This is a very good interview. On the point about the PA controlling the grassroots in the opposition wards, I agree fully with Viswa, it is counter intuitive but let me explain. How many votes does the PA influence to vote for the PAP? Probably hundreds, for those who participate in the activities. How many votes does the perception of the PAP being unfair, influence to vote against the PAP? Many thousands. Most of the population live their lives without any interaction with the community grassroot organisations.
If they think through this, they will realise why they lost Seng Kang.

PM Lee apologised to the voters in 2011. We are still seeing the same old problems (and more) in 2024 and as Mr Singh said, the needle has not moved significantly. How long do we have to wait then? I also agree with Mr Singh that the votes will not change much from the last election because I think the voters just want the government to change and not change the government. History has shown that the massive turnouts at opposition rallies and all the KPKB by the voters etc will not turn into votes for the opposition. Don’t take the ‘sentiments’ and ‘views’ from the ground too seriously. Voters still want to have the cake and eat it. The ruling party will have some concerns but it’s far from a dire situation for them yet for at least the next few elections. Don’t blame the PAP for doing the same thing over and over again because it’s the voters who keep giving them the thumbs up every five years. However I do think that the declining birth rate is not just a global trend but also citizens taking a more negative view of the future.

Middle income, with family including children and parent are the worst. Neither here or there, no significant payout and sandwiched between 3 generations and have to take care of their children and parent needs before their own. Meeting needs is already a problem, retirement is something they fear of thinking. There are alot of missing middles for this group, easily can swing the votes because all these issues like cost of living and housing are wicked problems not exactly solved over past elections and it is getting worst. When engaged on these problem, its either flanked or not addressing the problem directly.
But its such a pity Inderjit not serving anymore. He knows the Job to be done framework.

    • @nicholasgoh3526
      @nicholasgoh3526 7 месяцев назад +2

Don’t put too much faith on these voters. These are not new problems and we have not seen any swings before. All your coffee shop KPKB will not turn into votes for the opposition. We might see a slight decrease in votes for the ruling party and that’s about it.

I think there are some potential women DPMs in the current government and in the opposition Worker's Party - potential woman leader too. As usual, dun qualify for public housing, neither can afford pte properties! The recent changes in hdb classifications n policy changes dun address the high BTO prices. They are merely distractions n changes the focus to localities n its effects. Even the recently introduced interim rental allowance while waiting for BTO with income ceiling n rental types still squeezes them out. This is a category who are not entitled to many grants, yet dun get even 1 cherry pick of public housing.

With truthful MP like him, Im taken aback how bad the governance and policies are. Those of us who volunteer and see MP working know they are decent and hardworking. Its policies like GST 9% and the unhinged prices that force people to go the other way.
You ended with "Trust". I don't trust the government. You go to sengkang, some of the people waited 20 years for a hawker centre to be built. Trust? You tell people to have children and the childcare cost is absolutely insane even after government "subsidy". 50 year balance HDB leases can see a 30% hike instead of following the Balas table. Mind you, I'm thankfully incredibly healthy, I never step into a hospital but that one, phew.
A lot of these problems are not new, they happened in 2009, and you allow them to repeat in 2020-2022. And Mr Singh, you're right about WP. Actually, you don't even have to put very good candidates to win. I think the policy formulation better have some improvement or get new people to write them, people with on the ground experience. Based on how good some PAP candidates are, they don't deserve to be sullied by poorly formulated policies.

Biggest problem with pap now: they only can field civil servants who have a different way of thinking about politics. In fact, they get so uncomfortable when WP is politicising an issue. They expect WP - rightfully voted in - to be subservient to them. Bloody joke.

@@windydragon6522 PAP don't really field just civil servant, but the minister and legislation are dictated by a bunch of civil servants who all group think and don't factor in average people.
And they are literally producing bad fiscal policies and can give wrong money. WP the candidate honestly are not as good, the minute theirs is better than the PAP people will pounce on the opportunity.

    Question :
*Are Singaporeans able to AFFORD COURAGE TO AFFORD DEMOCRACY ?*
Do Singaporeans Dare to Speak their mind if they are not happy with any policy?
Do Singaporeans understand Democracy is not waiting for permission to think?
My Politically Correct Answer is , Singaporeans have balls of steel able to afford democracy.
I hope to be given permission. Thank you , you

The younger generation should be taught how to APPRECIATE GRATITUDE the hard way, they should be taught a painful lesson on the consequences of weaponizing their votes, they would be wiser to think very very hard if they ever vote against the PAP...if the younger generation ever think its a good idea to bring in the opposition to power, they should study their history and ask their foolish predecessors about Operation Cold Store

Is the current housing crisis really due to land constraints as PM Wong explained recently? I am not sure people understand how much more land we can actually free up for the masses by simply reducing private landed housing for more public housing. This "lack of land" is only a problem because for too long the comforts of the rich have been prioritised over the basic needs of young people nowadays. Do better.

Advice from the ground : 1. Stop acting morally superior (example, revenue generating sin taxes should not be used as a tool. Think carefully who is actually footing the bill) 2. Stop PA's (People's Association) cultural appropriation, rife with pink outfits. Leave the cultural inputs to the Clan Associations.

What’s inconvenient about them? They are basic questions any right minded person would be asking.
Mind you, that is always a faction that sees conspiracies everywhere but thankfully, they are a minority. Still. Unlike other countries… so we will still have a sensible government for a while… but nothing is ever set in stone. All it takes is one madman, or megalomaniac, and we c are screwed…
