As I've been saying elsewhere: Lovebites is what happens if Iron Maiden and Dragonforce have 5 beautiful girls that are raised on JRock.

Miho (bassist and group founder, along with absolutely insane drummer Haruna, who by the way is a Helloween fan) is a big Maiden fan, so no surprise there. And they did a UK tour with DragonForce a couple years back.

The symphonic keys in the background are composed and played by Miyako (guitar-dark hairs). She's a fantastic keyboardist (she only started playing guitar at 18 !!! ) and plays some Chopin on their live DVD/Bluray soon to be released. You're so right about transitions - they know how to keep a song interesting (Miyako is their main composer ).

There are some new release vids from lovebites 5 of a kind concert held in February 2020 brilliant show I have the blueray not one bad song and excellent sound some song titles
Opening song with intro Thunder Vengance shows their more thrashy side , Holy War , Raise some Hell , Dancing with the Devil , We the United , and Signs of Deliverence and Edge of the World . You get everything from power metal to thrash metal to heavy rock with their shows sometimes all in the one song . Swan song shows off one of the guitarists piano skills as well . Great reaction hope you do more of these ladies they are truly masters of their craft .

great reaction, if you listen to some Lovebites songs, you will realize they sound like european power metal. These are my song recommendations and you won't be disappointed:
    Lovebites - When Destinies Align
Lovebites - Under the Red Sky
    Lovebites - We The United
    Lovebites - Break the Wall
    Lovebites - Holy War
Lovebites - Epilogue (ballad song and you will listen to Asami's vocal abilities)
    FYI
they won the Metal Hammer Golden Gods 2018 (Best New Band) and became the first female band (Japan) to perform at Wacken, Bloodstock and Graspopmetal.

I've been a fan of Lovebites since this year. And that minisolo after the main solo gets me every time. And while basically all of their songs kick ass, I don't think any has better riff than Shadowmaker. It's just and earworm and hypnotizing.

  • @robertpalka1491
    @robertpalka1491 4 года назад +34

They are fantastic. Within a few weeks of discovering them bought several of their albums. Apart from Funny Railroad Crossing's recommendations, would add Rising as well. About the members, the tallest one - Miyako (The guitarist with dark hair) is 5'2. The shortest is the drummer (Haruna) at 4'8 or so. The band was formed by the drummer Haruna, and the Bassist Miho (she has over 400 heavy metal band t-shirts...). Haruna and Miho used to be in a band called Destrose. The singer Asami actually comes from an R&B background. lovebites is her first metal band.
Now, you said you wanted Japanese recommendations: Warning: loooong read ahead. I need to warn you - be very careful of Japanese rock/metal. It’s a rabbit hole that people don’t get out of. Sorry if you have reacted to some of these already. I did look through your channel to check, but might have missed it.
Some say Lovebites is the best power metal group, others will prefer a band called Aldious. Also an all woman band, Aldious has a bit more variety in their songs (some really poppy ones, in a good way). Again, great guitarists, what a voice (though the vocalist changed recently. New one is also good. Good songs to start with: We are: ruclips.net/video/sfkJT0rra-8/видео.html
    Re:Fire: ruclips.net/video/RJcbEnxqV1k/видео.html
    Believe Myself: ruclips.net/video/gl9CEdZ0Fro/видео.html
Next up: Unlucky Morpheus. A good example of the quality in Japan - you’ll be hard pressed to find sloppy playing and half-arsing.
Each member actually plays in another band - this is a bit of a side project, but they're taking it more seriously these days. The singer, Fuki, is in 4 other bands, and is also regarded as one of the best metal vocalists in Japan. Apart from amazing guitars and drums, the band also has a violinist. Yip, she gets to do some solos too in some songs. Power metal violin. Some of their songs to check out:
    Unending Sorceress: ruclips.net/video/PCv3s0T4bx0/видео.html
    Knight of Swords: ruclips.net/video/TiQdl2toBtg/видео.html
Cadaver/Redavac (with sheet music) (they play this song forward, then switch the sheet music and play it backwards): ruclips.net/video/_yrNRhIreyE/видео.html
    Black Pentagram
Fuki did a colab with Syu from Galneryus (one of the best guitarists in Japan): SYU from GALNERYUS(GUEST VOCAL:Fuki)「REASON」: ruclips.net/video/958z1pk9_Ns/видео.html
Another of Fuki's side project is Doll$Boxx. The rest of Doll$Boxx is a band called Gacharic Spin. Well worth a watch. Metal with synth. "Take my chance" is comical and wtf, in the best possible way (yes, that is the drummer's real voice lol): ruclips.net/video/mu2z4Uf9Tgc/видео.html
They are all very legit ladies though: ruclips.net/video/ZWJk5oEULf8/видео.html, "Loud Twin Stars": ruclips.net/video/R2itu5KEvG0/видео.html
    More bands:
Ningen Isu. They started in 1987, but only found fame worldwide last year, with their first trip abroad this year iirc. Their song “Heartless Scat” is a classic. Think Japanese Black Sabbath. These guys are GOATs. There is a vid of Kanami from Band-Maid doing a guitar battle with the guitarist from Ningen Isu on a Japanese tv show. Well funny.
    Heartless Scat: ruclips.net/video/CbI79e5iZKs/видео.html
BabyMetal. They need to be on any J-Metal list for what they’ve done for metal, especially J-Metal. Their live performances are a sight to behold. Their world fame started with the song “Ijime, Dame, Zettai” in 2014 at Sonisphere: ruclips.net/video/Ro-_cbfdrYE/видео.html
Also check: Road of Resistance live in Japan. Several thousands fans, and Su has them in the palm of her hand: ruclips.net/video/zTEYUFgLveY/видео.html
    Karate by BabyMetal: ruclips.net/video/GvD3CHA48pA/видео.html
And you will also no doubt love Rondo Of Nightmare (With Mischiefs of God Intro). The band members get a chance to shine proper: ruclips.net/video/OV9uNKohP0o/видео.html
Galneryus. If you love Unlucky Morpheus and Lovebites, you’ll love these guys (Mentioned the Fuki and Syu colab above). Again, dual guitars, great drums, great vocals, great everything. Their main guitarist Syu is pretty famous in the metal world in Japan. Some songs to check out:
    Destiny: ruclips.net/video/-hL-iO86vdI/видео.html
    Angel of Salvation: ruclips.net/video/nsi9HEmZl9Y/видео.html
    Raise my Sword: ruclips.net/video/prBxPljqt0M/видео.html
Mary’s Blood - There was a band called Destrose. Some members left to form Lovebites. Other members left to form Mary’s Blood. More Japanese style power metal with technical perfection (Personally prefer Lovebites though)
If you’re looking for the Japanese version of SOAD, but maybe even crazier, then Maximum The Hormone is your band. They’ll mix 5 genres into 1 song. Always be on the lookout for the next change up lol. You said you love transitions?
Some of their songs (really, just choose any. They don't fit into any one genre, always something new): Yoshu Fukushu is my personal fav, not as mad as their others though: ruclips.net/video/beN5ep5MrdY/видео.html
A popular one by MtH: Alien: ruclips.net/video/TdwT5JlH8gM/видео.html
Next: Wagakki Band - you’ll be lulled into thinking this is some traditional Japanese music, before they melt your face. Metal on traditional instruments.
Ok, this is getting too long, so quickly, other relatively popular bands or ones you might find interesting are Bridear Their songs Ignite, Ghoul), Mardelas, D_Drive and Asterism (love this one) (they're both instrumental bands - no vocals), Scandal, Yuzukingdom (eg their song Eyes Shut Tightly, or National Anthem. The singer is actually in an Idol band, and this is her side project to let her growls out lol) , Nocturnal Bloodlust,... There are more. Have a list of near 100 bands. Not even touching Visual K and some other genres. Other folks will make even more recommendations, and you won’t go wrong with pretty much any of them.
Let’s just say you’re in a helluva ride with this J-Rock/Metal rabbit hole.

Lovebites are my second favourite Japanese all female bands, ahead of Band Maid. They rival them in every aspect and their live performances are wicked. My No1 is Scandal, mix of rock, pop rock, ska, reggae, ska, grunge even edm and jazz and blues. They all sing, do songwriting, arrangements and have their own label called Her. They are first big all female band created 14 years ago and with Aldious and Mary's Blood and partially Bridear they paved the way for 100's of all female bands now active in Japan. To add on the lists from others, Asterism and Nemophila are also really good.
Miyako (lovebites) is the second solo guitar in video plays keyboards, bass, backing vocals and does most of arrangement and song writing for the band. Their influence is Dragonforce as many have pointed out, besides many other bands, including Gary Moore. I recommend When Destinies Align and Epilogue, one of the best ballads out there. Oh and I call the drummer Energizer Bunny :D

For other Japanese bands: Here is my "starter" list for anyone who wants to dive into the world of Japanese female-led rock, punk and metal bands. I see some folks have already given you lists of recommendations, so there will be some overlap here. All my recommendations have links.
This list is mostly alphabetical, except for the first three, which are at the top of the list for historical reasons. They set the table for the explosion of Japanese female hard-rock, punk and metal bands.
Show-Ya (the original female J-metal band, founded in 1981, before Metallica-this is from their 30th (!) anniversary concert-and they are still touring): ruclips.net/video/oJ_5Gv3vFjQ/видео.html&pbjreload=10
Shonen Knife (The world’s first bubblegum punk band, founded in 1981. They have done several world tours. They also perform as a Ramones tribute band called Osaka Ramones): ruclips.net/video/w9LUlYzOiWs/видео.html
Destrose (This band was never stable, but has become almost mythic in Japanese metal history, because so many great bands spun out of Destrose, including Lovebites--you will recognize the drummer and bassist): ruclips.net/video/7o7fktsBwQg/видео.html
Aldious (Glamorous and kick-ass rockers-one of the first generation all-girl metal bands, along with Destrose) ruclips.net/video/sfkJT0rra-8/видео.html
Asterism (not all female, but will melt your face off- the guitarist Haruka Noma is off the charts talented and still a teen-ager) ruclips.net/video/IfxMi0Bx4x0/видео.html
Band-Maid (OK, there are 90+ great songs by them. Here is a live clip): ruclips.net/video/FHpuEqMAcDg/видео.html
Bridear (Heavy, technical-and the tiny bassist also growls): ruclips.net/video/LQIDqudG_DQ/видео.html
Disqualia (Destrose spin-out, featuring Narumi, one of the best guitarists of this generation) ruclips.net/video/-M5zBKrTJRg/видео.html
Doll$Boxx (insane mix of metal, electropop, and god-knows what else ) ruclips.net/video/mu2z4Uf9Tgc/видео.html
existTtrace (one of the earliest, progressive, technical, some death-metal and goth touches) ruclips.net/video/Oz1Lv8XGBF0/видео.html
Fate Gear (super-group, one of the Destrose spinouts-this single video is one of the best in this list): ruclips.net/video/tLQbsoKQN-0/видео.html
Gallhammer (Death punk; this is from their 2007 UK/Europe tour): ruclips.net/video/2fTiyOO1nZE/видео.html
Galmet (straight-up death metal, but in prom dresses) ruclips.net/video/PnvrOLeRt-I/видео.html
Ganglion (Metal with a hint of electronica)
    ruclips.net/video/q9j4t3Ms-Sg/видео.html
Lovebites (most recent track, even better than Shadowmaker IMO): ruclips.net/video/hLFelI93VkM/видео.html
Mary's Blood (The first major Destrose Spin-out: Saki murders her guitar without breaking any nails): ruclips.net/video/MLM2unV0kwU/видео.html
    Mutant Monster (Punk-pop):
    ruclips.net/video/Fd6ymMR40NU/видео.html
    Narumi (solo prog-rock composition-change of pace) ruclips.net/video/cRyCaHjwIgk/видео.html
54 Nude Honeys (early Japanese punk, from around 1990-they toured the UK and Europe): ruclips.net/video/jHnJSoGN5Mk/видео.html
    Otoboke Beaver (thrash punk): ruclips.net/video/fkWfFXnLpYg/видео.html
Rie aka Suzaku (instrumental guitar) ruclips.net/video/m6Z2GD5SqNs/видео.html
Tricot (Post-progressive math-rock, very technical, crazy time signatures and polyrhythms) ruclips.net/video/P_B_GalsJrE/видео.html
Sonic Lover Reckless (Special project of Miyako Watanabe, one of the two insane Lovebites guitarists): ruclips.net/video/DXZ-qhxd1VI/видео.html (easy on the eyes too!)
Unlucky Morpheus (Female lead (Fuki) and violin (Jill). This band is a deep well unto itself, they cross many subgenres of metal; Fuki and Jill also do other projects and Fuki is lead for at least two other bands including Doll$Boxx, above): ruclips.net/video/V8i_QhOgsKw/видео.html

Great work! A very thorough list. I just pile on some more for the fill up:
Mitsuru, one of Bridears guitarists is going solo now: ruclips.net/video/Nr4cRvopXkw/видео.html.
Hazuki, Disqualias other guitarist is in a Band with Lisa-X now, a 16 year old guitar prodigy (even for the standards of the japanese rock scene): ruclips.net/video/PzsqmnEa89c/видео.html.
Nemophila is a super group formed by Mayu (ex-Lipstick), Saki (Mary‘s Blood), Hazuki (Lisa-X Band), Tamu Murata (ex-Soramimi) and Haraguchi-San (ex-Hölderlins) and they are awesome: ruclips.net/video/eyb2NtPwcxc/видео.html.
Toranoko Rammy mix Punk Rock with anything else, so no song of them sounds quite like the other, therefor here are two links: ruclips.net/video/mJxGpFO0Bag/видео.html, ruclips.net/video/WALE0GWQWsM/видео.html.
Cyntia started on Aldious label Bright Star Records and went on to be the first female metal band to be signed to a major label: ruclips.net/video/6LbAmew4OZU/видео.html, sadly they already disbanded.
Zettai Club played some great prog infused Power Metal: ruclips.net/video/-NrVwg9lDpw/видео.html, sadly they disbanded earlier this year, too.
Dual Alter World is a side project of Ryu, the guitarist of Blood Stain Child. So they are not all female, but since you would not guess it on the first look: ruclips.net/video/AnAmvy4Am98/видео.html.
Mardelas, also not all female, but Marina their vocalist is another Destrose alumna and has an incredible voice: ruclips.net/video/Wd8P7wTnWJs/видео.html

Miho (bass) and Haruna (drums) formed the band in 2016 with Midori (white guitar), Miyako (black guitar, piano) and Asami (vocals). Miyako is the primary song writer and apparently did not start playing the guitar until she was 17! She will also will play a little Chopin during a concert. Remember what I told you about Japanese ladies and their abilities playing musical instruments. Well ,here they are wearing white mini-dresses! They wear white because they all are around 5' to 5'1", except the drummer and she's 4'10" maybe, so they are seen on the dark stages they usually performing on. They were touring Europe with Dragon Force before the virus and you missed their on-line concert about a week ago.

I've been suggesting this one, so here goes again: "When Destinies Align" ruclips.net/video/hLFelI93VkM/видео.html The camera really dotes on the girls, unlike Shadowmaker where it's all dark. And the shred-fest between the two guitars is at an even higher level. Heart gone, face gone, promise. Have an ambulance on stand-by.

Lovebites were started by the bassist, Miho when a band called Destrose sort of stopped, they didn't split, no one could agree on that. Miho want to start a band that paid tribute to 80's power metal, most people thought she was mad, but the drummer from her former band agree to join, then they got the others in. If you want one that is really an 80's song try "The Cursade" it's an open love letter to 80's power metal.
If you want another sick Japanese Band, try Unlucky Morpheus. They call themselves a technical, power, melodic, speed metal band. They hit like a freight train and keep going.
Unlucky Morpheus - "Black Pentagram" or "Unending Sorceress" should be a good place to start.
Another for you Aldious - Dominator (live). The band that rekick started the female metal bands in Japan.

    Japanese rock band recommendations:
Wagakki Band - traditional/hard rock fusion, one of the few bands I feel comfortable saying is completely unique under the sun
Hello Sleepwalkers - guitar-heavy punkish alternative (I'd recommend ruclips.net/video/Zxwe-nfZJyM/видео.html, Shinwa Hokai - "Mythology Collapse")
    Sokoninaru - post-hardcore trio with mind-blowing instrumentals

So, I saw your new listing for "When Destinies Align" and, before watching, reading "2nd reaction to Lovebites" I came to watch your first LOVEBITES experience. Very enjoyable! (from a devoted LOVEBITES fanatic perspective). A bit surprised it's taken you 4 months to find another of their songs, and another older release at that, but I'm not complaining, as "When Destinies Align" MV is amazing, almost as good as the 'live' from Five of a Kind concert.
I'm gonna suggest, in the interest of TRANSITIONS (an aspect I admire as well, as a drummer/guitarist) "The Hammer of Wrath" at this link: ruclips.net/video/S3vjrVtAvzE/видео.html
Although this omits pre-recorded intro, "Awakening", it still mesmerizes me each time.
Thanks for promoting LOVEBITES, AND for the excellent audio balance with your mic and retaining the stereo mix & dynamics of the music. Now off to see "When Destinies Align"

@@TheChampOfMedium You might want to read my comment on your "When Destinies Align" video. It includes a somewhat detailed 'critique' of your 'process' in doing "reaction videos" (hint: favorable). I think LOVEBITES management is beginning to understand the BENEFIT of "reactors" on u2b, and I have been supportive of reactors' "no cost to management" promotion of their artists with my messages to them via Twitter Direct Messages. I have also sent "reactor" links to two LOVEBITES band members on Instagram which received "heart" responses from them.

Man, I used to request Lovebites Shadowmaker from like, every single reactor who was doing Babymetal and Band-Maid, and nobody ever did it, so eventually I figured that they must be checking view counts or something and figuring Lovebites weren;t worth their time because they weren't as popular as the other two. Eventually I gave up and stopped doing my daily "Lovebites Shadowmaker reaction" searches. I just got a weird urge to search again, and all of a sudden there's like a million Lovebites reactions, mostly for When Destinies Align, but there are a few for Shadowmaker too, so I guess it was the new album that triggered the sudden interest, which is cool and everything, but it still kind of bugs me that nobody took my word for it. But anyway, I've been watching a bunch of them, and most of the people reacting seem to have pretty good ears, including yourself, and I've been leaving the same comment on their reactions as I'll leave on yours, which is that two of Lovebites biggest influences were Iron Maiden and Helloween.

The closest genres to describe there music is progressive neoclassical metal.

I like thrash but not a huge power metal fan. Any japanese girl bands similar to Metallica?

You should have reacted to a live Lovebites video, anyway I think Mary's Blood is a better band, check out Bloody Birthday ruclips.net/video/PmBwEmmHnVA/видео.html.

Women like that could only come from a place like Japan. Japan is one of the least feminist countries in the world.
NO positive action, NO forced diversity, NO Quotas, NO victimhood... Feminine, strong, beautiful and VERY talented

Interesting. I liked your reaction. The voice doesn't work for me. If I'm going to listen to female singers, I prefer something more like Tatiana of Jinjer or Courtney of Spiritbox. I could listen to all of the music of this without the vocals and would be happier.
