One big monster/mech as an opponent with various smaller units floating around the map (maybe randomize these or something?) And have various tasks the rest of the army incapable of actually fighting the big bad can accomplish ie: a squad of Incursors blowing up a bridge/support beam to limit the Chaos Knight from closing in on your artillery, a squad of Bladeguard escorting a tech priest to an offline AA gun to deliver a massive blow to the knight but there's a Chaos Terminator Squad guarding it. Meanwhile the Chaos Knight is getting crazy random buffs based off which of the four gods is blessing it this turn. Could be some fun times.
That would be a fun thing to add as an option; if you roll doubles on your roll, add a unit from another Imperium faction table (depending on availability). So while you've been mowing down hordes of IG... then a Questoris Knight shows up because someone rolled double 6s.
I’m so glad this has a single player option. Now I have a reason to paint my reasonably sized secondary army to try this out against my unhinged comedically oversized chaos army collection.

Played our first horde mode today against nids! Had a blast! Took a long time for us to get through 4 players while learning the rules but I think it was a success! 3 players succeeded in completing their missions. Thanks for the fun guys!
Just started Warhammer this year and this podcast has been a big help with understanding the game, but I may end up enjoying this coop mode more than the actual game.
Just discovered you guys last week. Been binging episodes nonstop. I really hope you feed your Brazilian well, he does exceptional editing work. I can't wait to get my more casual friends on-board. This game mode seems like the way I wanted to play tabletop miniatures (as my players would attest given the numerous "survive until X" D&D encounters I've subjected them to). Thank you guys for being absolutely amazing gems in our community!
This sounds like so much fun! Me and my friend are still learning how to play 40K and it sounds like a great way of getting the grips of how to play, while working together. Cant wait to try it!
As someone who has always wanted to get to play Warhammer but my friends are not as interested I think this game mode sounds AWESOME I am even MORE excited to finish my army so I can try this!
As someone who has been playing homebrew Horde Modes in 40k with friends since 3rd edition (just did a Horde Mode Helms Deep with my best friend a couple months ago), I will be all over this and hopefully I'll have enough time to play a few games and give some real feedback over the next little bit. I love the ideas of multiple formats! :D
Add a unmodified roll of 12 to the spawn table for something serious - like an astreus, stompa, or a knight to imperium allied factions - like a boss spawn
Im really excited to try this out with my play group. I just finished reading the rules and it looks like a lot of fun. Will defo leave notes where necessary after the first few games. Thank yall for the hard work.
This sounds incredible. Going from having to fight my friends Eldar every week to working with them would be a great change of pace. Finally the fate dice will work for me
This is such a great idea. A few friends and I did something similar back when Apocalypse first came out. It was 2 Guard players vs Chaos Space Marines and Daemons. Both Guardsmen each had a baneblade and my buddy had Creed and Kell. We were surviving by the skin of our teeth until "Ahngrath the Unbound" (The big Khorne greater demon Forge World recently retired) flew in, took out both baneblades, Creed, and Kell in a single turn, then took a Deathstrike missile to the face to finish the game. I don't remember how many turns it lasted, but if this is anything close to it, this is going to be amazing!
My gosh I tried my best to come up with something like this with my brother! I'm excited to see something so fleshed out and it looks like a blast! It has my cogs turning. I wonder if it could be reworded/reflavored to a point where this game mode could be used in AoS? I'll have to give it a go and see where I can line stuff up!
Finally Full scale Heralds of Ruin! With this being a community project I'm really excited to see how it evolves. Custom misery decks for Specific Hordes could be fun, and it would be easy to combine this with Crusade rules so you can link games into a full campaign!
There used to be a similar game mode called meatgrinder! We played meatgrinder games for a couple of my friends birthdays. We played mixed imperium vs tyranids. And then mixed imperium and allied xenos (tau and eldar) against tyranids. We might have played it against orks too. Edit: okay after finishing your video there’s a lot more to your game mode, I’m super excited to try it!
This is a great framework for my LGS Crusade campaign going on right now. Setting is a Tyranid invasion and some of the Tyranid players have gotten to the point where they have 5k crusade rosters. This would be a good way to have multiple defenders play against those players.
My gang and I have been playing Horde nonstop since we saw this video. We did a little bit of tweaking on the setup and turn order (we use one page rules turn order, with each unit playing until all units have gone once to end the round). We've had so much friggin fun! Though I will say, the misery dice giving Tyranids +1 to wound and hit was absolutely brutal, especially since we didn't let misery deck fall off. Round 3 had +1 to wound and hit, sustained hits, and shoot/charge on turns they advanced. So much fun!
I'm so excited to play this I was sold on the concept from the title alone but damn the rules look brilliant. I've phoned some old friends and we're gonna play a game with a guy who hasn't played since 6th.
When I first loaded this up, I was confused because I just thought "Wait, isn't this just Darktide?" And then I realized you weren't about to talk about a Video Game. This is amazing stuff.
I remember playing some homebrew version of Killteam when I was a kid in like 2004 that was kind of like this. Two opposing teams were infiltrating a separate third party's base to perform different objectives like planting a bomb or hacking a system, whatever. Each player would take turns moving the NPC forces in different patrol paths and getting into firefights with operatives who were discovered. I used some chaos Marines and my stepdad used some space marine scouts, our npc force were Tau with drone patrols. Lots of fun and it was my very first introduction into the hobby
Just found this and can't tell you enough how thrilled I am to try horde mode with my group! We are tight-knit group of 3 who have been playing games together for over 25 years now. Tabletop, Consoles, PC, you name it. We highly prefer coop games for many of the reasons you outlined in your video. Until now 40k didn't have that option. Again, so hyped to play coop 40k, chug down some beers and enjoy 40k without the stress that sometimes comes with a highly competitive 40k game against a close friend. THANKS for making this!
My FLGS ran a character based COD survival where each player controls one regular character. There are gun boxes to roll for, all kinds of pickups for rerolls, and buildings to give various permanent buffs (enhancements, access to strats, an FNP etc). The DM will drop new enemies as the game progresses and it gets brutal.
I've already got an idea to play this with a mate. We've been having a few games between my K-Sons and his Votann, but we could quite easily slap his Necrons into the mix and suddenly the nerds and jocks need to team up against a bunch of sleepy skelly boiz. We've also got another friend we're wanting to get involved more in the hobby so def worth experimenting with him
I very much appreciate this!!! I have been developing a simpler version of this for my kids who get furious with each the other if he wins, but y'all did a much better job than I would have. Love your channel BTW.
My friend and I tried this out today. My necrons were the horde, with my friend playing Votann and myself playing his Aeldari. We absolutely loved it. It's a fantastic way to learn other factions without the dynamism and occasion stress of PvP... and to get a taste of everything that usually frustrates him about my necrons for myself.
I remember when I was a kid with a friend whose family collected tons of miniatures. We did a horde mode with one page rules, with 40k and lord of the rings miniatures. There was no maneurving as we were just kids but so much artillery and sharing the hirde actually started to breach the walls until they were depleted. It was so dumb, but so fun.
Tried this for the first time last night myself playing 1000 pts admech vs a genestealer cult hoard. I got screwed hard by the charts and ended up with 15 aberrants with characters leading each on turn two. I could not clear either of them out and just slowed them down with bodies. Was pretty fun
Horde Mode is amazing. I used this to get a friend of mine into the hobby in general playing over TTS. I use this when making fun lists like Pure Dreads and Tech Marines in Space Wolves. If you have TTS and time, pick any army you like the look of make a list around the Combat Patrol or 1000 point list you have and have fun. Tyranids and Orks being the horde has been the most fun with me and my buddy. Love the future of this mode.
I just turned my city's 40k scene onto this. Its so dope I blasted all our discord servers with links. blessings of nurgle and attention of the hive-mind to all y'all!!!
I love how the collaborative experience encourages powerful fun rules combos, where in the base game you’d need to nerf it because of the competitive environment
52:00 Just combine them for 7RP and call it Roks. Roks (7RP) - Throw space debires at the battlefield - "Select a target (including ground), deal 2D3 MW in a 9" blast marker to all unit within or touching the blast marker. Remove any ruins within or touching the blast marker. (Can only be used once per turn by the entire team. Can not use Fortify Positions in the same turn by the entire team. If Fortify Positions has been used this turn, you can't use Roks this turn).
Exceptionally well done guys, rules look solid and can't wait to give it a shot. I've been trying for a while to make a mixed rulset between 40k's setting and Crossfire and know first-hand how incredibly frustrating this process can be. Cheers to your efforts, and can't wait for an official publication!
This is outstanding, I have semi-recently moved to a swing/night shift thing that made Mon-Tues my weekends instead of Sat-Sun, this might allow for meaningful interaction with the hobby as a solo player usually and with others on those rare occasions it works out
This is amazing!! I have a handful of coworkers that are into 40k. And my partner just started 40k for the first time, with Tyranids. Im definitely going to share this, and email you guys with the results!!
This sounds very fun, the idea of factions that would normally KOS each other having to work together so that they don’t get absolutely obliterated, I can imagine them winning, killing the horde, and then the imperium faction instantly killing the other factions.
we just started a 40k group in work and it's a very mixed bag of experience when it comes to play. I am totally suggesting this as I think it's actuality such a great idea for the reasons ye mentioned! Looking forward to this now.
I love playing nids and I have been waiting for this to be able to use my army as an unending swarm to run into my friends with no thoughts; this is awesome
as soon as i watched this for the first time (in the middle of video) i already assembled players to play this. looks amazing, can't wait to put my model collection to use :D watched second time now and checked some documents, especially summoning tables, as i will be the "horde player", and this project definitely has future. great job, guys
this is a brilliant idea, i live in a rural area and i basically have no one to play with, this is a entire game charger for me and i’m so excited to give this a try.
This seems like such a great way to learn the game rules! As a new player I'm stoked to try this out with some other newbies so we can fight the good fight together!!
Man, it would be a blast playing this with over 20 players. I recently joined a 40k 12 vs 12 mega game and it was absolute chaos, with my Banesword dealing over 50 mortal wounds via blowing something up. Some of our more senior members have a very large collection of models, especially orks. Imagine the amount of units that can be fielded and the chaos it would cause

Finally the fate dice will work for me
This looks great! Thank you so much to you and your patron for providing this awesome game to the community!
This is perfect, I’m getting into 40k and this is a nice way to include my brother without competition against him
"Orbital drop Buildings" is within lore. The Rogue trader RPG had an addon for your ship that airdropped a church
Very fun, thanks for taking the time to put this together. Looking forward to giving it a go at my FLGS after the New Year.
Giving the gamemode a try this weekend with some friends, very excited to try it!
Thankfully you reminded me of the pleasantries at the end.
Oh, wait! I'm safe. I insta-like every video while the first ad is playing.
I'm so excited to play this I was sold on the concept from the title alone but damn the rules look brilliant. I've phoned some old friends and we're gonna play a game with a guy who hasn't played since 6th.
When I first loaded this up, I was confused because I just thought "Wait, isn't this just Darktide?"
And then I realized you weren't about to talk about a Video Game.
Love this, and have already shared it with my community. If I ever find an in person community again I'd love to pitch this to them as well!
wow this is awesome! Now all I need is friends....
This sounds awesome!! Can't wait to play this.
This immediately brought me back to the days of The Last Stand, I’ll be having a field day with this thank you!😭😭😭
Thanks for putting this mode together! My son and I are just getting into 40K and this seems like a great way to learn the basics together.
I’m so excited to play this with my group, saw the video and pitched the idea. We’re all gonna play it this weekend!
I don't even play the game anymore. Life, kids etc. But damn, this makes me wanna play again... Amazing job !
This seems amazing, and could be what gets me into playing 40k and not just reading lore and building models
This is such a good idea, I could really see getting the family involved with a mode like this
I've already got an idea to play this with a mate.
I would love to try this at a tournament with all table's decks being in the same order.
I love how balance works in PvE game. It so good.
Can't wait to try this out, my buddy told me about this and it sounds so fun! My servo turret is gonna be fire for this mode as well 🤙
Oh man “DMing” for horde hammer sounds awesome. Imagine playing horde hammer in a boarding action. You guys have made something truly special here.
this halloween one of the staff in the halloween half term break made his own co op zombie mode
This sounds absolutely ace. Itching to try this with my friends.
we just started a 40k group in work and it's a very mixed bag of experience when it comes to play. I am totally suggesting this as I think it's actuality such a great idea for the reasons ye mentioned! Looking forward to this now.
I love playing nids and I have been waiting for this to be able to use my army as an unending swarm to run into my friends with no thoughts; this is awesome
I don't think i've ever been as excited to get some games in as I am right now, excellent work guys!
This looks really interesting, I wondering if I can use this to trick my non 40k board game friends into playing 40k.
as soon as i watched this for the first time (in the middle of video) i already assembled players to play this. looks amazing, can't wait to put my model collection to use :D
watched second time now and checked some documents, especially summoning tables, as i will be the "horde player", and this project definitely has future. great job, guys
I love the premise 0:35 and y’all have yet to disappoint!
So happy this mode is taking off even slightly tried it once single player and it was pretty fun cutting down nids with a small squad of elites
This format seems like a right hoot. Been sending this vid off to assorted mates. Well done you two!
this is a brilliant idea, i live in a rural area and i basically have no one to play with, this is a entire game charger for me and i’m so excited to give this a try.
I’ve sent this format to my friends (mostly not warhammer players) and I’m really hoping I can get them to play it. It’s just such a cool idea
This seems like such a great way to learn the game rules! As a new player I'm stoked to try this out with some other newbies so we can fight the good fight together!!
Finally an episode just for me!
