Hey there Driver. So glad you took the time to drop by to check out today's video. Tell me, have you ever been in the situation where you were getting hung out to dry over an accident that was clearly not your fault? How did it turn out? Love to hear from you.

Don't tell the cop anything, let your company's lawyers deal with it.

Though if they are an owner / operator, they have to be even more diligent.

My company has forward facing dash cams in all our trucks and I still bought and installed my own. It saved my ass and my carrier a week later when someone backed into me in the pilot in Syracuse. The company unit only does still images.

Not just trucks, all vehicles should have dash cams in 2023.

Before the advent of dash cams, you’re right, the cops almost always blamed we truck drivers for accidents, which is just about the stupidest logic that human beings can conjure up (and they can come up with some REAL beauties, lemme tell ya!), but now even the cops can’t twist the logic around in a video. Neither can the armchair quarterbacks in the Safety Department either! Overwhelm them with evidence to support your case. Give them hairs and fibers if you have to! 🤣

Yes, all valid points. It's hard to swallow to take the kick when you know you've done the right thing. Thank goodness for the dashcams and camera phones.

Then comes the problem of corrupt cops, judges and insurance companies!

Dave, the most important part of what you just said, is the camera. It doesn’t lie. People who freaked out about the driver facing camera, but go ahead and ask your safety department to show you some footage of what it looks like from their perspective. It’s actually a close-up shot of you from just above the top of your head to just below your chest. It does not capture

Spend a bit of time before with an attorney and print yourself out an accident cheat sheet of what to do and say as a memory aid. Do not ever lie to the police, but be very careful before saying you, as the driver, did anything wrong. Keep a notebook and take detailed notes: direction of sun, weather,. peoples' names and addresses, any witnesses. Hopefully the facts are on your side. If not, do not make things worse.

Man dude you are clearly an experienced and knowledgeable person about this.
I had my first accident period and im building my case right now. Heck even similar to your story is I was cited as well when it clearly wasnt my fault even with a witness!
I had the green light after a protected turn from on coming traffic. I proceed to go straigh when 1 lady turns on red left and i break to avoid them only for a second to do the same and collide with my vehicle.
    Crazy stuff

Some people consider me a "techno-phobe" and, I'll admit that I'm definitely NOT one of the first in line for many new things (I didn't get my first smart phone until about 2015). However, one technology that I did embrace almost immediately is dash cams. I put one in my big truck first but now have them in all of my vehicles. I've never had any accident, chargeable or not, in my 30 years otr but, there's always a chance and, a dash cam is cheap insurance.

Have cameras everywhere you can stick one on your truck & if possible have two drones flying in front of the truck & on behind the trailer. If you’re rich enough hire two or three cameras crews to make a documentary. : )

Maintenance is also huge. In a bad accident, injury attorneys will blame you even if it wasn’t your fault by trying to use the “reptile theory” to get juries to blame the trucker for driving a “dangerous” truck. Make sure you are in full compliance with FMCSA regulations and all maintenance is up to date.

Isn’t it best to wait to give a statement until your company’s lawyer is present so you don’t say anything wrong and they try to get you fined or jail time
