- Herobrine, minecrafts mysterious legend who has haunted the game since August of 2010. Sending chills down the back of every player at a mere mention of his name, he became so well known that even Notch couldn't convince players he didn't exist. But what happened? How did he get so much attention?

No but I was scared about him
Make a video about entinty 303
I do have one weird example. I was just wondering around and noticed a tunnel going into a mountain. I went through the tunnel it was lit up by torches and then it just hit a wall and ended. I didn't remember digging that tunnel so for years I thought this was an example of herobrine. It was most likely just me forgetting that I had dug that tunnel after all I hadn't played the game for a while at that point in time. That's my only weird occurrence in minecraft. Make of it what you will but I probably just forgot about digging the tunnel.

Imagine them actually making him a thing in Minecraft, without saying anything, and as a actual boss mob beyond "The End."
@@LevenLappi I don't know why they haven't...other than they might not want to genuinely scare people. There's all kinds of lore that could tie into Herobrine being created and what he does that would be really cool.

He was my childhood nightmare. He's the reason why single-player Minecraft made you feel so paranoid, as if you're being watched.
The game wouldn't be what it is now without him.
Ha! I feel like that all the time when I play alone. I try to pretend that I am not being watched (mobs don’t count) but I feel like I am not alone and something in the cave or in the dark in the surface at night, could be watching.
the feeling sticks with you and some times you get paraniod it happens
When I was a young teen, I went through a phase where I didn't play on Singleplayer Minecraft at all and only multiplayer Minecraft because I was scared of Herobrine possibly appearing.
You know they should make to how to summon Herobrine and then it will drop an op item if he was defeated. If they did that instead of running I will make an afk farm of Herobrine.

I think part of the reason people were frightened of Herobrine may be due to Kenopsia/Kenophobia. A heightened fear of empty spaces, especially those where you would expect people to normally inhabit (liminal spaces). I've heard many similar things in regards to empty servers in multiplayer games or singleplayer sandboxes, such as Garry's Mod. The Herobrine myth was at its height before villagers were introduced in the game, and before the wild life was truly fleshed out. The world in Beta versions of Minecraft was populated by mindless drones that were either hostile or indifferent toward the player, giving the player a sense of eeriness and isolation. This probably led to the creation of paranoid delusions like Herobrine, Entity 303, Farlanders, and Haunted Worlds.
I used to be terrified of playing single-player because of Herobrine. The eerie atmosphere older versions had was creepy enough, which always led to a permeating sense of unease whenever I loaded into a survival world.
Obviously, I never saw him, but the idea that he could be watching my every move was enough for me to almost always play on servers and not even touch single player for the longest time. I was a pretty paranoid kid.

They need to make it truly creepy. Have herobrine's glowing eyes appear in dark spots and then disappear, leave redstone torches randomly around, make cave sounds occur more often, have herobrine hit the player and then vanish when the player turns around.
Have herobrine stalk the player for weeks before the boss fight.
@@hughmungus7015 nah, they wouldn't do that. Minecraft is not a horror game
I played on a Server called Dingocraft, which some of you might know. They had the Herobrine Bucket plug-in, which allowed for random Herobrine related world generations to appear and chat messages. The admins and some players were in on the joke, and messed with us. Thanks to that, I became a full on gamer and got some of the best experiences of my young life.
2 things about herobrine:
- The last removed herobrine message appeared was during 1.16.2

Back then, Minecraft was still a fresh game. The community didn't knew the game's mechanics, like it does now. Mods weren't as popular, as they are now, so when something weird was happening with your world, you had no context, you were really left in the dark to investigate the strangeness all by yourself. All these factors were what fueled the Herobrine myth, and why Herobrine lost his power nowadays.
It's similar to how ancient civilizations believed in many gods to explain different forces of nature, that today we see as nothing super strange and can explain it all with different scientific methods and experience.
Human nature has remained the same, and we can see history repeat.
*religion would like to disagree*

Ah I remember Herobrine so well. Whenever my friend would come over we would always play Minecraft. Anything that we thought was weird or strange we would always blame it on Herobrine or some other myth. I don’t believe in Herobrine anymore (obviously), we did experience some strange things in that world. Such as items missing from a chest (probably a chunk error), weird caves with absurd amounts of ore, cave noises, and we once saw a figure in the distance (probably a enderman.) I really miss those nostalgic days.
When i was younger i was playing minecraft PE on creative mode, i remember my brother joining my world, he was like 3 or 4 and only got an iPad recently. He started breaking a few blocks and I thought it was herobrine, i screamed and deleted the world with hours spent on buildings deleted (not that they were any good, i was like 5).
My brother: *Playing minecraft*
Me in a Herobrine skin: I'm about to end this kids whole Minecraft server.

I still being scared if i spawn in forest biome
I remember how scary he was to think of... you’re chilling in your own offline world without anyone else...and then you hear theories and stories of a mysterious entity moving freely through it
Is it just me that gets chills from Minecraft Cave sounds when playing by myself?
Not just you ;-;

I still always to prefer to have that feature turned off, aside from the music. I’m 23, nearing 24, and I can get jump-scared from whenever I’m mining in ravines and deep caves with the occasional mob falling near me. Playing Minecraft at night with a quiet house doesn’t help either. lol
Thats why I always have background noises
In the beginning, I feared the caves something about them was terrifying, and the idea of hero brine existing just made sense. It resonated with the eerie feeling I felt whilst playing my favorite block game. The lack of him or anything having been built from him was a missed opportunity on Mojang's part.
Herobrine just protects us in peaceful mode. I’ve had a chat with him over some cups of coffee, real nice guy.
This thing legit made me quit minecraft for like a year. Not even joking.
Same dude same
I quite for like a month after me and my friends treehouse was destroyed by him.... we were on pe, prob troll lmao
herobrine made me want to play MC even more back in 2012... so much nostalgia
Yeah I was like 12 an I quit minecraft for around 10 months
I was 7 at that time and he made it in my dreams but now i just laugh at him

Funnily enough, you are actually totally right and that may be what happened. All Singleplayer worlds after the Multiplayer update run on a local server on your PC. In the old days you could do insane stuff like edit a server's world file using clients (See the Avolition Video). It's plausible someone might have been testing clients and fucking with people back then.
If anyone wants to experience the feeling of having Herobrine in your world, then turn Smooth Lighting off, turn your Render Distance very low and switch to the old textures (the textures we had before 1.14). Or you could just play on an old version of the game. Or download a Herobrine mod. It's up to you.
Idk what it is about Smooth Lighting, but the game just creeps me out when it's turned off.
if herobrine were to be officially added in minecraft, the game would be a horror game. just the constant thought that you are probably being watched is already unsettling itself.

Truly, I saw him when I was younger. It was PE and I was playing with my buddies at the time. We were all standing together, traveling in a manner in which we could all se each other, when he suddenly appeared in front of us and caused lightning. One of them died while I left the game, the last remaining running.

I'm 17 and hadn't started playing Minecraft until He was already removed...can u tell me all about him....why did Mojang remove him?
I've never met Herobrine, but I have my own five cents to throw in this legend and my own “spooky” story to tell.
Back in 2013 (or 2014), I had a very surprising experience with Minecraft. Namely, I just loved to escape from reality and building enormous automated bases in modded Minecraft and then just fly around in the world of Minecraft (there was plenty of opportunities to build flying equipment in modded Minecraft even then). Just to get away from reality. And during one such flight in Nether, an English language conversation began to sound through my headphones, with a female voice commenting on my actions and wondering what I was doing. To which the male voice answered something incomprehensible, and then the conversation abruptly broke.
And now the facts:
1) I am not English and there was no one in my home except me at the time. I live in small village on one of the Estonian small islands. There was literally no one who could speak English (except me) in 100 km around my farmstead.
2) I have never logged in to multiplayer servers. I always played the single player version on my home computer.
3) there was old fashion ADSL router connection through ground line active but all other application were shut down, because of puny resources my computer
4) I've never played the vanilla version because I got introduced to Minecraft by watching Direwolf20 and members of the other modded Minecraft communities videos in RUclips.
My conclusion: in early Minecraft days, developers apparently preserved from beta period the ability to monitor Minecraft servers as well as single user versions remotely. This may have been one of the root causes of the Herobrine legend.
I honestly don’t know, was it Mojang or modding community developers in my Minecraft world back then.
I hope I'm not the only one that is totally DOWN with them actually adding Herobrine to the game, or at least something similar.
The concept of just this singular God-like entity, being the reason why all the zombies and skeletons exist, while also stalking you and your party, is a very interesting concept. Imagine if we could face him, and take him out. I don't want to feel safe in Minecraft. I want to be on edge, and I want to hate this thing that is stalking me to the point where I gear up to head into the Nether and shut him down.
I know we have the Ender Dragon, but that's not scary. The thing is, the Ender Dragon can wait, but Herobrine constantly stalking you, fucking with your dreams, planting some random shit around your base that sends chills down your spine, actually SEEING HIM outside your window in some cave or behind a waterfall with glowing white eyes...you have an incentive to go and take him out. You are engaed in territorial warfare.
