I just got through my ritual, came here to say that and record this down so that I have a reminder to never have to do that again lol. Good luck to everyone going through anything similar, those intrusive compulsions will pass!
Listen man do not reward yourself for doing a ritual. Everytime you do that, it's a failure. Don't wait till you finish a ritual to make the decision not to perform ocd compulsions again. Make that decision before. As long as you still Associate any pleasure with doing the ritual it will keep coming back.
My granddaughter is 10 years old and has OCD. She received very effective treatment and has understanding of her condition and tools to deal with it (she is highly intelligent). I cannot imagine what it must be like moving into adulthood without treatment or diagnosis. It is certainly not mild and wasn’t just making sure everything is neat and tidy.
Just started my own channel and its taken a lot of guts as I have suffered all my life with OCD but your site is amazing and really encourages me and others to challenge OCD. thank you so much for spending the time to help people like me.
Thank you for sharing, I went through similar experiences and feelings but tried to do it on my own. Now after 10 years from my lowest point I'm finally working with doctors to help
Strange to think the compulsions are a choice, but the anxiety isn't. I thought, and now think even more that we need to prioritise recovery, really take space every day to stand back and look at our OCD situation, and of course deal with it in accordance with ERP and the acceptance of uncertainty. Some DO fully recover Nick, I wouldn't limit your possibilities. All the best, and thanks for sharing.
I'm suffering from the same thing. I always leave my room organized, clean, spotless then come back to check from time to time. If someone entered my room, I'd have to start all over again, thinking my room was disorganized, unclean again when it looks as it was before someone entered. I wipe my things, sweep the floor all over again. It really consumes me. I know something's wrong with me, I hate it but I just can't stop it. I really hope I can overcome this.
Hey @letris, thank you for reaching out. We can’t offer advice on social media but we’d really recommend you reach out to your nearest headspace centre. You can find the closest one to you here: headspace.org.au/headspace-centres/. If visiting a centre isn’t an option, we also offer free online support via eheadspace headspace.org.au/eheadspace/. Here you can connect with a clinician 1-on-1 and talk about what’s on your mind and get information about what help is available. In the meantime, you may find our 'What is OCD?' resource helpful: headspace.org.au/explore-topics/for-young-people/ocd/. We hope this helps 💚

We should all take care of our mental and physical health both equally important. Nobody is strong mentally that they need no help. Testosterone charged macho men need to seek help as they do so much damage.
