Dude, I liked your video. But the guitar is not the only reason I liked it. It was your charisma. Keep it this way, mate. The way you interact with us through your videos is very funny, cool and really interesting. You rock, literally.
Dave Simpson don't mention it, mate. Hey, do you know if I can put the same modifications from Kurt Cobain's sig guitar in a Squier VM Jaguar? I'm planning to buy one because Fender guitars are VERY expensive here in Brazil. I like to listen to Nevermind's and In Utero's original tunings and try to reproduce in my DiGiorgio Acoustic Guitar. PS: I'm very aware about the Jaguar's bad bridge thanks to your and fellow guitarists' information.
David Silva i agree, hes cool. I just subscribed. Hes a guitar player but he kind of has that ginger baker circa 1968 look.....hey, did i hear some Heep in there too. Im getting one of these Jags very soon
Great demo! You wrenched a ton of tones from that vicious Jag! From Alternative filth to the clean shimmers and trem bar twangs-They are under-rated tone tools that inspire a different mind space and instant ideas, cliche-busting, etc. Enjoy!
A lot of guitars claim to get multi-tones and many do- this Jaguar gets so diverse with its sound- it starts with 2 pickups that really do sound completely different from the get go the bridge pu sounds gainy and strong and the neck pu is very jangly and sparkles i guess and thats without any effects. Really cool axe.
Thanks, This is the only video that I have seen that properly demonstrates the hi-pass filter. As ever, your enthusiasm is contagious, keep rocking Dave.
I just bought one of these today. Same color and also 2012. Man, I am really excited now, after watching this! These guitars seem to be fetching higher prices lately on the used market. Perhaps due to the Rosewood fretboard and also Squier is now mostly making the Classic Vibe series Jags. Anyway, thanks for the awesome video! You’re a great player!
Doesn't matter what guitar/amp combo you choose, I notice that you gravitate to that really warm and very clean tone when you jam or noodle around in these vids. Totally rad.
Without a doubt one of the best demos on this guitar I have ever seen. If not the best. Humour, skill and great ability and diversity of playing to show off what this guitar can do. Excellent!! You are certainly right about the bridge though. But this is an easy fix with the Graphtec saddle barrel saddles that pop right in instead of changing the whole bridge out to the typical Mustang bridge mod.
Dave, just rewatching this video for the first time in ages. These short and sweet videos were one of the main reasons I and probably many people came across your channel, just look at the views it has. These type of videos with the sound and video quality you have now would be a killer combo, maybe something to consider. Anyway keep it up mate!
I have this guitar in surf green as well. The original bridge works fine, you just can't use light guage strings with it. I put on 11's and no rattles or slippage whatsoever.
This is a solid ass comment, a lot of the issue with Jag's/Jazzmasters is they were designed for 11's with a wound third string like the old days, with lighter strings all kinds of weird shit happens with the bridge and the tremolo. honestly the 11's feel pretty soft on there too so Just give that a go. 12's should be fine too for the super old 1yr ago comment
Loving that Hendrix-y stuff in the middle there... Great review! Sweet sounding guitar! Been drooling over the Classic Vibe Jags lately. I can't figure out if I like these better yet... The newer ones seem a little darker sounding or something. You have a terrific set up there. Might be getting more out of your instrument than some of the reviews I'm seeing.
Now I'm definitely getting one. I just couldn't decide on the white or the sunburst finish. Now I kinda like the surf green too lol. I think it would look rad with a tortoise pickguard.
Haabemaaster I was just in the same boat the other day. Ordered one in Olympic white and then rang up to change to sunburst but would love to get surf green with a tortoise pick guard!
I had a Fender Jaguar back in the 90s and absolutely loved it, I stupidly sold it to upgrade my gigging bass. I think I'll be putting one of these on my shopping list. it sounds awesome !
Sometimes it is required to do so. My stepdad once owned a Gibson Flying V (he used to be in a band during the late 80's.) and he had to sell that around 12 years ago. It sucks.
Dave, you are a prophet! :) Fender listened to you, now all the new Squier Classic Vibe Jaguars come with a Mustang-style bridge! :) I'm saving up to buy one of these, since I really love Jaguars (they remind me of the guy on your t-shirt) :D Very good video as always, greetings from Italy!
I have the olympic white and its and awesome guitar for the money, the tones are epic. Yes it does have its issues but still worth every dollar/ pound.
Hi Dave, always love watching your videos bud. Have you ever thought about making some lesson videos. I love the lick or whatever you were doing at the beginning of the this video. I wish I can play that.
Love the guitar and the presentation, but the Orange is a bit dark for me. I get a phase altering feel from them. I would have enjoyed a switch to the Fender amp as well. Currently in the running for next guitar.
That's exactly what I needed to confirm purchase. Great enthusiasm. I was still a little split between a jazzmaster and a jag but leaning towards the jag. Subed
I just got one used for $199 because a couple chips in paint a slight guitar tech scratch near nut ( very slight ) and it is perfect as I want to paint it "Jaguars " "green metallic" being a painter by trade it should come out nice , add the mustang bridge and Seymour's 1/4 pounders .The used cost gives me some room and I'm sure my old boss will mix me a pint a paint and sell me all materials I need and booth access . . Thanks for the review, it's nice seeing someone else was as excited about this guitar too . JB
He predicted it, the flagship squier jag is stock with mustang bridge now. I have this guitar in the video and it’s great. Got it as a gift. This guitar speaks! And yes it plays best with fat strings.
My son just bought one for his 16th birthday. He loves the guitar, but we noticed right away that the stock saddles suck. (Strings popping out of place and the set screws backing out while playing) We have ordered a Mastery bridge and will drop it in when it gets here in a few weeks.
+Cheyenne Coombs Thank you so very much. I'm happy to hear you like what I do. :) The guitar next to me is a customised strat with transparent amber finish on the body and neck. You can see it on the Orange TH30 video on my channel . Thank you very much again. :)
I recently got one (caveat, the upgrades have been made: new bridge and Pure Vintage 65 pickups) and I just can't believe how much I already love this guitar. I wanted one so badly for my son / me to gig with and I like it nearly as much as my 60th Anniversary JM. I'm not sure I'm going to be able to take it out of the studio. It's not creepy. I understand.
Always wanted a Jag. Kurt was my gateway into playing guitar. Might have a look at one of these when I've got enough guitar funds knocking about (and when I've managed to persuade the missus to allow me to get yet another guitar lol)
Hey Dave! Really tasteful playing here : ) I'm just wondering which strings gauge did you use on this Jaguar? I've noticed that it tuned even half tone down if I didn't mistake. It's interesting why did you use such tuning with short scale? Mine Mustang have soft tension even with 11s
Thank you very much. :) I use gauge 10s - 46s on my Jag. And you are right about the 1/2 step down tuned. When i play live with my band i play half step down. That why its tuned that way. :)
Fun review, dude, love your channel! What kind of strings do you recommend for these? I tried one in the store with 9s on and it felt like playing loose rubber bands! I'm used to 11s on a 25.5" scale.
Hey man! What do you think about the playability of this beauty on a concert? I am asking this regarding to the strange pickup switch - and other - buttons. John Frusciante used this guitar a lot back in the days but I think mostly in studio, he rather used his strats on stage.
Hi Dave, just checked out this vid as I'm buying one soon. What is the awesome riff you play 2:35 into the vid? Is it your song? Who's it by? I need this song in my life! If it's yours, please put a tutorial vid up and show me how to play it. Cheers!
Hi there. The song is something i just came up with on the spot. Its something in the style of John Frusciante and Jimi Hendrix. I shall indeed work on a video for you and get it up as soon as i can. Have fun with your Jag when you get it. There awesome and i couldn;t be with out mine. :)
Hi excellent review - I was thinking of getting a squire jaguar. I was thinking the classic vibes version - have you tried the classic vibes jag - if so what’s are your thoughts Between the vintage modified and classic vibes ???
Said it once and will say it again : for the money, you will NOT beat what Squier did with this series! I have both the jazzmaster and jaguar. Mustang bridges a must? Agreed! Great demo!
I read that the original jaguar bridges were designed for flatwound 11 gauge strings. And hence the treble enhancing circuit was introduced to add "sparkle" to the darker sound of these heavy flatwound strings. So, it appears this was all intentional as higher string tension and smoothness of the said strings secures original bridge in its position. Has anyone tried to apply these changes and see any improvement?
Hi dave great vid .on another subject i have a tokai strat from the 80s could you recommend a make of bridge to replace with (on a budget ) your playing is awersome jedi master!
Couple questions: What're the set-up specs on your jaguar? Bridge/neck pup height? String action height @ what fret? Also any idea where I can get a replacement tremolo arm? Please and thanks Dave
Dave have you had the chance to check out the 2019 Squier Classic Vibe '70s Jaguar? From what I can tell it's almost identical to the Squire Vintage Modified Jaguar. The noticeable differences being the new CV Jag comes with a 9.5 inch radius mustang bridge, Indian laurel fretboard w/block inlays, Fender Designed Alnico Single-Coil pickups…
awesome as always, Dave! I have one quoestion: is it really necessary to use .11 gauge strings on jaguar. On my strat I play .9 gauge strings, and I am thinking about bying this model and replacing it with mustang bridge, but I am worried about the string gauge, because I could get used to playing .10s but not .11 gauge set.
+kurtcobainsk8dudu I used the dirty channel of the CR120 for distortion. I would recommend you go for one of these without a doubt. They really are just as good as the Fender equivalent.
+kurtcobainsk8dudu I just picked up this same Jaguar this week. I wanted the Johnny Marr model, but I can't justify the $1700+ US price tag for my skill level!
Hi,I want to ask some questions to you. the mustang bridge solve all the buzz and the usually Fender Jag bridge problems? What about the action of this guitar,I heard that with the mustang bridge you can't adjust the high of the settles so you can't set up the action as you really want. One last thing the mustang bridge fits without problems with the guitar?I read that the radius of the bridge is different with the radius of the neck.I love Jaguar sound and aspect and for economical reasons this is the only good guitar I can afford but I've got some doubts about the bridge...Anyway you are a fantastic guitar player !! keep rock !! 😎😎
+Alessio Pirolo Thats true. On the mustang bridge you can't alter individual saddle height. The mustang bridge I put in my Jag fit perfectly so I haven't had any issues like that. I have recently actually got rid of the mustang bridge and gone back to the original as i have found a way to keep the original bridge stable. I shall be doing video on how to do that very soon. Thank you very much for watching. :)
I am new to guitars .. i want a squier jaguar. But it seems they need a lot of work when you take them home.. and i dont know nothingabout setting up a guitar .. The costs in the store for setup are pretty high ..

***** thanks mate,a video on that would be mega !!!
+Dave Simpson hey mate, any news about the video for the squier jaguar bridge ??
I am new to guitars .. i want a squier jaguar. But it seems they need a lot of work when you take them home.. and i dont know nothingabout setting up a guitar .. The costs in the store for setup are pretty high ..
I have a video on how to setup a jaguar, but your right. There a bit of work to sort out.
