Take this Express train every morning - Rt. 59 Naperville to Union Station - 40 minutes. It,s fabulous, Those from Chicago know that if you tried to drive downtown from Naperville on a weekday morning it would take 3 hours because of traffic.
+Commercial Realtor I'm Western European, we have one of the best regional rail networks in the entire world, but some people still prefer to commute by car and then get pissed because they waste 4h each day standing in congestion. I really don't get it, but hey, at least the trains aren't even more crowded than they already are.
SPEAKING OF NAPERVILLE ILLINOIS I HAVE FIVE COLLEGE FRIENDS WHO ARE SPECIAL NEEDS WHO ARE AMBULATORY RODE THE AMTRAK TRAIN # 6 "THE CALIFORNIA ZEPHYR " FROM OTTUMWA IOWA TO NAPERVILLE ILLINOIS AND AS WE ARRIVE ON THE OUTSKIRTS OF CHICAGO ILLINOIS WHICH I WAS MAKING MY TRAIN CONNECTION FOR NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA TRAIN # 59 "THE CITY OF NEW ORLEANS " I HAVE SEEN THE METRA RAIL LINES RUNNING THE BN LINE BETWEEN CHICAGO AND AURORA ILLINOIS AND I KNEW THAT NAPERVILLE WAS ANOTHER STOP FOR THAT COMMUNTER RAIL AS WELL AS AMTRAK AND MY REACTION WAS AWESOME TOTALLY AWESOME THANKS FOR SHARING IT IT HAPPEN ON NOV. 15, 1990 FOR MY FIRST ROUND-TRIP TRAIN EXPERIENCE WITH AMTRAK
Cool the way the regulars are all clustered around the soon-to-be door positions at the first stop. Creatures of habit. A testimony to the reliability of service.
I remember hearing steam freight trains on this line during the night while hospitalized at St. Anthony's Hospital in early 1957 seen on left 36:20. The children's ward faced the tracks and I think it was on the 3rd or 4th floor.
Umm... I honestly don't know a lot about Trains, But I was under the impression that as an Engineer on any Train Engine You're supposed to blow the Horn @ every Crossing. This is a Great Video don't get me wrong, but I noticed the the Engineer on this express train failed to Blow the Horn @ every crossing. I honestly don't think that the bell system on these Modern Train Engines is Loud enough for people in Vehicles to hear while waiting @ a Crossing. Plus you might get some Idiot that doesn't pay attention to the crossing signal & ends up causing the Train to Wreck the Vehicle. If you can please enlighten me as to the horn laws thanks.
This specific line is a under a federal no horn "quiet zone". This relives the engineer of the universal requirement to blow the horn all the time. He or she can still sound the horn if specific conditions warrant it. You are indeed correct that outside a "quiet zone" engineers are required to sound the horn at all grade crossings. My understanding is that all sidewalks have pedestrian gates on this line.
It is a quiet zone to appease to all the Karens in the suburbs who complain about everything even though the railroad was there before their cute little house was.
I am going to start making videos of metra rides in the spring & summer. I'm going to record full rides to & from Chicago on every metra line! Stay tuned for this spring & summer!

Commercial Realtor i take the same train once a month, refreshing from driving every once in awhile
Awesome! My dad ran these trains for many years - but worked more in the Cicero yards. He loved it, but hated the railroad.

I think you have your Caps Lock on.

There are many travelers who use your train. My congratulations !!! It's better than traveling in their car.
Nice trip!
34:21, Abandoned MJ Railway roundhouse, to the very far left.
Listen to the flat wheel. Needs a wheel turn.
+Egil Hop -Flat spot.
+BILL COOLEY Oh yes, "flat spot" is the correct term. Thank you.
Poor sounding bell....clunk clunk clunk clunk clunk
Enough with the cackling hens already. Some women just never shut up. Off in less than 2 minutes.
Plug up headphones and blast the music very loud
Me too
these karens who complaining about train horn really dont know that they can cover their ears
6:40 - EJ&E?
I think so...
no horn at grade crossings
+Mark-Andre Bailey FRA quiet zone.
+Mark-Andre Bailey That's where the mechanical bells take the place of horns.
Now it's a voice that tells you when the train coming don't need the horn no more..
Thank God I am not married to the woman talking in the background..She never shuts up.
MrJerbrad I hear you
Who?
MrJerbrad who?
MrJerbrad I feel U dawg!!!
I like when she speaks. You don't know what is loneliness, don't you???
I had to mute the sound or I’d never make it
I've been on this express run... pure heaven skipping past all those stations at 70mph. No better feeling.
one thing I like about train videos are the random conversations in the back ground that you can't really understand except for the occasional word.
One of the best Metra coverage out there. I wish I could see more...
I'll see what I can do, but I live on the east coast.
Excellent video! Thanks for sharing!
Wow, such a crappy rail condition, seems like US stuck with railroad of 60's
Ironic that metra literlly rebuilt their old emd locomotive that aging and order the new alston cars
Middle Class neighborhoods Metra did not use train horns, get by Austin Blvd they use them 🤔 foh
Alot of the suburbs that this train goes through do not allow train horns.
i noticed a WB Amtrak at 6:55....by any chance do you know which Amtrak train that was
Train 381

Playing this video exactly the same time as my current metra bnsf line schedule. It’s like I’m watching a live cam of #1230 this morning 😀
43:20 I SAW METRA 210 SEE IT?
Yeah what about it
I remember hearing steam freight trains on this line during the night while hospitalized at St. Anthony's Hospital in early 1957 seen on left 36:20. The children's ward faced the tracks and I think it was on the 3rd or 4th floor.
more platforms?
Looks like the railroad equivalent of a turnpike
Do it again !
At 34:25 the building burned down in 2016
Edit: in the background
I tried not to listen to the conversations that were going on. As a train lover, I thought this video was right on track!
Good one 😂
A close kin of Prof. B. J. Gumby can be heard amongst the passengers.
Awesome video I love the former CBQ racetrack. It is a very fun and beautiful piece of railroad to watch.
I took this train for 33 years!
Nice video I subscribed
Playing this video in 2X speed and dreaming about HSR in America....
This train halls ass, beats driving!
Riding the racetrack :)
Wish they had sent us down track 2.
I've rode quit a few of these up front, just like a cab ride!
35:50, the Gallagher house is on your left.
No horn?
Two long ahead of the grade crossing. One short at the grade crossing and one long through the crossings.
Does this train have an exemption?
Whole line is pretty much one giant grade crossing quiet zone.
Notice Amtrak f40 40:45
Cabbage car I believe.

its a quiet zone. Basically the towns told the trains not too.
It is a quiet zone to appease to all the Karens in the suburbs who complain about everything even though the railroad was there before their cute little house was.
Wish they showed station names!
This isn't a Pantex DVD!
Always happy to travel with you.
Great ride! My son and I are looking for Metra fans and subscribers! Peace and Happy Metra!!!
I am going to start making videos of metra rides in the spring & summer. I'm going to record full rides to & from Chicago on every metra line! Stay tuned for this spring & summer!
Fun stuff!!👍😎
seems bigger than Penn Station. what do you think?
+Igor Furlender In what way? Penn Station is a station, not a terminal and has higher capacity.
What a Beautiful city!
How much the money a ticket?
+Raymark Statam I'm sure I could look it up, but it was something like $5-$7. Super cheap.
okay
I know it;s $7 to ride all weekend. On the weekdays fares may be different.
dvferyance 10 dollars now they ass taxing
IMO...the best line in the Metra system..
I wonder why there's such a huge express run.
Railfan64 Look at the schedule. METRA uses zoned service.
워터파크 역
Why doesn't the train stop at each station?
+philis05 Um...it's an express train.
LOVE IT
What is the noise at the beginning of the video?
Cab car bell
Yes I asked my sister and that's what she said
Too much chatter.
It's a regularly scheduled peak period train xD
During peak commuting hours, Metra designates the second car from each end as a quiet car.
