvick for the best driver of the whole 2020 season.

  • @JonathanGaeta

I have a few suggestions for future videos about this year:
    Bad Seasons:
Kyle Busch 2020 (this can also be considered a Championship Hangover video as well)
    Ryan Blaney 2020
    Quinn Houff 2020
    JTG Daughtery Racing 2020
    Erik Jones 2020
    Matt Kenseth 2020
    Good Seasons:
    Kevin Harvick 2020
    Denny Hamlin 2020
    Alex Bowman 2020
    William Byron 2020
    RCR or Austin Dillon 2020
    Bubba Wallace 2020
    Matt DiBennidetto 2020
    Kurt Busch 2020
The one I’m in the middle of is MTJ. It’s debatable on whether he had a good or bad season this year.
    Farewell Seasons:
    Jimmie Johnson 2020
    Clint Bowyer 2020

    Championship Hangovers:
We all already know who it will be...
    Bad Seasons:
    Matt Kenseth
    Good Seasons:
    Kevin Harvick
    Brad Keselowski
That's it, now here's some bonus for the future (2020 Trucks and Xfinity):
2020 Good Seasons: Grant Enfinger (Truck)
2020 Bad Seasons: Johnny Sauter (Truck)
2020 Championship Seasons: Austin Cindric (Xfinity)
2020 Good Seasons: Chase Briscoe (Xfinity)

Strange coincidence that it took Chase just as long as Jimmie did to get his 1st Cup Championship, but only difference is less impressive seasons prior to that Championship.

Should have been the 2021 Daytona 500 Champion if it wasn't for NASCAR screwing up the finish. He doesn't have the drawing power of fans like Dale Jr did and there won't be another Dale Jr. Hopefully for us Chase Elliot fans (I kept my eye on Elliot since Dale Jr retired and Elliot found ways to lose races such as the 2017 Daytona 500 with him running out of gas), he doesn't pull off long winless streaks like he did to start his cup career.
He does have a shot to become a Brickyard 400 champion which is on a road course.

The coke 600 wasn't a bad pit call because no matter what he did he would of been criticized. Old tires he would of been rolled over on the restart, new tires and still managed to finish 2nd. We can't keep complaining about Alan when it was the right call imo Chase was just screwed from the moment his teammate spun out

While I believe the playoff system needs some reworking, I’ll say this. To be the champion in this format, you still must be a top 5 driver to have a chance to win it. Chase Elliott I’d say was the 3rd or 4th best driver in 2020, and take away the horrible luck in the beginning of the year with a few races, you are looking at an 8 win season for Chase, and an average finish similar to Hamlin’s (9.31). Yes, Harvick was overall the best, thought not with the 750 package. Chase is living up to expectations, he is gonna be great for years.

Let's be honest, it was Harvick's ship. Chase Elliot did nothing wrong as was great, but Harvick got screwed by dirty air and NASCAR not throwing a caution for rain at Texas sooner.
The format needs to change. No playoffs.

This way if thinking is intoxicating to the community. If the current format was the original format and the old format was the new one, Kevin would have won and y'all would have been saying "chase should have one, blah blah blah"... The rules were presented long before chase found his rythm and Kevin lost it. It's just the way it is. You either do or don't.

We may very well criticise the most random champion system in all of motorsport. Not because we hate NASCAR but because we love it, and we want it to thrive. And with a 'championship' like this, those who seek cheap entertainment may be pleased, those who love racing are alienated.
