    The move that really upsets Scandinavian defence players is 2.d4 - Transposing into the Blackmar-Diemer gambit... Which is not really what they signed up for

    As a 1200 elo gamer (not too far from yourself northernlion) very few people at this level actually have any opening prep at all. I literally just say 'I play the caro kann' and after c6 d5 i make it up from there.

    This was the first time in like 10 ~ 15 videos that he actually got yotubed (the halloween gambit) and then just gave back the piece and got a ok position. Most of the times he thinks is getting youtubed is just the guy playing a bit strange

    8:16 I get the sentiment - it feels unfair that memorisation can beat intelligence. But as long as you don't fall for the same opening trap twice, you'll be growing. You can also try longer time controls to avoid the trappy pre-learned nature of 3 minute chess. The youtubers are not ruining the game, they are enlarging and educating the playerbase.

    First game, rather than pushing b3, push c3. Blocks knight from getting to a dangerous square and the Queen doesn’t get your rook.

    A way to avoid the Scandinavian without learning theory is to play 2. d3. You trade pawns then queens and it's an equal game without the Scandi structure

    I understand the hatred of the Scandinavian.
    Any opening where the opponent takes a cheesy fast development and counts on their opponent not knowing opening prep annoys me, but it is what it is.
