Seriously, I was diagnosed with lung cancer early in this build, and it wasn't looking good. Somehow I managed to beat it, and in all sincerity, wanting to be around to see Binky finished played a part in my resolve to beat it. I've been cancer free for 6 years now, and at this point I hope they never finish the car, it's looking like it's my key to immortality.

No it's not! It's in Black and White! I would have expected a 5 year, over-engineered AWD Mini to be in technicolor red, white and blue, BR Green and red, or silver. Anything other than black and white!

@@bigmal3128 I think that's the joke. After all the curiosity and debate on what color he'd pick, he DIDN'T pick any color. Obviously, they added some amazing details, and the quality is 1.72x10^10 better than the original paint, but essentially, he put it back to it's (or similar Mini) original scheme.
Gentleman, no joking, it's gorgeous, bravo. I'm an American that hates over engineering.... This is a mechanic's work of art. It's Binky incarnate.

When I saw the thumbnail for this episode, I thought they had chosen a green colour!!!
I was really happy, as I love green, but.......fuck. :(
Still, the final paint-job with the BOM logos looks really fantastic. I love this series, and have just finished my own restoration project that took two years. (Morris 1300)

denibbing fixes small runs, Trev's Blog showed how to fix big ones by filling over the run to make it easier sand off perfectly. but the spot they missed was deliberate i'm sure, we'll find out next episode in however many months ;)

@@girrrrrrr2 once i had a MK I in old english white with a black roof it was really a good color choice. (Other than a black roof can make the car really hot in the summer)
Now i have a MK3 in Almond Green with Old English White Roof.

Yeah, that was the initial idea, so great.
Love the details, the work ethics, the bracket and this channel has inspired a ton of people as well.

My daughter will be graduating High School in a couple of months, she was in the 4th grade when this project started. I fear that this video series will outlive several generations. It will be told in whispered voices amongst my great-grandchildren "once there was a car, simple and pure. Now it is more bracket than machine".

That's a gorgeously subtle paint-job. The logo really is like octarine, only visible to the cognoscenti.

The “ ghost” strips and roof are an amazing touch!
They really are! I've watched that part a few times, and with the hood and rosette parts, I'm still not totally sure how it was achieved.
@@TheM750 Pearls only reflect colour at certain light angles, so they generally disappear when viewed straight on.
I was awestruck.
Michaelangelo took 4 years to paint the Sistine chapel . So Binky is now almost twice as good as the Sistine chapel :-D

I just watched through the entire series in the past three days. This episode was the cherry on top. The amount of work you guys have put in to this is absolutely incredible. The paint job is stunning. Can't wait to see it back together.

When this series started I was in grade school. I'm retired now.

That “hidden” pearl is an amazing look, really matches the attention to detail of the build.

At first I was disappointed that the color wasn't the white of Death's horse in the Discworld books but after seeing the results...HoooLeeee Shiiiit !!!! I get the feeling that this is one of those objects (not just cars) that you get more appreciative of the skill and workmanship the closer that you look at it. Simply amazing.
I was disappointed when you revealed “Olde English White” but, bloody hell, that came out beautifully, and a great choice of colour in the end, fantastic pearls too, great job indeed 👍🏻

The car is called 'Binky'. Anyone who knows the origin of that name would understand - white was the only colour it was ever going to be, otherwise a /lot/ of Discworld fans would be very annoyed.

The show is so much better than any youtube "build" show where they mostly slap on a bunch of parts with no applied engineering.

I work in a automotive paint shop.... once your in the said Rabbit Hole.... there's no way out because its like a whirlpool sucking you down deeper and deeper till you drown in the rainbow

I remember when all this started I was young and carefree, now inthe care home watching on my great grandsons laptop computer, my jaw dropped at the wonderful paint job, the nurse wiped away the slobber and I told the story how it all began. They said, "I hope you live to see it finally finished" well we will see 😁

The logo is a thing of beauty bravo I knew it wasn’t going to be “just white”
white is possibly the most disappointing colour imaginable, except maybe for black. ive had a few white cars and without question, they always look nicer in a different colour. I cant think of a single car ever made where white is the most flettering colour. Not one.
@@simonlloyd7557 Yeah but there's history in the name. It's named after Death's horse in the Discworld novels. It would be wrong for it to be any colour other than white while keeping the name "Binky"
@@simonlloyd7557 Wheels make a bigger difference on a white car tho. I built a white clubman GT up from scratch decades ago and with gold 13" minilites it turned a lot of heads. I don't own it now, but I've seen recent pics, and it still looks mint 👍

As each episode gets uploaded, I'm downloading them to put together as one giant video. Im at 12 hours so far and thats just about 13-14 episodes. The only way i'll get to fit it on a Blu-Ray disc, is if I use a BD-MXL disc so that I can burn it to a single disc without needing to split it into two.
Now just to build 2 more, a red one and a blue one 😂 you can then paint escargot red and blue and go for a drive up the mountains.
i've never been this invested in a car build, this is genuinely amazing, the bom logos in the pearl paint are absolutely gorgeous

I still cannot believe its been this many years! I was 13 when I saw the first episode at 21 now I can say how time does fly... This series has wrapped me in dry humor and inspired many of my own building of brackets. Thank you for the years of quality, and perseverance. May binky never truly be more car than bracket.

I can still remember fondly the early episodes forty years ago that were in black and white, awesome that now it’s painted we have colour and hi def cameras so we can truely appreciate the paint job on this mark one mini, which if you include the labour of two amazing engineers, probably cost as much as a Veyron. Jesus I hope they don’t wrap it around a tree!

I wanted to see it! I was guessing something along the lines of masking one out, roughing up the black for the union jack and then putting clear over the lot. Pearl is a much better idea and a masterful way of embedding their makers mark! Well done guys

I used to buy automotive paint for one of the big OEM's, and whilst watching this I was just speechless. OMG that's an awesome, and difficult paintjob, and done to a really high level as well. The roof alone is about 5x as many coats of paint as most cars get new, more like you'd find on a super luxury car like a Rolls! Good work gents, and Tony! Bet that added a few kg though...

I'm suspecting some considerable amount of time will go into reshaping all the mounting holes in a way that they keep their protection against tin worm (they are filled with paint right now).
Then there's the interior, if you look at the amount of detail they put into the paintjob and the fact this is purposed to be a driver and funrally car, I don't think they'll stick with what was there (or left of what was there) and will be applying a crapload of fresh intererior, from matting to possibly some sound deafening rubber coat?
There's so many things they can still do.
@@enlightendbel a 'sound deafening rubber coat' is a most intriguing prospect. I can hear a resounding cackle in the distance....
Sound and vibration dampening, maybe firewall insulation and some heat isolation between the exhaust and rear seats, carpeting, a new dashboard, seat upholstery, a cover for the battery, electric panel and ECM, fire extinguisher mounts and a lot of small details like emblems and seam trims on the outside, handbrake handle, gearshift lever knob, grab handles, etc.
