    I definitely like that you don’t need specific boots. I’d try these over the burtons.

      @goodridevibes Год назад +8

      Maybe… I agree having to buy a specific boot isn’t ideal, but Burton’s overall system is really clean and responsive…
      The flow system sucks… never can get the binding the right amount of tight while still being able to get in and out… this looks like an improvement over that… but if I can’t step in while moving like I can with step ons… then I would rather just have a nice pair of Unions or Cartels

    Great binding. Love how they ride and how quickly you can set off at a lift. Great in powder and on the slopes. Easy to put on. Always used the step-on but it’s nice to have the traditional way of strapping too if needed. … the envious looks of other boarders are priceless and come on top. 😂

    I am riding these this year. They have been smooth sailing, even in POW. I haven't needed to use them with the traditional front entry at all. I got close, in deep powder I could not quite put enough pressure on my heal to get it to lock and I almost had to u.steap and go with the front entry, but I ended up getting it clicked in no prob. I am definitely the fastest from chair to off and riding, no sitting for me anymore.

    Just got back from Tignes France, me on step on, best buddy on supermatics, nothing in them, the step on are superb, fast in and out, we boarded powder, groomers, ice, moguls....perfect. One comment my buddy made was he felt a little more flex over his previous standard burton bindings but he would soon get used to the feel. You need a week or two to get used to them, both are different to standard bindings, once you are retrained to how they are you don't notice any difference at all.
    we were both wearing the same Burton boot also...my obviously the step on version.

    I have used burtons step ons for last few years and got a pair of these right at start of season. I think they are fine if you really want the binding feel and mostly just freeride around the mountain. Burtons are easier to get in and out of but do feel a bit different then traditional bindings and your boots choices are limited (and boots breakdown faster since all stress is on the boot).
    My issue with the nidecker is 1) heavy, if you take any jumps in them just feels heavy on feet and not so soft on the landing 2) can be annoying to get out of sometimes. IE. If you have wet heavy snow it will build up under latch and you hav to get it all off before you can get out. 3) not a lot of adjustments can be made to bindings besides straps so better work for you the way it came. Biggest tip, maybe sure you want the step up video, got to get those steps setup just right. Anyway first gen, probably make some improvements on it in next year or two. Not quite perfect but a good first start.

    I used a demo pair last year for the season in Australia.. my only issue with the supermatics was the release lever was a bit small and ended up hyper extending my middle finger which took a few months to recover from. It might just be me... Super easy to get into and out of.. granted I'll be waiting for the next gen before I buy them. I've been riding Flow NX2s for years and these things are way more responsive and i would say even easier to get in and out of.. Only hassle was at the end of the day and getting a bit lazy i did take off a few times without the heal locking in but sorted that with making sure i stomped but before taking off.. With the 1 to 3 click system is great but alot of the time on snow you dont hear the clicking like you do at set up..
    Mate owns a boardshop here and has seen the next generation ones which as he puts it are heaps sexier.. once they iron out a few things.. ps. I was using as K2 size 11 boot which is a bit on the large size for the binding and will be waiting for the next size up to get released before purchasing these.. I'll be in Canada in a weeks time and will be using them there to see how they preform again...
    That my review on these hope you enjoy these.. as you get a bit older I'm all for easy.. first day out 2 mates saw me get into these and were sold on the idea instantly as I'm already off down the hill with them still strapping in..

    Ok so after 3 months on these can say they need some learning curve. First, you need to adjust boots properly so they go in and out easily. Too tight it's hard to out in and out. Pushing down on the lever can sometimes be a bit of a workout so practice it a bunch of times. They sent me some Loctite to make sure the screws didn't loosen maybe an issue I haven't had yet? over solid binding but a learning curve that it comes with so don't expect its easy, but Ive herd Burton is the same as far as learning too. I like that it fits any boot so that's good. Also have heard not for everyone, especially if you like a park rider but that's what I've seen online. Have fun doing a review after you've been on them for a bit for an honest assessment.

  • @oolong2
    @oolong2 Год назад +8

    It's definitely a nice system. The only downside in my experience coming from flow bindings, is that when the high back is tilted back it makes it *very easy* to catch on those lift line entry gates you need to slide through sometimes. Since your rear high back is angled forward it literally acts like a hook... If your board gets caught trying trying to get through it can be pretty embarrassing and even dangerous in the fray of getting on a lift so you have to be extra vigilant to make sure your high back is lifted up before going through a lift line if it has one of those gates.... Hopefully the Nidecker system has a bit of tension in the hinge to prevent the high back from dropping down once you put it up, especially after repeated use. The step on system doesn't have a high back that drops back, so it is better when it comes to that specific issue.

    • @zoltanpetrik897
      @zoltanpetrik897 Год назад

Forgetting to do that and getting snagged trying get on a lift is not fun... Also if the mechanism gets lose after awhile the high back could start fall back down again after you push it up. At least that's the way it was on my old Flow bindings after awhile. Although these might not have that problem since the high back is lighter, but it's just something to look out for that's all.

    • @Maahn
      @Maahn Год назад +1

      oooh yes you definitely need to remember to put the highback up on these when going through chairlift gates, especially narrower ones. I got mine caught on one last week and ended up absolutely eating shit on the moving runway. Luckily there was no one else on the lift at the time so I had the space to flop about like an idiot to get myself up in time to get on the chair. If it had been a busy lift it would have been a serious problem for everyone trying to board the same chair. The mechanism is pretty stiff in the highback positioning and the highback is pretty light, so it will be long term use I think before it falling back on its own is a risk thankfully.

    The one thing I don't like about the Supermatics is the weight. It's heavier by about 300 grams per foot (600 grams total). So when you're into 180's, 360's or twisting in the air or jumping, there's some weight and a bit more effort. Not to mention hanging your foot on the chair lift, if you are at the resort the whole day, you'll feel the weight of your board a bit more coz of the added weight. Otherwise, these are fantastic because you can use any boots. I am not a fan of Burton's boots. Their out of the box feel is one of the worst IMO. Thank god they allowed/licensed Step on boot manufacturing to others like DC and Nitro (those are the only 2 besides Burton that make the Step on boot interface atm).

    For me the best thing they have invented works wonderfully when it is squeezed between 95% to 97%, in cases that you want more security you can tighten 100% the only detail that you will have a little more difficult to enter the boot, but with a little practice you can get stuck in that pressure, Another detail found is that it tends to wear the boot in the front parts with the passage of time

    I’ve been riding for 39 years now and have seen the trends come and go from low highbacks, baseless, tall highbacks, and some of the first step-ins from Switch, Burton and K2 Clicker. While on a two week trip to Jackson Hole the K2 team was there during that time testing their new Clicker step-ins had to have been early ‘90’s.
    I’ve never tried step-ins never liked the fact that there wasn’t any straps going over my feet, and it’s just not that big of a deal to strap in. In the early days at Baker it wasn’t uncommon to buckle in while on the chair

    Edit/ just realized you still have to bend down to release it which I do now anyway but it's actually easier with my current bc the switch is higher on the top of the highback lol oh well

    This is kind of similar to the Flow system I used when starting out. It wasn't good... every time you put your legs in it would be different. And you had to tighten everything to much making it really uncomfortable for me with my unusually high instep. After that I got stiffer Burton boots with the cartel bindings... it was a revolution for me in terms of responsiveness and how well the boots fitted with the bindings. It improved my comfort level significantly even if moving from softer boots to much stiffer ones. If the system is good you don't have to tighten it like crazy to get a responsive feel. With that said I think this Supermatic system looks much better built than the Flow system used to be and it could really be much better. But to be honest I think the traditional snowboard binding system in general is quite stupid anyway... Using soft boots and choking your feet with several kinds of tightening systems is ridiculous, inefficient at performing the very thing they need to do and super annoying to mess around with in the snow. The new Burton step on system is the direction where things should be moving to. Ultimately I want a super stiff boot that is comfortable inside and binds directly to the board, like the alpine snowboard system but with a normal stance. (Free style and park riders might need the soft boot system.. but I don't, with a stiffer boot I can ride harder and longer)
