- We take a look at Blanca Quiñonez and how the UConn Roster is shaping out in 2025-26. Will UConn look to add Lara Somfai or Agot Makeer and could this be impacted by Caroline Ducharme?
Once again, just a stellar review. No one really knows what will happen in the future, but man, UConn is stacked, and I am jacked!
Thanks
I have coached women's basketball from middle school up to division 2 college and have watch UConn basketball since 1995. In my opinion Blanca Quinonez has the potential to be the most unique player to ever play for the Huskies. I have wathced hours of her games and feel she has an amazing combination of defensive and offensive athleticism, speed, court awareness, and passing ability. NY Liberty writer, Alcott Corriette, was on the podcast, Locked On UConn Women's Basketball, agrees with me. He even believes she could develop in a year to the point to skip college and play in the WNBA. She is also very poised when interviewed.
The former wnba player pouring on the praise very likely knows what she's talking about. Plus, Geno, with his uncanny knack for locating stellar foreign talent flying just under the radar, offered. That's all I need to know.
Let’s all hope for the best for Ducharme health-wise regardless if she is able to make it all way back as a basketball player.
IMO we are going to see several portal entries after this season. To many players that have lost court time because of injuries. These kids want to play significant minutes not 10-15 which many of this year's team will be playing. As for Caroline who has always been my favorite player since she arrived on campus (I believe she can be a prolific scorer) her health is much more important. When she arrived on campus Geno always had a twinkle in his eye when he talked about her. I do not know all the rules/regulations about graduation and health benefits, but I applaud UConn for sticking by her. Conference should be a breeze, regardless of who is on the court, just watch minutes and combinations played in the non-conference games. Team will go as far as Paige takes them in the end.
I believe Somfai has been the top target for UConn since the beginning. Her commitment to UConn is a near lock. And I believe the addition of Blanca is a sign that UConn will not land Makeer.
Ducharme and Fudd will leave the program after this season. Fudd will head to the draft with Paige. And Ducharme has some eligibility left and may get a chance to play basketball at a smaller school somewhere where she can get some actual playing time.
The departures of Fudd and Ducharme and the addition of Somfai put UConn at 13/15 scholarships. Next year looks like a rebuilding year. So, UConn may want to add someone via the portal.
Aubrey will also be gone. And Chen
If Paige, Azzi, Caitlin, Aubrey and maybe Caroline leave . That would make plenty of room. Geno might have to tranfer in a senior because he won't have any. A leader type of player
Saludos cordiales a blanquita Quiñonez te estoy siguiendo pilas lucha por ser la mejor
I think that Azzi and Carol both leave after this season so yes they will have spots for Agot and Lara if they both want to come. If we could only get one of those two I hope it's Somfai. Makes me nervous that she's got a visit to Stanford coming up, her dad is a HUGE fan of this school.
Azzi leaving or staying is going to depend on were she’s at in the draft if she’s not top 8 I think she stays
you don't stay for a 5th year at a school like uconn when you are a practice player or average 2 minutes a game. and i think that is caroline's role this year. she is on the team. hopefully she will graduate and earn her degree. and then that will be time for her to move on.
The chronic injuries have severely cut into Azzi's college court time, of which she will likely want (& possibly need) more. Plus, should Uconn grab #12 this season, Azzi may say "Thank you, I want another." If healthy, she's not going anywhere IMHO.
@@BobbyMick-c5bif Azzi comes back strong in Dec/January and balls up to her talent level and they win the Natty, she will leave along with AG ( back in Feb?) and Paige. Not sure CD ever gets to play this year.
@@glarris1 Well, at least your right about Aubrey, she has no choice. Neither you, nor I, know what Azzi will decide. I 'believe' she will return. Time will tell. With one more year of eligibility left after the upcoming season, Paige has publicly stated that "this is probably my last year", so I think she will 'probably' move on.
Welcome Blanca to UConn. Let's go Huskies !
You forgot kia Nurse - she was awesome!
Yes I did
My choice for Roster spot #15 is: Lara Somfai
Azzi is staying another year at UConn through 2025-2026? If true that’s a huge surprise to me!
no, i doubt it. she has eligibility though.
@@TheDisruptiveOne so does Paige. But Azzi is in this video as if she’s staying through 2026. I also heard she’s leaving after this season.
She already said this will be her last year at uconn
I think if Azzi, once she is back, manages to make it through the remainder of the season healthy she will likely go pro.
Everytime you start naming international players that played for Uconn, you keep leaving out one of the best ever - Svetlana Abrosimova..
Svet & Shea are considered the best combo ever in the history of Div 1 basketball. It's a shame that both got hurt a month apart.
Somfi for sure.. only thing we don’t have a lot of is SIZE
Agreed; the more bigs the better. Don't want to risk having to play a four guard line-up again, especially if one of those guards isn't Paige.
Why can't they receive nil
Uconn tends like the 61, 62 guards, but they need the height
They gave her something
I don't think Ducharme will ever play again.
Dang, there's a lot of bad news there. I hate seeing hurt kids whose injuries linger.
How old is she
I’m a huge UCONN fan. Generally, I have no objections to the international recruits as they appear to be a bit more mature however, I don’t wanna see us seemingly de-emphasizing recruits from the NY- NJ area as these recruits besides being good ballers they tend to be more athletic and have more of that dawg in them. I hate seeing our recruits becoming less athletic. Btw I will definitely pick the Australian, Sumfai over the other recruit bc of her size and her athleticism.
Only two Huskies played injury free last year for the most part. Both foreignors. Aaliyah and Nika. Aaliyah had a busted up face but came back with a mask. American players are soft.
Conosco la capacidad de la jugadora blanquita Quiñonez le va air bien
You keep calling Lara Somfai "Laura"...
Yea, I do. I do that to a girl on the U10 Basketball team that i am coaching. She hates it as well. need to do better.
I say either one. I wouldn't put it pass Sonfai if she doesn't go to UCONN to go to Syracuse because they have two Australian players on their team. I think one of the players name is Wooley
she's already narrowed her choices down to duke, stanford, and uconn, so it's out of those three
Minor nit. TYhe YT image showed uniform #1. Obviously photoshopped. Geno doesn't let anyone wear #1.
@dougpost8958 There you go. I changed it to 11.
@@back2sports 👍
Azzi will stay another year. She needs to actually play more basketball
why does uconn like the international players? because UConn is struggling to recruit in the US. it is really that simple. they are trying to hide their recruiting weaknesses.
This sounds stupid UConn is literally signing top recruiting classes every year lol
@@MarineJohnson-pq4ed they get one target they really want and call it a day. last year Strong. This year Somfai. Next year Vukoso.
@@TheDisruptiveOne UConn signed Chelli and Ziebell both Top 10 recruits with Strong
KK Arnold and Shade were Top 15 the year before
Brady and Patterson were both Top 5
Azzi Fudd and Ducharme were Top 5
Paige and Aaliyah Edwards were Top 20
like what are we talking about here 😭
@@MarineJohnson-pq4ed most of the last few classes feature players that were either overrated or uconn failed to develop them. (I don't know which option is worse.) I think the wrong profile of player is being brought in.
Too many skill players. Not enough athletic players. Too many slow players. Maybe some players with size, but they will never be able to guard the athletes at south carolina, nc state, lsu, texas, notre dame, and usc.
there is a lowering of standards taking place at the program. and that is reflected by the fact that this team hasn't won in like 8 years.
@@TheDisruptiveOneyeah, one year ago in the final four, a penalty away from the championship game with a compromised roster. But yeah, heavily under recruiting and performing 😵💫
Jeez can you at least try to say her name right
I said her name how she pronounced it in an interview as thought she knew best how she wanted her name pronounced . ruclips.net/user/shorts4dSJ25f0PTo?si=g3LJ84a-pfEnTKbX
Uconn has to like the international players because great American players no longer want to play for Geno😅
Geno said that recruiting to the East is as easy as to the West because the distance and travel is just as easy. I think he's pretty much scouring the whole globe.
#1 Sarah Strong plus highly rated Freshman Morgan Cheli (rated 11) and Allie Ziebell (rated 7 by ESPN) are all from the USA.
Because these newer girls are spoiled, lazy and feel entitled. Let them go elsewhere and be nobody's.
He’s signed nine Top 20 American players in the last 4 classes. In fact, Jana stands alone as the only International player on the roster this year. Foolish comment.
6 of the last 10 ESPN Hoopgurlz #1's signed with UCONN. You don't know diddly. Stop embarrassing yourself with foolish statements.
