Ewa Podles is a miracle... Bb2 - Bb5, later in music lesson scene C#6 - C#3! And she's not just a magnificent singer, but also an amazing actress! I can't believe she sang this role until the age of 65 (2017).
I love this production. I love the characterization. I have watched this over and over again and it's every bit entertaining. Love the singing and the acting. It's very enjoyable.
Man ! It's great to see _traditional_ productions. The costumes and colors are striking & hearing Podles, equally-so ! What an incredible voice. Her days of a more lyrical voice are long-gone ... but the replacement is almost super-natural !
The singing in this staging is perhaps not as good as in other stagings I have seen. BUT this'traditional' production was, taken overall, brilliant. In particular Devia as Marie had just the right balance between pathos and comedy, while Podles was the best Marquise I have ever seen.

Devia's singing is lyrically supreme although rhythmically not very exciting. Ewa Podles is superb in every way.
